Lesson Topic: CONVERSION OF DECIMAL PLACE VALUE


Objectives:
1. Students will explore decimal points value
2. Read and write decimals using tenths, hundredths, and thousandths
3. Convert the given numbers to the nearest tenths, hundredths, and thousandths.

Materials: Place value charts and Visual aid


Procedure:
Starter/Motivation
Introduce key vocabulary of decimal, decimal point, tenths place, hundredths place. And divide the
students into small group using place value charts and have them write or tell each other their own
answers that they've written.

Lesson Proper
Direct Instruction
1. Introduce the key vocabulary of decimal, decimal point, tenths place, hundredths
place.
2. Display the visual aids in front of the class.

3. Explain or discuss the ways to read and write this decimal.


 The whole and decimal part are separated by a dot (.) known as decimal point. The decimal
point separates the whole number part on the left side and decimal part or fractional part on
the right part.
 The places on the left side or whole number part begin with ones, followed by tens, then
hundreds, followed by thousands and so forth.
 The places on the right or fractional part begin with tenths, followed by hundredths, then
thousandths and so forth.
4. Have a second student come to the front and let students answer the given
questions and assist them in terms of their difficulties.

1.) Give additional exercises for the pupils to work on related to the given topic
2.) Call on volunteers to show the answers. Discuss the answers

B.) Round the a given number of 34.03458 to the nearest hundredths.
C.) Round the given number of 23.12340 to the nearest thousandths.

D.) Explain briefly.

Homework
Assign each students to answer completely and explain the given decimal place value. By answering
just order decimals in tenths, hundredths, thousandths place and use this skill to solve basic number
problems.

COOPERATIVE LEARNING and IMPARTING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

Ask students to answer independently and pupil should have his or her place value
notebook and pencil to write down the correct answer.

Value of a digit in a number is the value it holds to be at the place in the


number. Underline the digit in thousandths place.

Lesson Proper

1. Discuss in front of the class the proper rounding of a decimal place value. And help them
the correct way of converting the numbers and give them activities.

2. Ask the pupils to use a decimal place value chart to find the place values of the digits in a
decimal number. 

3. Let them convert place value of the digits 2 and 4 in the number 326.471

Answer: First, write the number in a decimal place value chart. Then, look at the place of
the digit and find its place value. The digit 2 is in the tens place. Therefore, its place value is 2 tens
or 20. The digit 4 is in the tenths place. Therefore, its place value is 4 tenths or 0.4.

4. After converting the given place values. Let the students share their individual answers in a
class. And ask them to compare and elaborate the tenths, hundredths, and thousandths
place.
