The Humanities

(An Introduction)
What
distinguishes
man from
other
creatures?
HU MANITIES
comes from a Latin word
humanus
which means ‘human,
cultured and refined’.
HU MANITIES
human beings have natural
human tendencies, can adopt
to environment, and have
norms.
HU MANITIES
human beings possess and
show qualities like
rationality, kindness, and
tenderness.
HU MANITIES
human beings possess
aspirations, sentiments,
and opinions.
HU MANITIES
human beings have the
ability to learn, reason,
and decide.
HU MANITIES
Academically, we refer to the
humanities as the study of arts – the
visual arts such as architecture,
painting, and sculpture; music; dance;
the theater or drama; and literature.
HU MANITIES
generally means branches of art –
areas in which human values and
individual expressiveness are
celebrated.
Humanities, being the
study of arts, have always
been concerned with the
importance of human
being- his feelings, and
how he expresses those
feelings.
The humanities
engage both the
intellectual and
intuitive,
emotional selves.
The Artistic
Process and
Levels of
Enjoyment
The Artistic Process
Artist interacts with an
experience or a subject.

The artist translates the interaction

into a medium.

The elements of the medium are used

to produce the finished work.
We are delighted in the
arts through our senses.

With the knowledge of how the

artistic process works, our
enjoyment can increase in two
levels:
1) Understanding 2) Feeling
We, as the artist’s
audience…

INTERACT with the work

of art – experience it.
Thus, we recreate what
is presented to us.
Artworks…

Reveal the culture which spoke

of the quality of life that would
lead spectators to understanding
(of self and others).
Artworks…

Mirror LIFE.
Thank you!
Hope to see you next
meeting!!!
