Pyp Year 3: Unit Informati N

The document provides information about a new PYP Year 3 unit of inquiry on the central idea that matter can be transformed and used for various purposes. The unit will focus on the properties of matter and factors that cause changes in states of matter. Students will conduct hands-on experiments to understand physical and chemical changes and how some changes are reversible while others are irreversible. They will also learn about sustainability and responsible use of matter. Key learning outcomes involve using scientific vocabulary, measuring properties of matter, and developing research and self-management skills.

CAUSATION
Students will have the opportunity to learn about the properties of matter and the factors that
attribute to the change in states of matter. They will be encouraged to undertake several

These activities will help develop their Thinking, Research and Self-management skills, and will provide
learners with the opportunity to participate and share their ideas. They will also be able to develop IB
learner profile attributes such as being Knowledgeable and Balanced throughout the unit.

HOW CAN PARENTS HELP?

 Assist your child as they explore the properties of different materials and experiment with them.
 Be available to discuss any questions that your child may have relating to their inquiry.
 Encourage your child to gain further understanding through research and reading.

Action is a key element of the Primary Years Programme. We are always looking to see how children take their learning and apply it
independently. During the course of inquiry, if you do notice any positive actions that the students may have taken as a result of inquiry,
kindly share these with us, so that we can post it on our Action Board within the classroom and keep as a part of your child's record.
