GUIDE 1

In finding the sum of the terms


of an arithmetic sequence given the first and last terms, the

formula is 𝑆𝑛 = 2(a1 + an) where Sn is the sum of nth term, a1 is the
first term and an is the last term, n is the number of terms.

Ahah! If we use the formula

S𝑛 = 2 (a1 + an) the first (a1)
and last term (an ) and the
number of terms (n) must be
given in the problem to find
the sum of the arithmetic
sequence.

Example: 1. a1 =2 a5 =10,
n=5
Find S5

S𝑛 = (a1 + an), Substitute the given

GENERALIZATION

In finding the sum of the terms of an arithmetic sequence is use the formula

𝑺𝒏= 2 (𝒂𝟏+𝒂𝒏), 𝑺𝒏 mean sum of nth term, a1 is the first term and an is the last
term, n is the number of terms.
