Narrative Report on Orientation on Random Drug Testing for SHS Students

I. INTRODUCTION

Relative to DepEd Order No. 40 S. 2017 which is a memorandum on the Guidelines on


the Conduct of Random Drug Testing in Public and Private Secondary Schools, the Juan R.
Liwag Memorial High School SHS conducted an orientation intended for all Senior High School
Students.

This activity was planned right after the orientation for all teachers of SHS conducted by
the Office of the Guidance Counselor of the Juan R. Liwag Memorial High School Junior High
School. The Student Discipline Coordinators led by Rocel B. Roxas and Lucio DC. Parcutela
handled the event.

II. OBJECTIVES

Specifically, the orientation aims to:

1. Give SHS students full understanding of the purpose of conducting Random Drug
Testing.
2. Promote the program of the government pursuant to Republic Act No. 9165 otherwise
known as Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs of 2002 which is to pursue intensive and
unrelenting campaign against the trafficking and use of dangerous drugs and other similar
substances.
3. Develop healthy learners in a safe, nurturing and healthy environment.

III. PARTICIPANTS

The said orientation was participated by all students of Senior High School of JRLMH
both from Grades 11 and 12. They were assisted by their respective class advisers.

IV. TRAINING OBSERVATIONS

The orientation was conducted on February 19, 2018 at the Umali Gym. It was held in
four batches so as to make the explanation clearer to all the students. The first batch was for the
STEM students, followed by the ABM, HUMSS, and TVL students. Each strand was allotted 30
minutes each. Orientation for the STEM started at 8:30 in the morning; ABM at 9:00; HUMSS
at 9:30 and TVL at 10:00 in the morning.
The orientation started with the definition of Random Drug Testing. It was made clear
that only selected students will undergo the drug testing. They will be selected an unbiased
method. Their names will be raffled with the presence of representatives from Parents,
Students, and Teachers, School Head, Coordinator from the Division of Office and Personnel
from the Department of Health. A total of 55 students will be selected on the spot. The
procedure on how the specimen will be submitted is explained. The selected students will fill-up
forms then will procede to the comfort rooms to get their urine samples. They will be assisted in
the comfort rooms by the DOH representatives. Their urine sample will then be submitted to the
assigned personnel who will also do the sealing of the bottles containing their urine sample.

It was also explained that if students are confirmed positive, proper intervention will be
given to them depending on the result of the screening. It was made clear that they will not be
punished by the law and will not be sent out of the school. They will just undergo different
rehabilitation programs.
