I. INTRODUCTION
The seminar about Child Protection policy was conducted on August 18, 2017 at Umali
Gym JRLMHS SHS Campus. This orientation/seminar followed the one conducted for the
faculty members
This is in compliance to the DepEd Order No. 40 S. 2012 which contains information and
guidance of all concerned of the Policy and Guidelines on Protecting Children in School from
Abuse, Violence, Exploitation, Discrimination, Bullying and Other Forms of Abuse
entitled "DepEd Child Protection Policy."
With the different forms of school violence happening around, this seminar aim to orient
the students on their rights, duties and responsibilities, and what are the consequences of their
actions against others. The Student Discipline Coordinators led by Rocel B. Roxas and Lucio
DC. Parcutela spearheaded the event.
II. OBJECTIVES
1. Orient the students of the policy and guidelines in protecting them from Violence,
Exploitation, Discrimination, Bullying, and other forms of Abuse known as “Deped
Child Protection Policy”,
2. Equip the students with enough knowledge about their rights to protection against any
form of abuses and violence in school.
3. Make the students understand the consequences of being the offending children in any
kind of abuses and violence.
4. Let the students understand their roles, duties, and responsibilities in the prevention of
abuses and violence in school.
III. PARTICIPANTS
The seminar was conducted on August 18, 2017 at Umali Gymnasium at JRLMHS SHS
campus. The program started at exactly 8:30 in the morning. It was emceed by Mr. Gio B.
Jimenez. It was opened with an invocation headed by Mr. Lucio DC Parcutela followed by the
singing of the Philippine National Anthem performed by the SHS choir. Mr. Jaime Macaso, the
Vice President of the Faculty and Staff Organization of JRLMHS SHS, delivered the opening
remarks.
First part was the Policy and Guidelines on Protecting Children in School from Abuse,
Violence, Exploitation, Discrimination, Bullying, and other forms of Abuse. It was presented
and discussed by Rocel B. Roxas. It included Discrimination Against Children, Child
Exploitation, Violence Against Children Committed in School, Bullying or Peer Abuse, Oher
Acts of Abuse by a Pupil, Student, or Learner, and Corporal Punishment. At the end of the
discussion, Positive and Non-Violent Discipline of Children was also explained to the students.
Along the discussions were some examples to give more emphasis and clearly understood by the
students.
Second part was presented and discussed by Mirachel B. Nuestro. She explained the
duties and responsibilities of all the people concerned, including the School Heads, School
Personnel of the schools, as well as the students. The students were also informed that there will
be a Child Protection Committee on School so that they will know where to seek for help in case
they need one. The president of the Student Government was included in that committee. The
HUMSS Grade 12D performed an intermission number showing an example of a Bullying Act in
the classroom.
Closing remarks was given by the Assistant Principal for Academics Mrs, Anicia M.
Cleofas. She further stressed that students have their duties and responsibilities and that they
should act accordingly. She elaborated that their teachers and other school personnel have the
rights to scold them if they are showing some misbehavior.
It was a success with the help of different committee members. The sound system was
operated by Mr. Luisito Trinidad and Phillip Flora while the Technical Assistance was arranged
by Mr. Dennis Bacani and Mr. Lucio Parcutela. Mr. Jaime Macaso assisted in the physical
arrangements of the venue. Mr. Robert DC Manuel and Mrs. Clarence Galang acted as
documenters.
