Evaluating Spoken Text : Spoken Word Poetry
Guidelines and Mechanics :
1. Composed an English spoken word poetry about any topic of your choice. Spoken word poetry is a
performance art that is based on words. It is meant to be spoken or delivered with emotion. It is an
oral art that is centered on the aesthetics of word play, rhythm, and provisions, rhyme, intonation and
voice inflection.
2. The performance which to be recorded should only last for 1 – 3 minutes. Deductions will be given if
the required time is not met or exceeded.
3. Although recorded, the spoken word poetry must be delivered from memory.
4. Sounds, instruments or musical background are allowed and encouraged to compliment the delivery.
5. 50% of the total points will be coming from the recorded performance of the spoken poetry, while the
remaining 50% will be coming from the evaluation of the spoken piece of one of his/her classmates.
6. The recorded performance will be judged based on these criteria. (Teacher’s Evaluation)
Content : 10 points
Delivery and Performance : 15 points
Convincing Aura : 10 points
Originality and Creativity : 10 points
Impact : 5 points
Total : 50 points

9. Submission of the recorded video is until December 14, 2020 while the submission
of the evaluation is until December 15, 2020. If you can submit both earlier than
the deadline it will be much better and much appreciated.
