RECREATION

- an activity that is intended for relaxation and enjoyment purposes

DIFFERENT TYPES:
 Active recreation - refers to activities in which you need to participate directly or you
are required to do the task
 Passive recreation - activities that require not much of your energy, or those that only
require you to observe

DIFFERENT MOTIVES:

 Socializing motive - includes company, like friendly visits, going out, and gathering with
other people.
 Associative motive - collective interest like reading, item collection, and othere
 Competitive motive - test the limits of the participants which could be his/her limitation
or competing against the environment
 Exploratory motive - involves level of exploration like hiking, diving, and other activities
that expose oneself to a new environment.

TWO CATEGORIES:
 Indoor recreation - covered area
 Outdoor recreation - carried out using the environment and the resource

Indoor recreation - activity that is normally done in a covered or closed area

Chess - a tactical board game that is played by two opposing players on a checkered board

DIFFERENT CHESS PIECES:

 The King - significant chess pieces; also considered as the weakest


 The Queen - it can move horizontally, vertically, and diagonally
 The Rook - can move horizontally and vertically if no chess piece is blocking
 The Bishop - that moves diagonally depending on the color where it placed on the board
 The Knight - composed two different steps; one step of one single square diagonal
 The Pawn - moves one step forward except for the first move if the player decides to
move it two adjacent squares forward

Castling - is a move when king and the rook change positions and occupy the adjacent
space between them.

Stalemate or Draw - term use in chess describing player’s king having no room to move in
any adjoining squares but not under opponent’s check

OUTDOOR RECREATION
- activity that is done in an open area or outside of an enclosed place

OUDOOR RECREATION ACTIVITIES:

 Hiking - involves walking a long distance usually done for pleasure or exercise.
 Camping - one has to spend a day or more living in a tent or camp, usually away from
home.
 Biking - requires special equipment like bicycle
 Orienteering - involving navigation skills like using a map and a compass to select
routes and navigate through sn unfamilliar tract or course.

ESSENTIAL GEARS IN HIKING:

Food, water, first-aid kit, flashlight, compass and map, raingear and clothes, matches or fire
starter, and insect repellent.

HEAVY ITEMS:
Water, stove, fuel, food, tent pole

MEDIUM ITEMS
Cooking utensils, some clothing, some foods, and tent body and fly

LIGHT ITEMS:
Sleeping bags, pods, rain and wind gear, bivy sack, bulky clothing.
