NOTE: As per EASA IR 21, a minor change is one that has no appreciable effect on the
mass, balance, structural strength, reliability, operational characteristics affecting
the airworthiness of the product. All other changes are major changes.
B. REASON
(1) History
In service experience shows that the shear plates in the area between Frame 69
and Frame 70 and between Stringer 23 and Stringer 24 Right Hand (RH) side are
susceptible to corrosion and subsequent fatigue cracking. In order to prevent the
possible corrosion damages and fatigue cracking, the shear plate should be replaced
by modified ones with higher corrosion resistance.
(2) Objective/Action
This Service Bulletin details the procedure to replace the aluminum shear plate
between Frame 69 and Frame 70 RH by two new parts, one remaining of the original
material, to maintain interface for electrical systems and the second part made from
titanium, maintaining the interface for the floor panels.
Prior to Service Bulletin accomplishment, specific attention must be paid to the
preparation, refer to paragraph 3.B Preparation.
NOTE: The Modification Service Bulletin Ref. SB A320-53-1466 is applicable to Left

Hand (LH) side.
(3) Advantages
The accomplishment of this Service Bulletin will increase the corrosion resistance of
the shear plate structure between Frame 69 and Frame 70 and between Stringer 23
and Stringer 24, RH side and reduce the maintenance cost.
(4) Operational/Maintenance Consequences
The Operational/Maintenance Consequences of this Service Bulletin are covered by
the update of the affected publications detailed in "PLANNING INFORMATION".

CONF 001 is applicable for all the aircraft affected by this Service Bulletin as a
standard configuration.

B. CONCURRENT REQUIREMENTS
None
C. REASON
(1) History
In service experience shows that the shear plates in the area between Frame 69
and Frame 70 and between Stringer 23 and Stringer 24 Right Hand (RH) side are
susceptible to corrosion and subsequent fatigue cracking. In order to prevent the
possible corrosion damages and fatigue cracking, the shear plate should be replaced
by modified ones with higher corrosion resistance.
(2) Objective/Action
This Service Bulletin details the procedure to replace the aluminum shear plate
between Frame 69 and Frame 70 RH by two new parts, one remaining of the original
material, to maintain interface for electrical systems and the second part made from
titanium, maintaining the interface for the floor panels.
Prior to Service Bulletin accomplishment, specific attention must be paid to the
preparation, refer to paragraph 3.B Preparation.
NOTE: The Modification Service Bulletin Ref. SB A320-53-1466 is applicable to Left

Hand (LH) side.
(3) Advantages
The accomplishment of this Service Bulletin will increase the corrosion resistance of
the shear plate structure between Frame 69 and Frame 70 and between Stringer 23
and Stringer 24, RH side and reduce the maintenance cost.
(4) Operational/Maintenance Consequences
The Operational/Maintenance Consequences of this Service Bulletin are covered by
the update of the affected publications detailed in "PLANNING INFORMATION".

D-check due to the removal of Floor panel covering, Floor panels, a Galley and/or a
Lavatory.

WIRING IN A SATISFACTORY CONDITION (ELECTRICALLY AND MECHANICALLY

NOTE: For the basic Aircraft configuration, refer to AMM Chapter “Introduction -
Aircraft status for maintenance" in Manual Front Matter section.
NOTE: This Service Bulletin is based on the aircraft configuration as known by

AIRBUS (first aircraft delivery configuration and modified by the reported
incorporation of AIRBUS Service Bulletins).
Prior to Service Bulletin accomplishment, specific attention must be paid to
structural damage which may exist and to repairs which were performed
on the area defined, refer to Ref. Fig. Location of the area to be Modified
between FR 69, FR 70 and STGR 23, STGR 24 RH Side, because they may be
affected by the Service Bulletin. If any repairs were performed and prevent
accomplishment of this Service Bulletin, contact AIRBUS Customer Services
Repair Engineering Support department for instructions on how to proceed.
AIRBUS disclaims any liability for the effect which the Service Bulletin may
have on repairs performed on the aircraft before accomplishment of the
Service Bulletin.
If the post Service Bulletin repair status is not covered by the SRM and
for repairs outside of the SRM covered by an RDAS issued by AIRBUS,
AIRBUS Customer Services Repair, Engineering Support department should
be contacted. Repair review will be done by AIRBUS at conditions of the
Customer Services Catalogue.
(a) Make sure that the aircraft is electrically grounded, refer to Ref. AMM Task 12-34-
24-869-002.
(b) Energize the ground service network, refer to Ref. AMM Task 24-42-00-861-001.
(c) Put an access platform in position at the aft passenger/crew Door 832.
(d) Open the aft passenger/crew Door 832 and Door 842, refer to Ref. AMM Task 52-
10-00-010-001.
(e) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits, refer to Ref. AMM Task 24-41-00-862-
002.
(f) Between Frame 68 and Frame 70 :

(i) Do a visual inspection of the structure parts between Frame 69, Frame 70 and
Stringer 23, Stringer 24 RH side for the corrosion and damage in accordance
with Ref. NTM 51-90-00.
1 Make sure that there is no sign of damage or corrosion.
2 If corrosion and/or damage is found, refer to Ref. SRM 51-11-11 for the
allowable damage of the structure or contact AIRBUS and follow their
instructions.
(j) Do a rotating probe test of the fastener holes in accordance with Ref. NTM 51-10-
01 and refer to Ref. Fig. Rotating Probe Test of the Fastener Holes between FR 69,
FR 70 and STGR 23, STGR 24 RH Side.
1 If any crack has been found, contact AIRBUS and follow their instructions.
2 If no crack found, install the strut and angle between FR69, FR70 and STGR
23, STGR 24, RH side, in accordance with Ref. Task A320-A-53-XX-1465-
01ZZZ-720Z-A.

6 Remove and Install fasteners in accordance with Ref. SRM 51-42-00.
7 For the cable tie application and tooling, refer to Ref. ESPM 20-33-44 and

8 Get fastener hole diameters and drill data in accordance with Ref. SRM 51-
44-00.
9 Apply sealant in accordance with Ref. SRM 51-24-00.

(c) Transfer drill the fastener holes from the aircraft structure to the new parts, refer

23, STGR 24 RH Side.
NOTE: Drill the holes with the same diameter as the existing hole in the aircraft
structure.
(d) Remove, refer to Ref. Fig. Installation of the Strut and Angle between FR 69, FR
70 and STGR 23, STGR 24 RH Side:

(e) Do the countersink from top side to the aircraft structure holes and strut

(f) Deburr all the holes in accordance with Ref. SRM 51-44-00.

(h) Between Frame 68 and Frame 70:
