FUNDAMENTALS OF

ORGANIZATION BEHAVIOR
HBO MODULE 1
BY PROF. JOJO PADOLINA
What is OB/HBO?
■ It is about human behavior.
■ Human behavior is about potential and expressed capacity
(mentally, physically, socially)
■ Trivia: Do you know that a recent study on human behavior
of people in social media done in the University of Madrid
reveals that there are four types of personality that are
apparent: optimistic, pessimistic, trusting, and envious. Of
the 4 types, which one do you think is more commonly
displayed among people?
■ Organization is a social unit of people that is
structured and managed to meet common goals or
objectives; an entity, a company, a corporation,
association, group
■ Organizational Behavior is the study of human
behavior in organizational settings, the interface
between human behavior and the organization, and
the organization itself.

How does human behavior affect the
Management Process?
PAVLOV’s Stimulus Response Theory

■ Analyzed the role of stimulus in eliciting a response/action

■ Experimented with a dog; but is universally credited to apply
to human behavior
■ We respond according to a stimulus.
■ Human response could be instinctive action; it could be
deliberate action/inaction
Employee Behavior vis-à-vis
Management
■ Stimulus often comes from the Management
■ Management roles will elicit response from employees thus
effecting their behavior.
■ Employee response becomes the stimulus for management
to respond back; and this becomes a cycle of actions and
counter-actions that form as basis of organization behavior.

information to others

settle disputes, conflict between parties such as
other managers or subordinates
■ Resources Allocator – decides who gets what; how
