Descriptive Essay about Mindanao

Write a descriptive essay (at least five paragraphs) about Mindanao.

In twenty-eight years of my existence, I live and grow in Mindanao. I never consider this place
as an amazing one or something magical. The place, situations and the people aren’t perfect at
all. There are bad happenings but all places do have, right? It’s normal place like others where
people work and eat to continue life. It’s called “Land of Promise” because of its rich
biodiversity and natural resources.
This place is misjudged and misunderstood by people who never live here. They say, Mindanao
is associated with violence. Well, try to live here before saying anything and we’re good. It is so
sad to know that we haven’t moved on from the effects of colonialism. Filipinos spread humors
to even other countries about how Spaniards labeled Mindanao as a place of savagery and
violence. Thank you, kababayans. This is our problem; we discriminate our own people and own
land. I was not saying that I love and idolize this place because I live here. Can’t we just live by
defending each other instead of having this crab mentality? That would be so much great.
I live in mountainous part of region 9, in Zamboanga Sibugay. Mountains are incredibly high
here. Filipino foods are great. There are beautiful tourist spots to visit. We have beaches, falls,
lakes, and Islands here. Though, I have only visited few of these spots but rest assured that you
will enjoy your visit here. Most of the spots here are not developed and untouched. You do
need to pay thousands to fulfill your dream vacations.
Many Filipinos are not familiar of the province of Zamboanga Sibugay. The province was
officially carved out from Zamboanga del Sur just last 2001, the 79th of the 81 provinces of the
Philippines. More so, its tourist destinations dotting the new province proves promising.
Zamboanga Sibugay has many destinations to offer to all categories of tourists.
Malangas is one of the coastal municipalities of the province located at its southwestern flank.
Facing the smaller Dumangquilas Bay, the town is endowed with a smaller group of islands
featuring white-sand beaches. Malangas offers an island-hopping activity that you can enjoy for
a day.
And also, we still haven’t forgotten to cook Filipino foods here even if there is no special
occasion. The people who live in mountains are still embracing our Filipino traditions and
cultures. I can say that this place is not perfect but a comfortable one to inhabit.
