Types of Headline
1. Banner Headline
The title of a story in a newspaper that a large newspaper headline, especially one across the top
of the front page. It is a large newspaper headline, especially one across the top of the front page.

2. Flushed Headline
This is one of the more modern headline forms in use. It consists of two or three lines of headline,
each one set flush left to the left side of the space. The design is simple and allows freedom in
writing the headline.
3. Cross line headline
The cross-line headline is one of the simplest types of headlines, consisting of a single line and
one or most often more columns in width. It can run flush on both sides of the paper or it can have
the words centered over the columns.

4. Kicker headline
The shoulder or kicker can be defined as the headline that is placed on top of the main headline.
Its purpose is to supplement the main headline.
5. Hammer headline
A larger headline above a smaller main headline; it uses just a few words in a larger font size.

6. Inverted pyramid headline


The inverted pyramid headline generally consists of three lines – the first runs across the column
and the other two lines are shorter than the first line. The headline is created from the informative
facts presented at the start of the story, giving the reader the most important points quickly.
7. Direct Headline
Direct headlines are (surprise!) direct. They state the selling proposition upfront. They don’t
dance around the subject.
8. Indirect Headline
Indirect headlines are meant to arouse curiosity. They raise questions that are answered in the
body copy or on the landing page.

9. Question Headline
It is a headline with a question mark at the end.
10. Quotation headline
The headline includes the title of a song, short story or a quotation, you would use single
quotation marks.
11. Mysterious Headline
A mysterious headline is extremely important to bring the reader in to view an article,
advertisement, or social media post. It can even be a good idea to include a mysterious headline
on your resume or social media profiles. A headline should be carefully worded to catch someone's
eye and get that person interested in reading what follows the headline.
12. Side Saddle head
Sidesaddles are headlines that are placed beside the story instead of above the story.

13. Feature headline


Feature headline is used to identify the focus of feature.
14. Variant headline
A label used for regular or recurring content, such as sports and film review columns. It does not
change from issue to issue. E.g.: film review. Example:
