Answer
This Redundancy Quick Start checklist is not meant to replace the ControlLogix Redundancy System User
Manual, but to supplement it with general guidelines on how to successfully bring a redundancy system online.

Hardware
The ControlLogix Redundancy System consists of one pair of identical chassis and associated hardware, each
comprised of:

1 1756-Ax Chassis
1 1756-Px Power Supply
1 to 2 1756-L55Mxx or 1 - 1756-L6x Processor ( V15.57)
1 - 1757-SRM Redundancy Module
1 to 3 1756-CNB(R)/D/E ControlNet Communication modules ( V15.57) or
1 to 7 1756-CNB(R)/D/E ControlNet Communication modules ( V15.60) *
1 to 2 Optional 1756-ENBT or 1756-EWEB Ethernet Communications Modules. ( V15.57)
* No I/O or other modules permitted in local chassis.

* In version 15.60 redundancy, there can be up to 7 communication modules (such as

1756-CNB, 1756-ENBT, 1756-EWEB) in any combination.

Hardware Placement

The 1756-Ax chassis MUST be the same size.

The 1756-L55Mxx/1756-L6x, 1757-SRM, 1756-CNB(R)/D/E and 1756-ENBT/1756-EWEB
MUST be located in the same slot in each chassis.

Identical Hardware
The 1756-L55Mxx/1756-L6x, 1757-SRM, 1756-CNB(R)/D/E and 1756-ENBT/1756-EWEB pairs MUST have the same
Model, Series and Firmware Revision levels.

Firmware Updated

Insure that the firmware for ALL modules is at the latest for the Redundancy version
being implemented, V11, V13 or V15. The latest revision kits and associated Release Notes

V13 or V15 Release Note &Firmware Kit.

ControlNet Set-Up

There MUST be at least 2 remote ControlNet nodes in addition to local CNBs.

The CNBs in both redundancy chassis MUST be set to the same node number.
The redundancy CNB node number plus 1 MUST be reserved.
DO NOT use the lowest node numbers for the redundancy chassis CNBs.

EtherNet Set-Up (optional)

You MUST set each pair of Ethernet/IP modules to the same IP address (i.e. 10.10.10.10)
You MUST reserve the next IP address (i.e. 10.10.10.11) Ethernet/IP modules may not be
used to control I/O.

1757-SRM Redundancy Module Set-Up

Redundancy modules connected by 1757-SRCx cable.

RSLogix5000 Project Configured

On the Controller Properties Redundancy Tab ensure that the Redundancy Enabled check
box is checked.

Power Up Check
. Power up one of the redundancy chassis (1-3 minutes).
. Check all of the module health LEDs.
. The 1757-SRM module should display PRIM.
. Check the CNB module display for the node address.
. Check the Ethernet/IP module display for the Ethernet IP address.
. Power down that chassis and power up the other, repeating the process.

Synchronization Check

With one redundancy chassis powered up and the 1757-SRM displaying PRIM, power up
the partner (secondary) chassis (1-3 minutes). The secondary chassis should display
SYNC. The system is synchronized.

Synchronization Troubleshooting

Make sure that the Auto-Synchronization option of the 1757-SRM is set to Always. (See
Chapter 4. of the User Manual.) If the secondary does not SYNC, then observe the
secondary CNB display:

!CPT CNB Mismatch - See 3 above or

CNB Keeper Signature needs updating CMPT Mismatch of another module pair. See 3 above
DUPL NODE CNB node addresses not setup properly. See 5 above or
1757-SRCx is not connected or defective. NET ERR ControlNet media error.

Ensure all ControlNet taps, connections, connectors and terminators are installed.

Switchover

With a PRIM redundancy chassis and a secondary chassis in SYNC, shut off power to the
primary chassis. The secondary chassis should become the PRIM chassis. The CNBs in
the Primary chassis should display PwDS (Primary with Disqualified Secondary). Turn
power back on the new secondary chassis. The CNBs in the new primary chassis will
follow this sequence: PwNS > PwDS > PwOg > PwQs (no secondary > disqualified
secondary > synchronizing secondary > qualified secondary After a few minutes, the
secondary SRM should display SYNC and the CNB modules should display PwQS (Primary
with Qualified Secondary).

Switchover Troubleshooting
If, after initiating a switchover, the primary 1756-CNB modules do not display PwQS:

If the secondary CNBs display PwNS (Primary with No Secondary) then check
secondary chassis power.
Power = Check for Red led secondary comms module > Cycle power;
Replace and check 1757-SRCx cable.
No power = Restore power
If the secondary CNBs do not display PwNS (Primary with No Secondary) then
check secondary chassis:
SRM = Green OK
Secondary PLC Flashing Red OK = Clear Major Fault
Secondary PLC Solid Red OK = Cycle power > Replace PLC
Secondary CNB NET ERR = Check ControlNet media
SRM - Red OK = Cycle power > Contact Tech Support
