Q2 Problems March 8, 2021

This document contains 6 problems related to calculating voltages, currents, turns, and other properties of single-phase transformers. Problem 1 asks to calculate primary and secondary voltages given flux and turn values. Problem 2 asks to calculate amp-turns and currents for a rated transformer. Problem 3 asks to calculate current in the high voltage winding given load current and turn ratio. Problem 4 asks to calculate primary and secondary turns given a turn ratio and additional primary turns. Problem 5 asks to calculate primary and secondary voltages given core properties and turns. Q2 Problems March 8, 2021

Problem 1. The maximum flux in core of a 60-cycle single-phase transformer that has 1,320 primary turns and 46 turns
in the secondary is 3.76 x 108 maxwells.Calculate the primary and secondary induced voltages.

Problem 2. A single-phase transformer is rated at 500 KVA, 60-hz, and 2400 / 480 V. There are 200 turnson
the 2400-v winding. When the transformer supplies rated, find : a) amp-turns of each winding
and b) the current in each winding .
Problem 3. The low voltage winding of a step-down welding transformer has one turn and the high-voltage
winding 600 turns. When the transformer delicers 100 A, what is the current in the high voltage
winding ?

Problem 4 . A certain transformer has a ratio of 8 : 1 . The primary winding resistance is 0.00283 ohm per
Turn and has 1155 turns more than the secondary winding. Calculate the number of turns in the
primary and secondary .
Problem 5. The net cross-section of the core of a 60-cycle single-phase transformer is 20 sq.inches. The
maximum flux density in the core is 50,000 lines or maxwells per sq. inch. If there are 900 turns
in the primary and 90 turns in the secondary, determine the rated voltage of the primary and
secondary.

Problem 6. A transformer was tested under load and was found to deliver 62 Amps at 228 V when the primary current
was measured at 3.2 A Calculate the primary input voltage and the ratio of transformation.
