REFLECTION PAPER ON COACHING SESSION CONDUCTED BY BUSINESS COACH JUNNELL E. GUIA

Question a) What are your realization on the coaching process?

b) What business coaching style will you adopt now that you have observed the session?

Why?

The coaching process is quite a daunting task for any coach. It poses a big challenge for any coach to
handle a coachee. It creates the question of how will we be able to handle our participants in a way that
they will be encouraged to become better out of such experience?

As in the case of Coach Junnell he has to coach several OFW participants (at least twelve) at the same
time in one coaching session with a limited time which is a one-hour session and in a virtual platform to
tackle the respective proposals written in a Business Model Canvass of OFW participants applying for
livelihood assistance. He is a competent business coach and is qualified to perform under this scenario.
With limited time and opportunity to know more about the participants, He was able to allocate time to
present the necessary topics for discussion resourcefully. He introduced himself politely to the
participants and offered the opportunity for participants to introduce themselves and state their
respective proposals and participate. He let the participants know what to expect in terms of important
matters to be taken up by outlining the topics so that the participants can level up. He was also clear of
the objective for the OFW participants to accomplish a proposal written in a Business Model Canvass
that has a high chance of being approved by evaluators so that they can avail of the livelihood
assistance. He was empathic enough to listen to the participants and courteous in his suggestion during
tackling the respective proposals of selected participants who himself studied beforehand. He was also
quite clear and polite to share his ideas and suggestions while presenting a sample Business Model
Canvass to make it more clearer and understandable for the participants to follow to improve more
their respective Business Model Canvass.

What coach Junnell showed during the coaching session demonstrated his competency as a business
coach, after introducing himself he focused his attention on the participants thus manifesting his roles as
a business coach he created a space for the participants to open up about themselves and their work
which is their proposal. He provided guidance and clarity relative to the BMC of the participants by
politely suggesting ways on how to improve on their prepared BMC and by letting them know he already
looked at them beforehand showing his interest and concern on the work they have done and
emphasizing the importance of having it approved after further improvement. He even tackled one
proposal and made it an example and tried to improve it by taking in detail the contents of the four
major components showing how to make it better in a clear, coherent, simple, and understandable way.
He also showed confidence in expressing his suggestions a good way to motivate and build the
confidence and trust of the participants to encourage them to improve more on their work.

What I saw was a challenge for me personally being someone envisioning also to be a Business Coach. I
also have my share of own experience in handling participants in business presentation sessions like the
Entrepreneurial Development Trainings for OFWs applying for livelihood assistance but during those
sessions, my approach was to present business concepts and impart business ideas based on the module
that I have prepared and share my knowledge, understanding of business and personal experience as
well. And I must admit I frequently acted much more as a trainer and not much as a business coach.
During those sessions, we have workshops for participants to participate as a group but I believe I
focused more on providing knowledge If I could than on coaching. There was not much time for me to
tackle proposals individually of OFW participants and browse in detail on their Business Plans/Business
Model Canvass during those sessions.

With what coach Junnell showed, and faced with the realities of the increasing relevance of online
business training to achieve my deliverables for OFW applicants of our programs in this present time of
never-ending threats of the pandemic, I have come to a realization that I have to improve on a certain
aspect of my training for OFWs. I have to emphasize more on business coaching for OFW applicants of
our livelihood programs. I have to focus more on the applicants' preparation of their business model
canvass, scrutinize it beforehand, and treat it not only as a tool for compliance but a model that shows
the applicant's logic of his/her business in a coherent, clear, and understandable way, a business model
canvass that can be feasible and viable in the actual practice of the proposed business.

I also have to put more premium to develop my coaching style. During the four-day OFW RISE business
coaching training, we were asked to answer questions from a link provided to get a result about our
tendencies and the result came out that according to my dominant tendency I am inclined more as
Questioner, and learned what it means to be one. Since this is my tendency I have to be aware of the
positive side of being a Questioner and have to be mindful of its downside for a tendency to influence
behavior. Envisioning myself to become a business coach despite being aware of my dominant tendency
is not enough, I believe I still have to be adaptable in handling participants since it's a fact that the
participants also have their respective tendencies. I have to bring the best in the participants by letting
them participate and show what they have and how they can contribute. It's about building confidence
in themselves and treating them fairly.
