The Complete Alphabet
Some Notes:
 Arabic is written from right to left.

There are 29 letters in the Arabic alphabet.

 All 29 letters should be considered as consonants (vowels are not part of the alphabet, these
will be covered in a later class).

 Not all Arabic letters have an equivalent-sounding English letter and not all English letters have
an equivalent-sounding Arabic letter.

HAA HAA

Pronounced like the English letter H Pronounced with an exhalation of air


from the middle of the throat.
Think – laughing “Ha Ha Ha”
Think – sighing in frustration
Easily Confused Letters – ‫ ص‬/ ‫س‬

SAAD SEEN

Pronounced like the English letter S Pronounced like the English letter S
but rounded
Think – “I’ve seen the lions at the zoo
Think – “I saw the lions at the zoo before”
today”

TAA TAA

Pronounced like the English letter T Pronounced like the English letter T
