The document discusses three properties of integers: 1) if a divides b and a divides c, then a divides b + c, 2) if a divides b, then a divides bc for any integer c, and 3) if a divides b and b divides c, then a divides c.

Section: V8

Let a, b, and c be integers, where a!=0. Then

(1) if a|b and a|c, then a|(b + c)

Using by direct proof:

a|b & a|c

b=a×c1 & c=a×c2

b+c=(a×c1) +(a×c2)

b+c=a(c1×c2) [ m=c1×c2]

b+c=a×m

a|b+c Hence proved

(2) if a|b, then a|bc for all integers c

Solve with direct proof:

a|b

b=a×c1

Multiplying both sides by c

bc=a×c1 c [c1 c=h]

bc=a×h

a|bc Hence proved

(3) if a|b and b|c, then a|c

Solve with direct proof:

a|b & b|c

b=a×c1 & c=b×c2

As we know
c=b×c2

c=a×c1 c2 [c1 c2=k]

c=a×k
a|c Hence proved
