Introduction
Thank you for choosing to install MotiveWave™. MotiveWave™ is an advanced yet easy to use
analysis and trading platform intended for market analysts and professional traders.

For information on recent updates to the software, please consult the Release Notes.

For detailed information on how to install MotiveWave™ see our Installation Guide. For detailed
information on how to use MotiveWave™ see out User’s Guide.

System Requirements
The following are necessary for MotiveWave™ to function properly on your computer:
• MacOS X 10.10.5 (Yosemite) or higher, Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit) or higher
• Graphics Card with minimum 512MB memory
• 4 GB System Memory
• 1 GB Disk Space

Depending on your broker or data service you may need to install additional software in order for
MotiveWave™ to interact with your brokerage account. See Supported Brokers for details.

Installation - Windows
If you have not done so already, download the latest installation package from MotiveWave™
(www.motivewave.com). Run motivewave_setup.exe by double clicking on the icon in your
download folder.
Before installing the software you will need to check the System Requirements (see previous
section) and fully read/agree to the License Agreement shown on the second page of the installation
wizard.
Installation - Mac OS X
The following steps explain how to install MotiveWave on Mac OSX:
1. Download Disk Image (.dmg file) – MotiveWave is distributed as a disk image (.dmg) file
for the Mac. You can download the latest version from our website:
http://www.motivewave.com/download.htm
2. Open Disk Image – Double click on the disk image to open it.
3. Drag To Applications Folder – Drag the MotiveWave icon (MotiveWave.app) to the
Applications folder. This will copy the MotiveWave application onto your disk drive.
4. Open MotiveWave – Open the Applications Folder and double click on the MotiveWave
icon. Alternatively, click on the Launchpad icon on the launch tray and look for the
MotiveWave icon. When you have found it, click on it.
5. Startup Wizard – If this is your first time installing MotiveWave, you will be guided
through setup by the Startup Wizard.

License Key
A valid license key is required for MotiveWave™ to execute. When you signed up for the software
on the website, the system will have sent you an email containing a license key. MotiveWave™ will
ask you for this the first time it is executed. If your license key has been compromised, send an
email to [email protected] to get a new license key.

Creating a Workspace
When MotiveWave™ is first executed, you will be prompted to create a workspace. Workspaces are
used to manage brokerage accounts and/or data services. MotiveWave™ supports an unlimited
number of workspaces. All information associated with a workspace is stored on your computer in a
local database. This information includes:
• Connection Information – Information required to connect to your broker/data service
• Configuration Settings – All configuration settings
• Market Data – Market information downloaded from your broker, this includes detailed
information on specific instruments (stocks, futures, bonds etc) as well as chart data.
• Analysis Files – When you perform analysis on a security by adding comments, drawing
trend lines, identifying Elliot Waves etc, this information is saved in an Analysis File which
is stored in the local database.
• Trade History – Information regarding recent trades are stored locally so that they can be
displayed on charts via the ‘Show Trade History’ option.

In order to create a workspace you will need to enter the following:

• Workspace Name – This is used to identify the workspace. You can name the workspace
whatever you like, but you should choose a name that is easy to associate with your
brokerage account/data service.
• Service – Select your broker or data service from the drop down box.
• Connection Information – Depending on the service chosen, information specific to that
connection will need to be supplied. Defaults are provided where appropriate.
