6.2.3 WORK PROCEDURE

6.2.3.1 REMOVAL OF EXISTING DOOR
As described in the Method Statement for Dismantling Works for
the Doors and Frames:
 In dismantling doors, workers shall work in pairs. The doors will be
unscrewed from their fixings and carefully lowered to floor level
before being moved to a designated area.
 In dismantling door frames, all works to be carried out in a

 Prior to any site installation of Metal Doors & Frames,
site verification will be done in order to ensure the
readiness of wall for the installation.
 If site is not found ready for the installation of metal
frames, main contractor will be requested to expedite
the work of sub-contractors dealing with the walls and
partitions where doors are to be installed.
 After site verification approval, metal frames can be
installed accordingly.
 Number of installation crews will be determined by the
quantity of doors & frames to be installed and the time
span allocated.
 After checking all components for damage and
quantities, select correct frame member marking for the

Page | 17
Doc. Ref.: ARC-MST-P3-2021-01
METHOD STATEMENT Revision 00
Date 17 March 2021

appropriate opening reference, ensuring all

components are compatible.
 Erection and Installation of the frame should be carried
out according to the following instructions and
tolerances as per the shop drawings approved.
 Check that floor finishes are true and level within the
door arc, so as not to obstruct the opening.
 Where frames are to be installed into a cavity wall, the
cavity must be closed with material suitable to achieve
a secure frame anchorage.
 The construction of the structural opening must be
suitable for the performance of the door set.

6.2.3.2.2 Door Frame Installation

 Position the assembled door frame within opening by
means of bracing as detailed or similar.
 Shim under jambs in order to correctly position frame
against FFL or equalize on adjustable floor anchors
where specified.
 Using diagonal measurements ensure squareness and
using a sprit level ensure plumb alignment and twist
are within tolerances specified. Adjust as necessary.
 A temporary base spreader is supplied to ensure the
correct dimension between frame rebates, but in order
to prevent 'jamb bow' the contractors should provide a
2nd auxiliary spreader at the midpoint especially when
frames are 'built in' or backfilled.
 In the event of welded frame assemblies being
specified, these are supplied complete with temporary
metal ties in order to prevent shipping I transport
damage. If the frames finish at FFL these must be
removed at time of installation.

Page | 18
Doc. Ref.: ARC-MST-P3-2021-01
METHOD STATEMENT Revision 00
Date 17 March 2021

 According to the type of frame fixing (refer to details in

the drawings) required, refer to the relevant section for
correct procedure. Where a 2nd fix application is
required a shim is suggested to 'take up' gap between
frame and existing opening.

6.2.3.2.3 Existing Wall Openings

1. Brace, position and level the door frame within the
opening.
2. Drill appropriate holes through holes in frame.
3. Fit screw through front of the frame locating into back
plate.
4. Shim behind the frame ensuring the correct frame
width.
5. Slowly tighten machine screw and continually checking
plumb, square etc.
6. Fit the grommet provided.
7. Caulk between frame and wall before final handing
over.
8. In case of some fire rated frames; head members are
also screw fixed wherever specified.

6.2.3.2.4 Grouting
 Grouting can be done by filling the approved grout
material or approved PU foam on the back of the door
frames.
 Protection either by masking tape or polythene sheet
will be done other than the filling area (back of frame)
to avoid the rework of frame primer/painting finish for
overflow or leakage of the grout or PU foam.

6.2.3.2.5 Door Installation

Page | 19
Doc. Ref.: ARC-MST-P3-2021-01
METHOD STATEMENT Revision 00
Date 17 March 2021

 Door shall be installed and fastened to maintain

alignment with frames to achieve maximum operational
effectiveness and appearance.
 Door shall be adjusted to maintain perimeter
clearances as specified in the approved shop
drawings.
 Shimming shall be performed by the installer as
needed to assure the proper clearances are achieved.

6.2.3.2.6 Adjustments
Before the commencing with the finishing work which
may inhibit adjustment, installers shall:
1. Check that clear openings between jambs are constant
within ± 1 mm from top to bottom of opening at both
faces of frame (not moved or twisted in tightening).
2. Fit hardware to supplier's instructions and check for
correct operation and even leaf I frame gaps.
3. Note that in some instances, fixings supplied by
subcontractor will supersede ironmongery supplier's
fixings and/ or instructions. Adjust as necessary.

6.2.3.2.7 Protection of Completed Doors and Frames

 A clear polythene packing is provided as a protection
against scratches and minor damages at site.
 To minimize site damage, it is recommended by the
manufacturer to remove and store all door leaves and
re-fixing as late as possible.

6.2.3.2.8 Hardware / Ironmongeries Installation

 Assemble and fix carefully and accurately
ironmongeries using fastenings with matching finish
supplied by the lronmongery manufacturer.

Page | 20
Doc. Ref.: ARC-MST-P3-2021-01
METHOD STATEMENT Revision 00
Date 17 March 2021

 Prevent damage to ironmongery and adjacent

surfaces.
 Cut-outs in doors and frames are provided for all
mortise hardware and suitable threaded reinforcements
and fasteners supplied, hinge spacer plates will be
supplied loose for sit fitting if standard screw sizes do
not fit hinges as supplied.
 Surface applied hardware is not prepared for (i.e.
closers) due to the variation of fixing positions.
However, where required both doors and frames will be
locally reinforced.
 In conjunction with hardware schedule and Packing
Parts List, collect together all hardware and fasteners
required to opening reference.
 Before fitting hardware, carefully read manufacturers
fitting instructions and determine correct procedure and
position.
 Panic bars, bolts and lever handle spindles will need to
be cut to length to suit exact requirements.
 Finally check correct operation and lubricate if
necessary.

6.2.3.3 SITE FINISHING AND MAINTENANCE

6.2.3.3.1 Finishing
 After the installation of the door set, any site
painting/touch up should comply with the specification
of the finish in order to extend door set life and ensure
finished product.
 After installation and/or final decoration it is imperative
that all door leaves which may be in contact with
moisture be fully sealed around the top edges with a
proprietary clear silicone sealant to prevent moisture
water ingress.

Page | 21
Doc. Ref.: ARC-MST-P3-2021-01
METHOD STATEMENT Revision 00
Date 17 March 2021

 The standard primer is fully stove in accordance with

manufacturer's instructions and therefore no problems
are envisaged when subsequent on site applications
are made.
 Remove all burrs and sharp arises which would be
visible or a hazard to the user.
 Protect against damage, dirt, moisture and other
deleterious matters.

6.2.3.3.2 Maintenance
