THE INFLUENCE OF INFORMAL DIMENSION ON THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE

ENTIRE SCHOOL CURRICULUM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES.
INFORMAL DIMENSION-Is a general term for education that occurs outside of a structured
curriculum. The students learn unconsciously through informal learning activities that go on all
the time. The learner may not even recognize the enrichment of their knowledge and skills.
Informal education learning through activities such as visiting museums, watching educative
programs or listening to the radio. The goal is to eventually provide the learner with tools needed
to eventually reach more complex material in the real world. The teacher is simply someone with
more experience such as a parent, grandparent or a friend.
Informal dimension has several influences on the achievement of the entire school curriculum
goals and objectives:
a) The presentation of good models in schools helps learners to form positive favorable
behavior through imitation. It provides role models for the learners.
b)Informal dimension supports formal dimension-especially acquiring knowledge, skills and
attitudes from the peers, mass media and other unplanned for sources of learning.
c) Informal education provides an environment to guide and counsel others-through the
daily life situations that learners observe and see how they are solved, they are able to apply the
same and hence help others.
d) It helps individuals learn to control and react to different situations in different settings.
Learners can easily adapt to different situations in different environments.
e) It combines social entities that are important for learning-this helps in being involved in
youth and community organizations.
f) Helps people learn information in a new way-informal learning is natural or spontaneous
and hence learning takes place every other time in different ways.
g) Cultivation of communities, associations and relationships-is achieved through informal
education and hence making a positive learning environment.
h) Informal education bridges the gap between theory and practical-learners are able to
learn every other time either practically or theoretically and this makes them prepared for any
situations.
i) It gives the learners real word issues and opportunities to solve problems in their own
lives and communities. Learners master by becoming deeply engaged in solving a problem
.This, motivates them and help them learn new concepts.
j) Teaching students new scientific concepts by using cultural tools could help eliminate the
time spent trying to figure out whether the concepts are useful or not. This helps the learners
master what to study from the start.
k) The use of languages such as English and Grammar being applied effectively when
communicating with others in the community, students become more inclined to effectively
master the concepts since they would be using them for individual or group purposes.
l) Informal education is often used as a way of working with people with special needs. It is
aimed at students as much as the public at large and imposes no obligations whatever the nature.
-On the hand informal dimension also influences the achievement of the entire school curriculum
goals and objectives negatively:
i) One cannot describe the level of their education concisely such as doctorate, masters
ii) There is dependence on respective work processes-the learner depends to learn from the
processes going on around them.
iii) There is randomness in acquiring of knowledge.
