Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra, the great Prophet and

Messiah of the Age.
By Sarbeswar Doley, S.P.R
Assam, India

Whenever, O, Arjuna, righteousness declines and unrighteousness prevails, I manifest

myself. (Gita, IV: 7)

The life of Sri Sri Thakur is so eventful and so inspiring that it is difficult to paint a
picture of its splendor and glory in such a brief write-up. Those who saw him and were
fortunate enough to come in his contact know what a wonderful and attractive
personality he was.

Early Childhood

On 14th September, 1888, Sri Thakur was born in a Brahmin family in Himaitpur in
Pabna district, now in Bangladesh. His father, Sri Shiv Chandra Chakraborty was well
known for his ideal-mindedness, dutifulness, kindness and hospitality. His mother
Srimati Monomohini Devi was a great devotee of God and a disciple of Sri Sri Hujur
Maharaj, the great saint and spiritual guide of Agra Satsang. At the time of his birth the
room was brightened with radiance from an inexplicable divine light and the women in
attendance were amazed at the child Anukulchandra.

His early life, like the rest of it, was full of wonderful events. One day, when he was 11
months old, he was taken to the house of one Umesh Lahiri, who used to worship the
image of Balagopal (Lord Krishna‘s childhood name) in his house. Mr. Lahiri was sitting
absorbed in meditation when the child Anukul arrived with his mother. His meditation
was suddenly broken when this child put aside the image of Balagopal and sat in His
place. When mother Monomohini scolded the child, he innocently said ―Why does he
call me then?‖

One day a Sanayasi (monk) came to Anukulchandra‘s house. Mother Monomohini

welcomed him but he did not pay any attention to the welcome. With tears rolling down
his eyes, the Sanayasi said, ―This is no ordinary boy. He has come to reduce the
world‘s sufferings‖. This sanayasi cooked the rice he had been given earlier and made
an offering to the divine child and then ate the rest of it as prasad (offering). He said
that he had found the Lord whom he had been trying to find all through his life.

Education

On an auspicious day, his father got him enrolled as a student in a school. But there
was hardly anything in that school for him to learn. One day a teacher in that school
was explaining to the children that ONE PLUS ONE MAKES TWO. Child
Anukulchandra wondered whether this was right. As no two things of the world are
identical, how can they be added together? But the teacher did not understand him at
all and beat him mercilessly.

9
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

One day, he was late for his examination in mathematics. His mother said, ―You are so
late and you will not be able to solve a single sum.‖ Anukulchandra rushed to school
and reached his school in time for the examination. He found the question paper very
easy; he could solve all the sums in that paper. But he was not doing the sums; he was
full of tears. When a teacher asked him what the matter was, he said that if he solved
any one of the sums, his mother would be proved a liar. The teacher looked in wonder
and amazement at this unbelievable example of devotion to his mother.

At the end of the course in the school, he had to appear in the college entrance
examination. As he was going to deposit his examination fee, he met one of his
classmates, who did not have money for the fee. Saddened by his friend‘s distress,
Anukulchandra deposited the money in his friend‘s name and came back home.

His mother wanted him to be a doctor. But only those who passed the entrance
examination were eligible for admission to the National Medical School in Calcutta. The
teachers of that medical school were so impressed by his knowledge that they held a
special examination for him. Anukulchandra was admitted to this medical school after
passing this special examination with extraordinary merit.

Calcutta, like most other cities, had lots of vile attractions. In his spare time
Anukulchandra would sit by the side of the Ganges and repeat the HOLY name. Some
of his fellow students for whom the most important thing in life was the gratification of
animal desires, did not like his contemplative nature and his spotless character and
wanted to test him. So one day his classmates caught hold of him and persuaded him
to go out for a walk with them. They took him along through various unknown lanes and
alley and finally forced him to enter a two-storied building on Chitpur road. Soon these
friends disappeared leaving Anukulchandra behind. It was a prostitute‘s house and the
woman approached him with a seductive smile. He shivered at this horrible sight of a
mother. Calling her by the name of Mother, he went into a trance and said ―Mother I
can‘t see this form of yours. You are a mother, but what have you done to yourself?‖
After he regained consciousness, she fell at his feet and prayed for forgiveness. Later
she donated all the property to a philanthropic organization and left for Vrindavan to
lead the life of a devotee.

AS A PHYSICIAN

He practiced as a physician only for a few years but even then his reputation traveled
far and wide. Patients who could not be cured by some of the very eminent physicians
in the country and thus lost all hope of survival came to him and went back fully cured.
His training was in allopathy but sometimes he also used homeopathic and ayurvedic
(naturopathy) medicines according to the needs and symptoms of the patients. One
day when he saw one of his acquaintances passing by, he could read on his face the
symptom of the homeopathic medicine called veratum album. This acquaintance was
taking some fish home. Anukulchandra asked him not to eat fish because fish was
going to be dangerous for him. This person did not understand the implications and
said ―When Allah so desires, one day or another I must die,‖ and went home. Shortly
after he arrived home he had a terrible attack of diarrhea. When he broke into cold
10

sweat and his condition became critical, he remembered this doctor and he was cured
with that homeopathic medicine.

His aim, however, was to cure a patient completely. The mind is said to be the root
cause of any diseases and so even after the physical disease was cured, he wanted to
cure the patient‘s mind with his supreme love. All his patients became his great
admirers in no time.

THE PERIOD OF TRANCE

From his very childhood Anukulchandra was extremely fond of music, particularly of
devotional songs. He organized kirtans which were so inspiring that the whole
atmosphere used to get charged up with an indefinable vibration leading to divine
inspiration.

Those who participated in it say that when the kirtans rose in intensity, even birds and
animals became enamored of it and even the branches of the trees seemed to bend
down to the rhythmic movements. Sometimes he fell to the ground in an unconscious
state and with an amazing rapidity his body moved though numerous yogic positions
and gestures although he had never practiced such exercises before. After this the
body became limp and the big toe of his right foot vibrated for a while. Finally, the
whole body would become as cold as ice and stayed in this condition for hours together.
His heart would also stop functioning for sometime. In that state he spoke out
numerous messages, saying who he was and what his followers should do for an all
around upliftment of society, which had long been the victim of all kinds of corruption
and degradation. He spoke not only in Bengali, Hindi and Sanskrit but also in many
other languages in which he had never spoken at any other time.

His sayings during this period of trance covered a wide variety of subjects like creation,
religion, prophets, love, universal brotherhood and the significance of the holy name.
The messages recorded on 71 days during 1915 to 1919 were compiled and published
in the book now known as Punya Puthi. During the period of trance, as before and after,
he emphasized the essential unity of all religions. Being overwhelmed by his divine
personality, his followers started calling him Sri Sri Thakur.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

The trance disappeared after a few years. Thousands of people from different parts of
the country and from abroad started coming to him with personal, social, national and
political problems and wanted him to suggest solution for those problems. Mr. C.R. Das,
one of the important leaders of India‘s struggle for independence and a devoted
disciple of Sri Sri Thakur, wrote a letter to Mahatma Gandhi saying ―I have learnt from
my Guru the value of truth in all our dealings. I want to live with him for few days at
least. Your need is not the same as mine, but he has given me the strength I did not
possess before. I see things clearly which I saw dimly before.‖
(Young India, July 1925)

11

Impressed by Mr. C.R. Das‘s enthusiasm, Mahatma Gandhi visited Sri Sri Thakur and
found him a wonderful personality of the world. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President
of India, Mr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Mr. Bipin Pal, Mr. A.K. Fazlul Haque and Mr.
Gopinath Bordoloi were among some of the many thousands of people who visited Him.
Respected Jigme Dorjee Wanchuk, the king of Bhutan also sought His blessings and
advice. The parents of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose became his great devotees and
Netaji himself came to see Him many times.

People asked Him questions on science, philosophy, religion, problems of personal life,
national life and so on. He answered people‘s questions with amazing clarity and
conviction. His inspired utterances and conversations with various people at various
times have all been recorded. So far more than fifty books containing these utterances
and conversations have been published. Once a scientist by the name, Mr. Krishna
Prasanna Bhattacharya, who later became one of his great disciples, doubted his
abilities and said ―How can you talk of these things, of electron, of quanta? Surely you
have read of these things?‖ He answered, ―No, from my childhood I sometimes see the
universe melting into a glow of ineffable light particles and the light condenses again
and again into the material objects surrounding me.‖

FROM HIMAITPUR TO DEOGHAR

In 1946, Sri Sri Thakur asked some of his followers one day to reserve a railway
carriage and then left the Ashram at Himaitpur for Baidyanath Dham (Deoghar) in Bihar.
His arrival turned Deoghar into a great center of attraction. People from different parts
of Bihar and other parts of India, large number of people from outside India came to
Deoghar to visit Him. This tremendous popularity antagonized some miscreants who
filed certain contemptible cases to malign Sri Sri Thakur. But the truth became known
and the miscreants surrendered and were forgiven by His ever-forgiving nature.

THE GREAT DEPARTURE

He passed away on 4:45 a.m. on 27 January 1969. Even now the sight of the house in
which He lived brings back to His lakhs of devotees extremely pleasant memories of
this great personality. They all know that the best compliment they can pay to Him is to
follow His instructions and be prosperous and blessed thereby. Some of His inspired
utterances and sayings have been listed below.

MY RELIGION

The act of binding oneself

With the Ideal,
In love, worship and administration
And to live on accordingly
In an acceleration
Of one‘s being and becoming
Is Religion to me.

RELIGIONS MAY BE MANY

Religions may be many,

But the principle
And the realization thereof
Are ever the same.

SPIRITUALISM AS I MEAN

Spiritualism is investigation
And invention
Of the how‘s and why‘s
By which matter extends and grows-
To the acceleration
Or our being
And becoming;

INGRATITUDE

Ingratitude is the only throne

Of Satan:
Betrayal is the
Dreadful-darkening
Queen-consort,-
Where sin and crime
Are the prime ministers:

13

INSIGNIFCANT THE GREAT

He who thinks himself

With the Denial of
Others‘ possibilities to be so
Proclaims
That he is himself
Insignificant the Great;

OPPONENT-THE CAUSE OF THY SUCCESS

When opposition comes forth,

Manage it
By exerting thyself
To make thy opponent prominent; -
Surely the opponent will be
The cause of
Thy success;

TIT FOR TAT

Tit not for tat,

Rather treat for tat
Compassionately,

PARDON YOUR OPPONENT

Be not proud
But pardon your opponent
And seek the opportunity
To serve him.

BE NOT A HELP-SEEKER

Be not
A help-seeker,
Until your need is dire
And thus save your ability.

14

DESTRUCTIVE “ISM”

Any ―ism‖
That ruins or dislocates
The existential tradition
And culture of any country
Is not the fulfiller of it,
Rather a destructive demon
Of that soil.

TRUTH

That which keeps our being

Firm and compact
Is true to us.

DO CORECTLY

Be not agitated
By your mistakes;
Find out the correct approach
And do correctly
Mistakes will fly off.

THE METER OF MANHOOD

Let your heart

Be the meter
Of your manhood,
And not money.

THE MOTHER OF SUCCESS

Verily, I say,
Doing
Is the mother
Of success.

In such a small introduction it is impossible to make even a brief mention of the many
incidents in the life of such a great personality. The people of each faith and religion
have found in Him the fulfillment of their own faith and religion. The following are some
Tributes paid to Him by some foreign newspapers.

―Sri Sri Thakur‘s thesis is that the universe is one and the solution of all problems and
requires a synthesis. Any effort to separate the material and spiritual is useless. He
15
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

preaches and practically applies his belief that the universe is sustained by love that
must find a practical expression in every contact. Sri Sri Thakur is truly an Indian holy
man with His feet on the ground----―
(St. Louis Post Despatch, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A.:Sept. 15 th, 1962)

―Sri Sri Thakur, a modern saint in India, has done much good through his teachings
and his practical works. He is a wise man who bears no religious prejudices.‖
(Gazette Mail, Charleston, W. Virginia, U.S.A.:15thJuly, 1962)

―Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra is one of the worlds great spiritual leaders, a man of
extraordinary intelligence and keen insight, a physician, a scientist, a man of love and
service…‖
(Together, Methodist Monthly: Dec. 1962)

―Sri Sri Thakur has a real message for our world. He rejects the gross materialism of
the West, while yet embracing our science and inventions. He embodies ideas so
powerful and challenging that people with strings of degrees will find themselves
thinking about this contemporary Indian Saint again & again.
(The Examiner, U.S.A.: 20th July, 1962)

―From India comes a 20th Century ―Gospel‖, Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra is unlike the
stereotyped Guru. He is a medical doctor well trained in Western Science who
combines his medical ability and scientific interests with contemplative and mystic
techniques…(Thakur) blends meditative mystical techniques with a stress on love in
terms of deeds of mercy and the use of scientific theories (evolution) and practice
through medicine.
His deeds of mercy particularly when they are coupled with an enlightened medical
science and love in Thakur and his followers are needed today. Love, kindness and
truth are needed and men who do the good that Sri Sri Thakur does are needed.‖
(The Kansas City Times: Kansas City, Missouri, U.S.A.:8th August, 1962)

―Sri Sri Thakur‘s life and work makes the Christian doctrine of love a practical ―Modus
Operandi‖ for hundreds of thousands of Indians. The political and economic
implications of work are as important as its spiritual basis- not only for India but for us in
the West also. A visit to the small, informal centers of his devotees in various rural and
urban areas of India is a refreshing and inspiring reminder of the early days of
Christianity.‖
(Mr. Eugene Exman, Vice-President, Harper & Ro Publishers’, New York, U.S.A)

Thus men and women from far and near came and bowed at his feet, offering money
and tears. He heard their sufferings patiently even eagerly, He turned his back on their
money and took their homage.

A reformed gangster assisted him as patients grew in number; bomb-throwing terrorists

in the dead of night came to unburden their anguished hearts. With a mind as
perceptive as practical, He pierced to the root and innocently yet unerringly suggested
a way or an activity that when followed would remove or soothe the smoldering source
of bitterness or frustration in the heart and mind toward friend, foe, ruler or ruled. He
16
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

has everything that gives hope to this world. He is worshipped by tens of thousands as
a god; he is offered gifts that constantly grow larger. He receives such a flood of
spontaneous service as would make a king jealous; he has family, friends and flatters
that few men could dream to match.

Here is Sri Sri Thakur, our God in flesh and blood.

Meditation
Dr. Bhaskar Chakraborty, M.D., (S.P.R.)
New Delhi, India

Nowadays some people are giving more importance on Dhyan

(Meditation). However, one should be cautious that they are just talking
about Dhyan but not repeating the Holy Name according to the direction
given by the Satguru or Prophet. We are the followers of Sri Sri Thakur
Anukulchandra and know the method of Dhyan with repetition of the Holy
Name
.
To overcome the stress and strain of life and to cool the nervous system, to execute
work accurately, we try to achieve good results through the process of Dhyan. All over
the world industrial enterprises are gaining importance. In that area mental strain and
stress are also abound, mainly at the management level, because they are responsible
for getting more work with best quality of production material within a short period of
time. Companies will profit when there is very high competition all over the world with
the best quality of production and more sale of the material. How an industrial
enterprise can survive with its employees, depends on the best quality of production
and more sales. For that, management and workers have to keep their mental stress
under control. It has been observed through research, only meditation can relieve
mental stress and those who are practicing meditation are getting good results. Some
organizations advertise in the media to give training in meditation and they charge
heavily per person for this. They give training just to fix one‘s attention at the root of
nose, without the necessity to repeat the Holy name. This is called devotion of the
unmanifest of Brahma that has no shape, no form; the devotee has no knowledge
about the goal. The personality of the devotee gets formed according to that which he
meditates on and the object of which he loves. So, the person should have great love
and respect for the Ideal he meditates on. So the Ideal should be the Super Soul in
flesh and blood, and we call him a Prophet. He should have the capacity to solve the
entire world‘s problems. Otherwise a person will gradually become rigid and dull if his
object of love (upon whom he meditates) is the unmanifest Brahma
.
In chapter XII of the Bhagavad Geeta, Arjuna said to Lord Krishna – the devotees
exclusively and constantly devoted to you in the manner stated earlier, adore you as
possessed of attribute as those who adore the Supreme reality only, the indestructible
unmanifested Brahma.

Of these two types of worshipers who is the best Yogi?

Lord Krishna said – I consider them to be the best Yogis who are endowed with
supreme faith and who are united through meditating on me worship me with the mind
centered on me. Sri Bhagwan also said –It is more difficult for those who have their
mind attached to the unmanifested. On the other hand those who depend exclusively
on me, surrendering all actions to me, worship me, constantly meditate on me with
single-minded devotion. Those Arjuna, I speedily deliver from the ocean of birth and

18
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

death, their mind being fixed on me. Therefore, fix your mind on me and establish your
intellect in me alone. Thereafter, you will abide solely in me. There is no doubt about it.
Sri Sri Thakur also said in his message

Repeated mental utterance

of the Mantra
with thoughts about Him
from which it has been

Revealed
or who’s its Seer-
is Japa.
The prime factor of Japa is
along with Mantra,
the nourishing and cherishing
elation of attachment
to its Seer
with an activating resonance.
The loving elation
tuned with thoughts of
Superior Beloved
and with repetition of Mantra
according to his Direction
leads a man-
character with inspiration of
satisfactorily pleasing the

Beloved Ideal
with active materialization
of deeds
with psychic phenomena
to Siddhi or success.
Dhyan – its method
Mere-fixation of mind
upon the figure of the Ideal
cannot necessarily be called
Dhyan.
Active craving
for the interest and
glory of the Ideal
adjusting normally
to His fulfillment,
whatever reflections
may occur in the brain-
with desire of continuous thinking
is Meditation
as I mean.

19
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

Meditation on the Holy Name (on the Living Ideal) makes the brain very sharp and
increases receptivity of the brain (by Dhyan). The Guru should be the Seer, All-Fulfiller,
who can solve any problem of human life. Meditation of His Mantra means one will
achieve one‘s goal and have success. Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra is the same Super
Soul, the Guru who can see everything and can solve any problem of human life – the
All- Fulfiller.

There is a similarity of his message with the Bhagavad-Gita.

If a person meditates on zero point without any living Ideal in front of him, the person
will gradually become blunt, and success is rare in their life. So, Swami Vivekananda
said that if a person makes few mistakes after attachment with Satguru, that person
would make thousands of mistakes without Satguru.

If a person cannot meditate properly (with Living Ideal as the center) sharpness of the
brain will be reduced. Sharpness of brain is necessary for finer and quick production of
best quality material. Sharpness and receptivity ratio should be equal. If equality of ratio
is lost, production of material will lose its quick and best quality. Then there will be a
failure in marketing the material; hence the time will come when owner will be forced to
close his factory. He cannot pay his employee due to loss in market. There will be more
and more unemployment; there may be no route open for the employee and owner
except to commit suicide.

I like to quote one example of best quality production. Sri Sri Thakur established
Satsang Chemical Works. It produces very high quality of medicines. They were not
able to fulfill the demand of the market. One small example is Cardotone (Heart Tonic).
It is the best medicine for the heart, and it can control any irregularities of the heart rate
like tacky cardiac (PSVT), fibrillation different ectopic (arterial + Ventricular). Those who
are using cardotone regularly after M.I. have had increase in their EF. DCM can usually
be very much in control. I have not seen any person using cardotone regularly who is
suffering from Ischemic Heart Disease and M.I.

Real meditation controls the passions in a person, passions that divert him to
wrongdoing and create all sorts of sorrow and unhappiness in life. Those passions will
never knock on the door of a person who meditates and has accepted the Satguru (the
Living Ideal) in their life.

―Children, fix your attention at the root of the nose to have you and draw the spirit
onward‖- this was my policy when I was Jesus.‖

This was spoken by Sri Sri Thakur when he was in a trance on 13.3. 1321
(Bengali year). The common people and even scientists could not understand this
‗policy‘ for centuries.

Effects of Meditation
Dr. Bhaskar Chakraborty (SPR), M.D.
New Delhi, India

Subtle vibrations are created by the various actions and

interactions in our system. These vibrations create sounds that
can be heard within if the brain cells are stimulated in a specific
way. Such sounds arise in the consciousness in gradations from
grosser to finer. The brain cells become excited from repetition of
the vibration and combustion takes place in them. The result is
that those impressions stored in the cells are released and
appear in the consciousness in different forms: colors, sounds and so on. Again proper
meditation generates heat. The intercellular combustion caused by the pressure of
proper meditation is like that. As the internal pressure increases the cells break out of
their latent static state and gradually increase in elasticity. The internal nervous system
reflects this transformation as a vision, a colour or a light. Further, this radiating
stimulus excites the auditory nerve centre and creates a sound accordingly. Thus the
consequent excitement of the auditory centre through the repetition of a vibration
having the creative force causes one to hear something internally but without any
external stimulation. In his book, ―Man the unknown‖, the Noble laureate Alexis Carrel
has expressed ―Certain spiritual activities may cause anatomical as well as functional
modifications of the tissues and the organs. These organic phenomena are observed in
various circumstances, among them being the prayer. Prayer should be understood not
as a mere mechanical recitation of formulas but as a mystical elevation and absorption
of consciousness in the contemplation of a principle both permeating and transcending
our world. Such a psychological state is not intellectual. It is incomprehensible to
philosophers and scientists, and inaccessible to them. But the simple, seems to feel
God as easily as the heat of the sun or the kindness of a friend. About efficacy of
prayer and meditation Sri Sri Thakur told that the cerebral substance in the brain
contains millions of cells linked to one another by thread like fibers.

Most of the cells remain dormant. Should one persistently – concentrate his mind on a
gland straight from the midpoint between two eyes one becomes calm and receptive.
Possibly the point coincides with what is called pineal gland. It is a minute, oval
endocrine gland just attached to the base of the brain and situated in a depression of
the sphenoid bone that secrets hormone. It is slightly above the oculomotor nerve. The
holy name given by Sri Sri Thakur is the abbreviated form of the whole structure of the
thrill and the sound, sound can not be created without thrill. We are blessed with the
holy vibration by Sri Sri Thakur as the root mechanism of all vibrations. RA is the
great-enlarged syllable; DHA is the imaginary followed by stoppage. After RA and DHA
added with aa the continuity of these waves – succession of these waves follows.
SWAMI means the original to and fro movement like the to and fro motion of the piston
of a trained.

‗Aum‘ is the sound. After crossing ‗Aum‘ there are other sounds found. ‗Radhaswami‘ is
not a sound but it is the soul of the sound. As this feeling sprouts up in the vocal sound

of that may be pronounced as ‗Radhaswami‘, this can be felt as the central life of the
universe and verily be called causal thrill.

Mantra is a formulated clue, meditating on which leads to the unfoldment of the cause.
The vital current is swelled up and nourished through cogitation of holy mantra and
meditation. It can even heal up many incurable diseases in man by infusing existential
thrill. By stimulating man through vital vibration of the Holy Name, mal functions of the
body organ of diseased can be set to tune with re-vitalization.

MIRACLE HORMONE – MELATONIN

Recently from 1980 onwards scientists have done great exciting break through of this
Millennium by discovering secretion of Miracle Hormone from Pineal Gland the
„MELATONIN‟.

Pineal Gland is situated at the center of the brain just behind Thalamus size of ½cm,
weight 120 mg, usually it dries up at the age of above 40.

If one draws a straight line at the root of nose between two eyebrows it will reach to the
pineal gland. So, Sri Sri Thakur gave instruction to fix attention at the root of nose and
repeat the Holy Name i.e. chanting the Holy Name.

Vibration by chanting Holy Name will stimulate pineal gland for more secretion of
melatonin. The melatonin helps to slow down ageing process, prevent diseases by
secreting antibody by boosting immune system, by boosting energy level to keep
youthfulness over a long time. To survive without diseases, without memory loss, which
organ of the body is responsible? This was unknown for centuries
.
Lord Buddha at the peak of His youth left the golden throne, lovely beautiful wife, and
affectionate son, in search for a way to prevent ageing process, disease and premature
death. Could He find out the way? Yes, He found the way through meditation. His
ideology was spread worldwide.

For a long time scientists have neglected two glands of our body, pineal gland and
appendix. Sri Sri Thakur told that no part of our body is useless.

Of course, from time immemorial in Indian Vedic culture various books have been
discussed. The Third eye or Tri-netra or Gyan-netra or Aghya-Chakra. During the Vedic
age Sages could develop their Tri-netra through meditation. So they could see clearly
the past, present and future by perceptivity, receptivity and sharpness of brain. It was
more adapted to their brain through meditation as compared with common people.

Melatonin, which is produced naturally by human brain, helps us to live longer, sleep
better, overcome stress and strain of life, boost immune system to keep the body
disease free and helps to maintain blood pressure at normal level.

Melatonin acts as a powerful Antioxidant – prevent early oxidation of the cells of our
body, it prevents early wrinkling and heart diseases also.
22
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

Oxidation is the reason for iron rusting, paint fading and oil furnishing rancid in the body.
It is one of the most common causes of cellular damage, breaking down complex and
delicate chemical compounds necessary for life and health.

Secretion of melatonin acts as an anti-oxidant prevents rusting of cells, which stops

chemical damage of oxidation. By blocking oxidation of cells, melatonin prevents
changes in blood vessels i.e. atherosclerosis, changes of blood vessels which cause
hypertension and heart attack and it may reduce attack of cancer and memory loss.

All health problems develop due to ageing process and it is due to the deficiency of
melatonin.

To maintain youthful life, to keep it for a long time and disease free with intact memory
and every thing, it is necessary to depend on continuous secretion of melatonin.

Stress and strain of life and different drugs can reduce secretion of melatonin, can even
shut down such secretion and pre-maturely starts ageing process. Many drugs as
Alpha & Beta-Blocker, Painkiller are NSAID (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs).

Other less harmful drugs include Stimulant, Sedative, and Benzodiazepine such as
Valium and Librium, Birth Control Pill, Estrogen replacement Therapy, ACE Inhibitor
and Thyroid Pills.

Also other less harmful effects like electromagnetic field emitted by household gadgets
from coffee maker to computer have powerful effect on pineal gland secretion, some
times shutting down melatonin secretion completely.

Light and Darkness regulate secretion of melatonin. So it is called a Biological Clock.

The pineal gland is connected to eyes through nerve. The onset of darkness transmits
a signal to pineal gland for production of melatonin. When we feel sleepy in the evening
it is due to secretion of melatonin pumping in blood stream. So, it is called a natural
sleeping pill. Again in the morning bright light hitting the retina of eye shut down
melatonin secretion completely.

The Message given by Sri Sri Thakur-

Do meditate Mantra on thy Lord
Dawn and night,
Do repeat the Holy Name
Mentally and meaningfully
In all movements of daily life,
Do materialize the directions
Of the Guru (Spiritual Guide) in time-
That is Tapas—
The way to achievement

Vibration created by chanting of Holy Name stimulates the Pineal Gland for secretion of
Melatonin. By meditation all stress and strain of life can be overcome, nervous system
will cool and adjusted normally by the help of melatonin. Swami Vivekananda said that
carrying out the order of Guru without the least shadow and hesitation is only the way
of success.

Usually after 40 years of age the Pineal Gland gradually stops secretion of Melatonin,
according to various opinions of scientists. However, Sri Sri Thakur has given
instruction for meditation right from childhood. Continuous stimulation and vibration of
meditation will keep Pineal Gland alive and active even many years after 40 years of
age.

Autonomic Nervous System is an efferent system that innervates vascular and smooth
muscle exocrine glands, a Parenchyma Cells through out the various organ systems
functioning below conscious level. The autonomic nervous system responds rapidly
and continuously to perturbation that threats our constancy of the internal environment.
Foremost among the functions governed by the system are the regulation of blood flow
and the maintenance of the tissue perfusion, the regulation of blood pressure the
regulation of Vol. Composition of extra cellur fluid, the expenditure of metabolic energy
and supply substrate and activity, visceral smooth muscle and glands. The automatic
neurons located in ganglia out side, center nervous system and there are preganglionic
neurons of the Para-sympathetic nervous system

A Neurotransmitter as ACETYCHOLINE is pre-ganglion for both division of automatic

nervous system so it is called Cholinergic (Para-sympathetic).

All naturally occurring Catecholamine, Norepinephrine and Epinephrine and Dopamine

function as neurotransmitter within the CNS Catecholamine maintained in high
concentration in adrenal medulla. All N E present in sympathetic nerve ending.

All these neurotransmitters are essential for motor sensory co-ordination and to lead
active life. Deficiency of Dopamine produces Parkinsonism, thymus gland controls body
temperature.
Some endocrine glands like Pancreas and Pituitary Gland by their active secretion
maintain youthfulness. Deficiencies of pituitary secretion cause loss of youthfulness
and reduce memory. Deficiency of hormone in pancreas causes Diabetes Mellitus.

24

It is said, that melatonin activates them all and maintains youthful life, and sharp
memory. Due to motor sensory co-ordination there will be fewer mistakes in policy-
making, planning of work and its execution.

Intuition will be more accurate, perception of brain and sharpness of work will increase,
and work will be finer.
Regular Meditation, Vegetarian Diet with less fat and salt, with Vitamin E, C and A help
to secrete melatonin regularly.

One can survive more than 100 years of disease free youthful life. They may acquire
many things like ‗Jatismar‘, can revive a dead person.

Satguru/Prophet knows solution for all earthly problems. So we should follow them
without hesitation and doubt.

Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra, the founder of SATSANG is the latest incarnation of God.
We should follow Him and His Ideology for the benefit of the Individual, Society and
Country.

In summer of 1978 on a very sultry evening we clustered around ParamaPujyaPada

SriSri Dada on the rooftop of the new Guest House in ThakurBari. There were very few
people. From what I can remember, there were some who were singing as per His
request. Since I was new in this exclusive company and enjoying His Holy presence
every second of my being there, my whole heart filled with fresh breath of life and
untold joy. Sri Sri Dada queried, ―Ota Kere?‖ Sanjib Mondal Da replied, ―O Konnagar
Theke Esechhe. Or Naam Bapi.‖

The place was semi dark and to give Sri Sri Dada a little bit of tranquility, the people in
charge of serving Him appropriately did not put on external lights. Only the moon
upstairs was shining and created a super atmosphere of peace and harmony. The one
who serves the Lord naturally glows even in darkness. I think SriSri Dada always loves
and serves the Lord incarnate out of natural practice. That‘s what makes His
realization so different, so pure and so natural. This little memory of my life will never
be wiped out from my repository of spiritual collections. From that night onwards, I felt I
am loved by all, cared by all and acquired a new sense of purposefulness.

The next morning I was introduced to SriSri Dada by Pujoniya RangaMa. We were
sitting inside the private residence of ParamaPujyaPada SriSri Borda. Inside the
Soroshi Bhawan, He was accompanied by Pujoniya RangaMa, SanjibDa, AshutoshDa,
RohitoshDa, KripasindhuDa, Dhirenda, NandaDulalda, and BimalDa. RangaMa very
exaltingly introduced me to SriSri Dada saying, ―Babu, Tui Bapike Chinish‖? I was
awestruck. The little offering of a Sada Chadar was liked by SriSri Borda so much that
for the last few months He was wrapping the Sada Chadar around Him while He was
doing Name and meditation. This Chadar was brought in by my sister Kalpana (who is
no longer with us in this world) from USA and given to me to offer to SriSri Borda.

This is another rare phenomenon of Thakur‘s family. That is to trumpet the drums of
others even if they do very little. Anyway, the bridge of love was connected and ever
since I experienced unfathomable quantum of love from SriSri Dada. He is my Father
in my needs, AcharyaDeva in my spiritual life, ever protecting me from utter mistakes of
life that I would have otherwise made. SriSri Borda was looking at me with a godly
smile so sweet that it is inexplicable. He looked at me and asked, ―Baba Kemon
Acchhen‖? I replied nodding my head because I was utterly speechless experiencing
the love in that room.

Much later in my life, I got to travel with Late KaminiDa (no longer with us) of Guwahati.
Of all the people I know and admire outside Thakur‘s family, KaminiDa seems like a
rare breed. Rev. BinkiDa always seems to be lovingly joking around with me. We have
this indefinable attributes in our relationship that only few enjoy. The youngest son of
Prodhan AcharyaDeva is an impeccable devotee of SriSri Thakur. It is hard to
understand him as he seems absolutely normal. Inside he is always planning to do

bigger, better things. His ability to network with people across the nation is just
admirable. His

Anyway, we are leaving for Dakshinatya the next morning. SriSri Dada kindly accepted
me in the roster as part of the caravan. I was told by the organizers to get ready very
early because the bus would start at 9:30 AM. As I was planning to go to my room
early to catch a good night‘s sleep, Rev. BinkiDa took me apart and asked me, ―Apni
KaminiDake Chenen‖? When I said ―no‖, he told me about the man. We spoke about
one hour and he finally advised me to keep in touch with KaminiDa whenever I can.
―…he is one of the very few people who understands who Baba (SriSri Dada) is‖, said
BinkiDa. That little advice paid me immensely in my life. Had Rev. BinkiDa would not
advise me and act as a true Acharya, my understanding of SriSri Dada would be
always grossly incomplete.

KaminiDa described his experience with SriSri Borda and SriSri Dada as being totally
out of luck. He humbly told me that he cannot boast of any special skills or attributes or
enriched form of Sadhana to enjoy this special love from them. It just happened. We
were in a SUV from Bangalore on our way to Chennai. I was not traveling with
KaminiDa, DulalDa (Majumdar) and RatanDa (Sarkar) for the preceding part of the
journey. Somehow, it must have been the blessing of Dayal that I was advised to be in
that car. SriSri Dada had about 12 cars in the caravan. Each car and traveling
passengers are configured by the advice of none other than Pujoniyo BabaiDa.

Those eight hours of my life was one of the most valuable times of my life. I was now
soaking the stories of a realized Hrishi from a person who realized Him (the Hrishi) to a
great extent. DulalDa and I was spellbound while KaminiDa unilaterally describing his
enriched experience with SriSri Dada. We were not sure what RatanDa was doing.
Usually he is so quiet and meditational.

―Apni Dadar Charan Jugal Konodin Dekhechhen Khoob Kachh Theke‖?, asked
KaminiDa.
I replied, ―Yes, I had this rare opportunity to take care of His holy feet in Puri
ThakurBari. Khoob Naram. ―
He retorted, ―Khoob Lal. Lord Vishnur Payer Moto.‖
He continued, ―Every time I turn around, His feet are getting redder. Amra Kake
Peyechhi, Aar Helai Somoi Katachhi. Komore Gamchha Bendhe Lege Poren. Ekhono
Somoi Achhe.‖

I remembered Mahatma Kabir‘s verse:

Lalee Meri Lalki

Jeet Dekho Teet Lal
Lalee Dekhon Main Gayee
Main Bhi Ho Gayee Lal.‖

The Mysteries of Human Birth

by Maa Harshananda and Sri Nithya Devarshi
(aka Elizabeth Carman, Ph. D. and Neil Carman, Ph.D.)
TX, US

Authors of Cosmic Cradle, Souls Waiting in the Wings for Birth

Rare are those among us who seem to remember anything about our first breath at
birth, what transpired in the nine months inside the womb or even our existence before
our biological conception. Our first memories of living in the body are steeped in deep
mystery and lie hidden beneath layers of veiled consciousness. How fascinating, then,
to find gifted individuals who experience a conscious birth, who recall the realms of the
cosmos from where they journeyed to reach Earth, as well as their reasons for coming
here. We describe memory of events occurring prior to life in a physical body and
developing a physical brain — ―gifted memory.‖

William Wordsworth, the 19th Century English poet refers to Gifted Memory when he
says:

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:

the Soul that rises with us, our Life’s Star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting, and cometh from afar:
Not in entire forgetfulness, and not in utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come from God, who is our home.

Gifted Memory suggests that consciousness is not confined to a physical body, and
that memory is independent from having a brain and neurological system. Surprising
historical sources posit that Gifted Memory is natural. Gifted Memories have not been
well reported or accepted in Western cultures, since the scientific theory prevailed that
newborn babies did not have sufficient brain development to be able to have memories.
But advancements in medical research and insights into the abilities of newborns to
bond with their mothers quickly after birth reveal that the brain is far more developed at
birth than previously thought. The ability to maintain awareness beyond death, through
other worlds, and back to rebirth is proportional to spiritual maturity. The higher the
consciousness, the greater the power of memory. Individuals with the greatest gifted
memories of their conscious birth are enlightened persons, who report more profound
experiences due to their higher state of human consciousness. The ability to
consciously recall experiences associated with life in the womb, the earliest moments
after being born, and even before fetal development are extraordinary and reflects a
poorly known characteristic of enlightened individuals.

Plato, Sufism, Middle Eastern Gnosticism, Mormonism, Transcendentalism, Hinduism,

and Buddhism, to name just a few, teach that Gifted Memory will arise as we ascend
the evolutionary ladder of consciousness.

Plato (ancient Greece) – The soul then being immortal, having been born again many
times, and having seen all things which exist, whether in this world or the world below,
has knowledge of them all; and it is no wonder that she [the soul] should be able to call
to remembrance all that she ever knew about virtue, and about everything …for all inquiry and
all learning is but recollection.

A. Bronson Alcott (1799-1888, American Transcendentalist writer) – The soul‘s

destiny is to see through the veil – to dispel the oblivious slumber and recover for the
mind recollections of its descent and destiny.

Epes Sargent (1813-1880, American Transcendentalist writer) – The soul is like a

bird that is born in a cage, however, nothing can deprive it of its natural longings, or
obliterate the mysterious remembrance of its heritage.

Chwolson (Middle Eastern Harranites) – God endowed us with an intelligence and

faculty of perceiving so that we can recall that we are strangers down here.

Iranian Gnosticism – My soul, O most splendid one … whither hast thou gone?
Return again. Awake, soul of splendor, from the slumber of drunkenness into which
thou hast fallen … follow me to the place of the exalted earth where thou dwelledst
from the beginning … .

Joseph F. Smith (19th century American Mormon President) – The power of the
Spirit allows us to catch a spark from the awakened memories of the immortal soul,
which lights up our whole being as with the glory of our former home.

Our book, Cosmic Cradle, Souls Waiting in the Wings for Birth, presents accounts of
Gifted Memory in the words of contemporary people, East Indian saints, Tibetan lamas,
Native Americans, ancient Greek philosophers, to name a few. These individuals are
experiencing varying degrees of enlightenment.

Whether or not, they are fully enlightened yet, their gifted memory is at least a glimpse
of our soul‘s journey to human birth. As Buddha pointed out, there are four modes of
human birth. From the most advanced memory of human birth to the lowest:

1. To enter the mother‘s womb fully conscious, stay in the womb with full awareness,
and experience birth consciously. Enlightened masters report all these memories.

2. To enter the mother‘s womb fully conscious, stay in the womb with full awareness,
but lose awareness during birth.

3. To enter the mother‘s womb fully conscious, but lose awareness in the womb and
throughout birth.

4. To enter the mother‘s womb unconsciously and remain unconscious throughout

womb-time and birth. This heavily veiled memory is more typical of most human births.

India is the world‘s spiritual incubator for Enlightened Masters landing on planet Earth.
No where else do we find such a rich heritage of experiences of the superconscious
state. For that reason, we are highlighting in this article the Gifted Memory of Thakur
Anukulchandra, who lived as an enlightened master in India teaching about the highest
spiritual form of human life, as described in Cosmic Cradle.

We first present Thakur Anukulchandra‘s advanced Gifted Memory in which he

observes the entire process of creation, from the prime indivisible point to this widely
evolved vast universe, the Creator and the created both. Next we share cross-cultural
parallels to Thakur Anukulchandra‘s memories. These parallels contain bits and pieces
of his exhaustive mem

Enlightened individuals do not necessarily describe their memories of birth or their

existence before this lifetime since they have all dissolved their egos and prefer to
avoid discussing their private histories. Therefore, we are grateful to Thakur for
inspiring us with one of the most extensive accounts illustrating how much human
memory may encompass. Thakur‘s high state of enlightenment is an important
consideration in the power of his memories. Few enlightened masters seem to share
these memories but more accounts may exist in the untranslated biographies of other
masters.

Thakur Anukulchandra was a renowned Indian guru, physician, and founder of the
Satsang ashram. Anukulchandra set up schools, charitable hospitals, engineering
workshops, a publishing house, and a printing press. He was a prolific writer; noted
among his ninety-four books are Satyanusaran, Punyapunthi, Anushruti, Chalar Sathi,
Shashvati, and Pritibinayak.

Thakur was born in 1888 in the primitive village of Himayitpur where tigers, bears and
poisonous snakes roamed freely in the streets even during the day. The village was
situated on the bank of the river Padma, where crocodiles floated on the surface of
water freely. As a young boy, Thakur used to swim in the River Padma along with the
crocodiles. Very often he went deep to the bottom of River Padma to meditate for a
long period and he never felt discomfort due to cessation of respiration.

From early youth, Thakur frequently became absorbed in melodious songs to the
Almighty. At that time, his body temperature would rise above 110F. He had no pulse.
In that stage of superconsciousness, Thakur felt as if he had been expanded to bear
the whole Universe in Him. He felt responsible for all events happening in the Universe.
He felt his existence among all living entities around him. In that stage of
consciousness, a horse was beaten in front of him and the cane marks on the horse‘s
back appeared distinctly on the back of Thakur.

Cosmic Memory and the Big Bang - Thakur Anukulchandra (1888-1969 India)
I recall how a prime point let itself explode into millions of hyper atoms. Each hyper
atom then burst into millions of supra-hyper atoms resulting in an uncut indivisible
physically inconceivable point. I witnessed that ultimate point - the Cosmic Soul –
create an infinity of beings out of itself like thousands of sparks coming from a fire. The

souls were destined to live through a series of lives so long as they remained subject to
the illusion of personal individuality
Thakur Anukulchandra

From the beginning of Creation until my present life, my ego passed through various
phases prior to being encaged in a living body, last of all human. My chain of human
births includes a cobbler, prince, and spiritual seeker. In the gap between each death
and rebirth, I felt empathy for family members whom I watched grieving for me.

I dwelled in an undefined higher region prior to my present life. My journey to Earth

involved traveling through a yet undiscovered system of celestial constellations. I
traversed a vast distance in space, passing through 44,000 planets. While our planets
rotate around the Sun, I observed that millions of suns rotate around a bigger sun.

I also proceeded through a former planet that had split into pieces, and observed a
planetary system yet to be discovered by science. Still fresh in my memory is the
strange behavior of a unique constellation - a central star surrounded by four other
stars. The four stars appeared red when they approached the central star and turned
blue when they moved away through a principle known to science as the Doppler Effect.

En route to Earth, I stopped at various planets where celestial beings welcomed me

with a grand ovation. Each planet had unique life forms suited to their atmospheres,
unlike, any found on Earth. I felt a pang of separation as the planetary beings chanted
hymns in my praise as I departed from their planet.

I finally arrived in our solar system by coming through a ray of light and descending into
the Sun. I was not burnt to ashes. The Sun‘s interior is very cold; the heat is on its
surface. Just think, I descend from inside the sun by a track. If one takes the track from
here, one would see pitch darkness just on the left and on the right, not right, rather
diagonally he would see light only. He would witness 44,000 planets on the way, one of
which is split into pieces.

Historical Gifted memories from Cosmic Cradle parallel Thakur Anukulchandra‟s

memory of coming from the Source.

Rabbi Moses ben Nahman (1194-1270, Spain) – Leader of Spanish Jewry in the end
of thirteenth century. Not only was he officially the chief rabbi of Aragon and Catalonia,
but he was a well respected leader of Jews everywhere and grew to become the crown
of Western European Jewish scholarship. Today we acknowledge that his great Torá
scholarship, laudable personal life, and incisive analysis of Jewish history.

I was amongst God‘s hidden treasures…from the beginning of time. God called me
forth from ―Nothing.‖ Divine forces then built, nourished, and gave form to my soul. I
remained preserved in the chambers of the King before descending upon Heaven‘s
ladder from the primeval pool of Siloam to Earth.

Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941 India) also known by the sobriquet Gurudev, was a
Bengali poet, Brahmo Samaj philosopher, artist, playwright, novelist, and composer
whose works reshaped Bengali literature and music. He became Asia‘s first Nobel
laureate when he won the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature. He writes:

At the far end of the stage of the world‘s play I stand. Each moment do I see the shore
beyond the darkness where in the vast consciousness of the Unmanifest I once lay
merged.

Guru Gobind Singh (1666-1708, India) - Upon Divine command, Guru Gobind Singh
left a celestial realm to be born during one of India‘s bleakest periods. He was the tenth
and last of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism.

I shall now tell my own history of how God sent me into the world when I was absorbed
in penance on Mount Sapat Shring where King Pandu practiced Yoga and attained
bliss. There I continuously remembered the omniscient power of God and I became
blended with Him.

I had no desire to take human birth. My thoughts were lost in prayer at the Holy Feet of
the Lord. However, the Lord made me understand His Will and inspired me to
undertake the Mission: ―I have appointed you as My son and created you to spread
righteousness and prevent people from committing senseless deeds.‖

I bowed my head and answered, ―I will take birth in the Dark Age of Sin. Bless me with
supreme sustenance.‖ The Lord then ordered me to take birth as Guru Gobind Singh,
the son of a couple who worshipped ―the Unseen One‖ and strove to attain God‘s
Union.

Gerard de Nerval (1808-1855 France) French poet, essayist and translator.

I felt bitterly that I was but a momentary sojourner in that world, that foreign yet
cherished world, and I trembled at the thought that I must return and re-enter life.

Paramahamsa Yogananda (1893-1952, India) the first yoga master of India to take up
permanent residence in the West (1920) and traveled throughout the United States on
his ‗spiritual campaigns‘. Hundreds of thousands came to see the yogi. Yogananda
continued to lecture and write until his passing.

My far-reaching memories are not unique. Many yogis have the ability to retain self-
awareness without interruption during the big sleep of death – the gap between the end
of one life and the beginning of another.

Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi (1207-1273 Persia) –Persian, Muslim poet, jurist, and
theologian.

For a million years I floated in ether, even as the atom floats uncontrolled. If I do not
actually remember that state of mine, I often dream of my atomic travels.

Empedocles (490-430 BC Greece) – Greek pre-Socratic philosopher and a pupil of

Pythagoras. Empedocles‘ philosophy is best known for being the origin of the
cosmogenic theory of the four classical elements.

I am a wanderer exiled from the divine dwelling. I fell down to Earth from my high
estate due to the decree which requires erring souls to wander from their heavenly
home. I have experienced a series of lifetimes for 30,000 seasons: a boy, a girl, a bush,
a bird, and a mute fish in the sea. I wept at being born on Earth once again, the region
of raging discord. I expect to rejoin the immortals following this life.

King Solomon (Old Testament) – The Lord created me the beginning of his works,
before all else that he made. Alone, I was fashioned … long before earth itself.
(Proverbs 8:22-31)

Jeremiah (Old Testament) – Before I formed you in the womb I knew you for my own;
before you were born I consecrated you, I appointed you a prophet to the nations.
(Jeremiah 1:4-5)

Joe Homer (Native American Yuma, 19th-20th century) – I was present at the very
beginning and saw and heard it all.

Anukulchandra‘s memory of coming from the Source and having a divine origin.

Lorenzo Caravella (20th-21st Century U.S.A.) father, teacher, mystic and author of
Mouth of God: Your Cosmic Contract — I recall the pre-existing soul stage prior to
entering my mother‘s womb. Everything was part of the Oneness. Imagine all your
senses just rolled up into one sense of being. You don‘t really hear, see, taste, smell, or
touch. You don‘t do any of those things. Yet everything exists for you. And you are
totally unattached. It is a total unity experience: Tat Twam Asi – ―Thou art this. Thou
are That.‖ I was aware of everyone and everything and everywhere else.

As the pre-existing soul, I saw my whole future life before me. I accepted its lessons,
both the peaks and the valleys. I knew there was going to be some discomfort – and
sure enough, it came along in different shapes and forms – but I did not want to
remember some valleys that I contracted for. So there was forgetfulness on purpose.

In order for the peaks and valleys to be what they were, I needed to be guided through
those energies called parents. So when the selection was made, it was not specifically
that human and that human, but that energy to serve this peak or valley and that
energy to serve this other peak and valley. So I was conceived by a mother with a
compatible nervous system – one that would permit me to grow. That is what the
Cosmic Contract is all about.

Katarina (20th-21st Century U.S.A.), mother of six: I remember a place of pure light,
intermittent between lives where I enjoyed the freedom and movement of being without
a physical body. I used remote-sensing capabilities of the soul instead of the sensual
experiences of hearing, vision, smell, taste, and touch, used in a physical body.

My individuality was barely audible. That is the best way I can describe it. I had a subtle
feeling of myself. All my senses became unified. Everything was one. Yet, there was
still a subtle my-ness, identity, ego, an individuality. I felt the presence of God, of not
being totally one with God, but being in God‘s womb, so to speak. I was aware of other
souls close by. It‘s hard to explain because there was no space and time. Yet there
was still the present, and other souls coming toward and going away from me.

Beverly Anderson (20th- 21st Century U.S.A.) mother, clairaudient, clairvoyant, and
spiritual healer: My continuous conscious memory extends back to the moment when I
was created as an individual spark of God. My soul then became encapsulated in
different human forms, cultures, times, and places in order to learn different lessons of
perception and awareness.

I remember before I left as a spark of God — I remember my spark and Him. And the
profound limitless power of that makes me a little nervous. He is in the major leagues
and we are in the minor leagues. But talent grows, evolves, and matures, and we will
get there, too. But I will be fine doing the minor leagues for a while. I am not ready to do
that format yet. I do not respect it enough. I will, with time, as will all of us.

My lesson plan has been to understand that there is no power but the ―All that is‖ and I
am but a piece of that. Therefore how can I be more proud of myself than anyone else?
How can I be more special than anyone else? Yes, I am unique, but each molecular
structure has a function and a purpose that is to be regarded with the utmost respect.

People often tell me, ―You are so amazing, so special.‖ I say, ―So are you!‖ I thank God
for every soul who comes to me. I learn something from each of them, that I would not
find anywhere else in the universe. So how can anybody tell me that they are more or
less than anyone else? I do not buy that.

I disagree with human categorizing into levels of maturity and worthiness. Does it make
the child who grows up first any more special than the little child who is to come behind
34

him? We are all equally cherished and loved by the Love source. There is no better or
worse soul.

The universe is like a choir. Each soul in the choir has a unique voice, color, range,
talent. Each soul has melodies it enjoys, as well as melodies it dislikes or feels
comfortable singing. But that is okay. God created the whole choir, not just one voice.

So each voice is magnificent in its own way. But we need all the voices to make the
music. So, yes, some are more or less than others. However, what is important is
learning to appreciate and encourage each soul‘s voice, abundance, to manifest. That
is what God is trying to teach us. Until we learn that, we will not be grown up enough to
be little gods. We will be warring with each other and making a mess of the universe.
So we are still children who have much to learn, but we are loved every step of the way.

Parallel II

My journey to Earth involved traveling through a yet undiscovered system of celestial

constellations. I traversed a vast distance in space, passing through 44,000 planets.
While our planets rotate around the Sun, I observed that lakhs of suns rotate around a
bigger sun.
Thakur Anukulchandra

Our earthbound journey emerges from a world of transparent light and timelessness.
Historical Gifted memories from Cosmic Cradle parallel Thakur Anukulchandra‘s
memory of piercing through layers, veils, starry heavens on the soul‘s journey to Earth.

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa (1836-1886), the great Bengali sage, shared his
memories of how he chose his chief disciple prior to their births.

I was reminded of how I had selected Vivekananda while I was deep in ecstatic
meditation one day. My awareness rapidly ascended through every illumined level of
being, plunging toward the Mother Essence, the dazzling darkness of the absolutely
unmanifest, beyond any possible experience.
My consciousness soared high and ascended a luminous path through the world of
gross matter into the subtle world. I transcended the stellar universe, entered the
subtler region of ideas, and witnessed the ideal forms of God.

When my mind reached the outer limits of that region, I encountered a luminous barrier
separating the sphere of relative existence from that of the Absolute realm where form
ceases. Crossing that fence made of light, my mind entered that realm where no
physical form is visible. Even the highest celestial beings kept their seats far below and
dared not peep into that sublime realm.

In the next moment, I saw the seven eternally liberated sages – a constellation of
conscious stars, floating in boundless awareness beyond all heavenly realms. The light
of pure consciousness constituted the bodies of these primordial, genderless stars of
wisdom. They were unsurpassed in knowledge, holiness, renunciation, and love.

35
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

A bolt of radiance meanwhile manifested out of that undifferentiated luminous region

and I condensed into a five-year-old golden boy. I approached Vivekananda, one of
the seven brilliant lights sitting in the lotus posture in a transcendental state of
equipoise. I climbed onto his lap and tenderly clasped his neck with my arms. My touch
roused the venerable Buddha-like figure. Vivekananda gazed upon me with half-open
eyes. I appeared as a flame dancing everywhere around him.

I whispered to Vivekananda: ―I am descending into time. You, too, must come with me.‖
He gazed upon me, and although he remained mute, his beaming countenance
revealed that I was the treasure of his heart.

Vivekananda once again became immersed in ecstasy. Next a fragment of

Vivekananda‘s body and mind, in the form of a bright ray, emanated from his right eye.
As the ray of light descended to Earth, the light pierced each plane of existence like a
needle a needle passing through layers of loosely woven cloth until reaching his birth
home in Calcutta.

Norman Paulsen (1929 - U.S.A.) American mystic and disciple of Paramahamsa

Yogananda. His gifted memory exists in his consciousness as a visual memory recall
with vivid images, sounds, and colors.

I descended toward a bright blue pearl of a Mother Earth. Her waters and land
appeared like a celestial garden floating in the cosmos and drew me like iron to a
magnet. My life energy and love merged with images of clashing waves, torrents of
spray…clouds of mist, slowly settling upon glistening monoliths of stone.

Still searching, I flew East beyond the rolling hills and bright green meadows to a fertile
valley. There a village greeted me and a silent street ran north and south. I watched for
a house facing the rising Sun. Then, a picket fence, an open gate, and a green lawn
sprang out beneath two tall palm trees to welcome him. Indeed, I found the home of the
blind Buddha – my father-to-be.

Charles Paulsen was the newly elected judge of the city and county courts, as well as
an American Buddhist minister. Deprived of earthly vision, Charles walked with a white
cane sensing the ground beneath him. The blind man was stalwart and precise. Using
his acute hearing, he heard the message of the whispering wind and the babbling
brook as he extended his life outward into all beings and images around him. Silently
my spirit approached the blind man by being as quiet as the wind. But like an ocean
wave meeting another wave, our souls could not resist.

He found me standing there on the street in the midst of his life. My spirit-image flashed
before his inner vision; I had startled him. He stopped walking to stand alert in a silent
greeting. Time stood still for him. ―You have finally come to help me, to be my eyes in
the world.‖ explained: ―Long have we been friends and again we meet. My spirit is fixed
upon rebirth here. Our lives must be joined together for a time.‖

36

Charles invited me into his home like any other guest. Although cheerful, Charles
harbored reservations that blindness might accompany me if I was born in his family.
Once Charles overcame his fear, he prayed:

―Man from the North, eyes for two, abide in my house with my wife and me; be my
friend once more. Your name shall be Norman after the blood of our fathers: Nor (the)
man.‖

I answered the blind Buddha‘s call on February 3, 1929, and lost no consciousness in
entering the planetary body of the earth elements.

Macrobius (4th – 5th Century AD Rome) – grammarian and Neoplatonist philosopher.

Souls come to Earth from the region of the fixed stars through the descending portal
located where the Milky Way intersects the zodiac sign of Cancer. As souls descend
from the top of the cosmos to the bottom, Saturn confers reason and understanding,
Jupiter – practicality and morality, Mars – a bold spirit, Venus – passion, Mercury –
eloquence and discrimination, Sun –sense perception and imagination, and the Moon –
ability to procreate and nurture.

Judeo-Christian Tradition (Genesis 28:11-19): The biblical patriarch Jacob

witnessed the ladder between Heaven and Earth:

Jacob left Beersheba, and went toward Haran. And he came to the place and stayed
there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put
it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed that there was a
ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold, the angels
of God were ascending and descending on it!

And behold, the LORD stood above it [or ―beside him‖] and said, ―I am the LORD, the
God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give
to you and to your descendants; and your descendants shall be like the dust of the
earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to
the south; and by you and your descendants shall all the families of the earth bless
themselves. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring
you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done that of which I have
spoken to you.‖

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, ―Surely the LORD is in this place; and I did
not know it.‖ And he was afraid, and said, ―This is none other than the house of God,
and this is the gate of heaven.‖

Our interpretation of Jacob‘s Ladder is that the ladder is the bridge between Heaven
and Earth and these are the angels who escort our souls‘ descent from the heavenly
world to be born on Earth and they also accompany us on our ascent to Heaven after
earthly life.

Sufism – Seventy thousand veils separate the spiritual and physical worlds. Our souls
lose divine attributes as we traverse the first 35,000 veils of light. We then accumulate
earthly qualities in our passage through the next 35,000 veils of darkness.

Katarina (20th – 21st Century U.S.A.) mother of six children.

I traveled through space and time, which literally looked like flashing stars. It is a very
fluid motion of space and time, from death to life and life to death. Obviously I did not
have eyes and ears. I had nothing physical to perceive with. However my senses were
in play. I became one sense. All the senses became one, traveling through space and
time, and coming into the womb. So there was some entity that was myself that had
these tools at its disposal.

Glen Beicker (1929-2005, U.S.A.) a retired military officer raised in Christian religious
background, recalls choosing his parents out of three possible couples. Next he felt
himself enter a huge round tunnel;
I flew down through that tube at a terrific speed. Lights from a narrow light band flashed
by. The lights wrapped all through that tube, like a red stripe on a peppermint candy
cane. The light circle never broke. It went with me. It was dark except for the band of
light. The light was on the outside of the tube and it was transparent, and you were
looking through it, but you weren‘t looking through it, it was just a band of light. The
next thing I knew I was a little boy.

I clearly remember stars whizzing by, but there was no sensation of movement as we
know it as humans. There was no density, no up or down, no left or right, no time, no

comfort and ease. . . . wonderful. I haven‘t a clue as to ―when‖ that was. There was no
time associated with that because there was no space. Space did not mean anything.

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa (1836-1886), enlightened master, India) - At the

time of his chief disciple Vivekananda‘s birth, Ramakrishna saw a shattered ray of
divine energy flash across the sky from Benares to Calcutta where Vivekananda was
being born at the same instant. Ramakrishna jumped in joy and announced, ―My prayer
is answered. You have taken a body for my sake.‖

Plato‟s Republic (Ancient Greece) Greek philosopher Plato pictured creation as three
zones: ethereal, aerial, and material. He said the soul‘s journey to Earth begins in the
ethereal universe, its birthplace.

At the end of Plato‘s Republic (~400-300 BC), a warrior named Er, who ―died‖ in battle,
observed a towering band of light resembling a rainbow, only brighter and purer. It
seemed to be a passageway by which souls journey back and forth to Earth. Most
western scholars, who lack insights from the discoveries about near-death experiences
(NDEs), tend to interpret Er‘s experience as merely an allegory, yet it offers striking
parallels to modern NDE accounts being reported by thousands of people.

As recorded in Plato‘s Republic, the warrior Er reentered his body after a twelve-day
NDE and reported the following:

Once I regained consciousness, I related the story of the soul‘s 1,000 year journey
between one human life and the next. My near-death episode began in the region
where individuals who had just completed their earthly lives experience a life review. I
watched as judges overseeing the process sent mature souls to Heaven; whereas
souls who lived at cross-purposes with universal law went to a nasty underground
prison (Tartarus), there to pay their penalty.

Like the rest, I took my turn to stand before the judges; they surprised me and advised:
―Er, you are not here for judgment. You have come as Earth‘s messenger and must
return to mankind to tell them of the other world.‖

My assigned task began in a great meadow where I mingled with a gathering of souls
like a festival crowd. For seven days, I listened closely as souls recounted experiences
taking place over the past one thousand years: the shining souls related beautiful
visions of Heaven, whereas soul dwellers from the underworld, who were still covered
with dust and grime, wept as they related all that they had suffered.

I then observed how this entire company of souls prepared for another human birth. To
begin with, I ascended with them through a heavenly gate and traveled to the outer rim
of the sky. We eventually reached a luminous column stretching through Heaven and
Earth, the axis of the cosmos by which the universe revolves. This cosmic pillar, a
towering band of light, resembled a rainbow, only brighter and purer.

Within this scene, both the souls who had spent 1,000 years in the heavens or in
Tartarus [Hell], began preparing for their next lifetimes. First, souls leisurely previewed
a set of tablets inscribed with life patterns of every living creature and condition. The

39
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

total number of scripts available exceeded the number of souls in the assembly so that
everyone had the opportunity to choose a good life.

Before the souls picked out the cosmic contracts which pleased them most, an
overseer threw lot numbers amongst the assembly. The number the soul picked up
determined the order in the queue for selecting a new life. Number one had the first
choice, and so forth, according to the numbers held, until all had chosen.

The overseer next warned, ―You are free to choose and will be held responsible for
your choice. Let not the first choose carelessly, nor the last give up hope. Even the last
soul to pick a cosmic contract will find a tolerable life lying here, if he chooses with
intelligence.‖

I noted that some souls selected conditions of their next life more wisely, and others
less wisely. Pleasurable lives easily tempted less mature souls. Young souls blindly
grabbed cosmic contracts without examining the fine print such as — great wealth
followed by bankruptcy, or years of sensual pleasure followed by years of pain.

Dispositions formed in previous lives definitely influenced the soul‘s preference. The
first soul in line illustrates this principle. He settled upon the life of an absolute dictator.
Having made a hasty decision, he noticed that he was fated to eat his children, among
other evils. He beat his breast, blaming God, the stars - everyone except himself. In
this case, he had been virtuous in a previous life, yet his virtue had been merely
―customary‖ without foundation upon consciously realized principle.

Wiser souls took time to contemplate previous experiences before making a decision.
Souls who had suffered in Tartarus, on the average, seemed to plan more wisely than
souls coming down from Heaven.

Odysseus, the clever king of Ithaca, serves as another prime illustration. Although
Odysseus had emerged victorious in battle after suggesting the stratagem of the Trojan
Horse, he encountered obstacles in returning to Greece following the Trojan War.
Odysseus wandered with his men from place to place for an entire decade. They had
countless adventures: the sorceress Circe turned them into swine; they nearly
succumbed to the temptations of the land of the Lotus-Eaters and the insidious song of
the Sirens; they barely survived the dangers of the passage between Scylla and
Charybdis; and they encountered the fearsome one-eyed giant Polyphemus.

I observed how Odysseus reflected upon the hollowness and uncertainty of fame, the
batterings of endless journeys, and treacherous adventures. This time he decided to
look for an easier lot with less heartache and tragedy. Sure enough, he picked up the
cosmic contract for a quiet man‘s life, the one that had been rejected by the other souls.
Although Odysseus happened to be the last to make a choice, he said, ―I would have
done the same even if I had drawn the first lot.‖

In another instance, Orpheus recalled how he had been murdered by a woman in his
previous life. As a consequence, Orpheus‘ hatred of women influenced his decision to
be reborn as a swan rather than entering a woman‘s womb.
40

Besides humans choosing to pass into animals in the next life, I even noted that
animals changed into one another and into humans.

I witnessed one final step prior to the take off spot for the return journey to Earth. I
marched with the assembly of souls through a burning heat and frost across the Plain
of Lethe. At last, when we arrived at the River of Forgetfulness, some of us felt
compelled to satisfy their thirst. Foolish souls drank more than the rest. The more they
drank, the deeper they slept - and the more they forgot of their divine heritage.

Unlike the rest, I chose to forgo the waters of Lethe in order to remember all that I had
seen and heard. I remained wide awake at midnight to witness a lightning and quaking
of the universe to awaken the souls, propelling them to the waiting wombs of their
earthly mothers - leaping upward like shooting stars.

Twelve days had passed since I had ―died‖ on the battleground. Yet before I knew it, I
had opened my eyes and found himself on the funeral pyre, not knowing by what
means I had gone in and out of my body.

Novelist, playwright, and politician, who coined such phrases as ―pursuit of the almighty

My soul descended into its dark sarcophagus from its eternal, star-like sphere.

Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882, USA) essayist, poet, and leader of the American
Transcendentalist movement.

The human soul is a ray from the source of light which comes into the human body, as
into a temporary abode.

Paramahamsa Sri Nithyananda (1978 - , Tiruvannamalai, India), an enlightened

master and modern mystic, was in a state of complete awareness on his journey into
his physical body.

Nithyananda described his birth process on January 1, 1978 as a sequence of three

scenes, of three kshana. (Kshana is a measure of time. The Hindu concept of time is
not chronological, measured by the movement of a pendulum. Kshana is the time
between two thoughts and varies individually based on state of consciousness.)

The first scene was one of perceiving a light, a flame that emanated from some place in
South India. The second scene was himself, the energy, floating into that light. The
third scene was conscious awareness of Arunachala, the place, the mountain, and the
deity at Tiruvannamalia. He knew he had arrived.

It was neither dark nor light-filled; an independent color covered planet Earth. Suddenly
a bright and brilliant light appeared from a region, which I now see as Southern India. I
41
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

entered into that light in the form of a brilliant meteor. An explosion of light occurred.
The very next sight that I perceived with my inner eye was Arunachala, and I knew that
I had assumed the body once more; I had entered the womb of my mother.

It was a conscious birth. I entered into the body at 11:45 pm. Within 45 minutes I was
fully aware of being in my body. I was conscious of all that was happening around me.
It was a joyful experience.

Nithyananda was born on January 1, 1978 at 32 minutes past midnight in

Tiruvannamalai in South India. According to his parents, he never cried at birth; his
spirit was so relaxed and comfortable, the doctor had to tap the baby to make sure it
was alive. There was no pain in the birth to the Being.

Gifted memories from a Cosmic Cradle interview parallel Thakur Anukulchandra‘s

memory of coming in as a ray of light.

Beverly Anderson (20th – 21st Century U.S.A.) mother, clairaudient, clairvoyant, and
spiritual healer.

I recall previous lives. And I remember the in-betweens (the heavenly life between each
earthly life). They are just as tangible as earthly lives. They are another form of being
that is not squashed together in such a small package. Because when you are ―there‖
and not currently occupying a shell, a package — we do not lose or change anything
about ourselves except our fear. Fear is a function of survival incorporated in the
humanness of our bodies

To ask, ―How do I remember?‖ is like asking, ―How do I breathe?‖ There is no

difference. There is no stop in time and space for me. And the veil is not really there. It
is our brain‘s perceiving the veil as existing that cuts us off from our superconscious
memory, our true higher self — other than the little piece of us here that we are trying
to school right now. So I don‘t like the phrase ―the other side of the veil‖ because there
is no veil. Heaven is simply there and our minds obscure it. Our mind is designed to
sense sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch, and is so preoccupied with maintaining and
protecting the body, that it tends to be a good cap on accessing collective
consciousness.

My continuous conscious memory extends back to the moment when I was created as
an individual spark of God. I remember when God initially spun me on my merry way
and said: ―Have a good time. Come back when you are all done.‖ My journey began at
the Source.

It is difficult to verbalize what happened when my soul became individuated. I

remember coming from the ―All That Is,‖ as a projectile of light. I remember being spat
out, pushed out like a projectile and I was screaming through the universe as a spark of
light, like a little star. I knew that I was going somewhere, but I did not know where.
There was no fear, just a feeling of sheer exhilaration. I clearly remember stars
whizzing by, but there was no sensation of movement as we know it as humans. There

was no density, no up or down, no left or right, no time, no sensations of colors, sound,

I haven‘t a clue as to ―when‖ that was. There was no time associated with that because
there was no space. Space did not mean anything. You just were. So that is the best
human description I can give.

Conclusion

Since the earliest recorded times, the image of the human soul as a traveler, a
sojourner in a foreign land, or the wandering heir to a forgotten inheritance, appears in
various religious texts, philosophical discourses, poetry, and tribal legends. Age after
age, the same idea repeats itself: we pre-exist as superconscious beings in a world
existing out of sight.

As we see from previous examples, Gifted Memory of the soul‘s pre-earthly home and
journey to Earth answers questions about life prior to conception: what kind of life is it
compared to the life we know here? Was our soul merged with God? Did we dwell in
the sky, the Earth, or in a world of light? Reports vary according to cultural background,
yet they all portray preconception in glowing terms.

The phenomenon of Gifted Memory validates that we are spiritual beings having a
human experience in the physical body and not simply human beings having a physical
experience. Individuals who share their Gifted Memories are blessed messengers of a
higher reality . . . no matter whether these individuals provide complete reports or
glimpses.

Whereas we find accounts of Gifted Memory scattered throughout diverse cultures on

earth, no where is Gifted Memory and the superconscious state experienced and
described more fully as it is in India. It is unfortunate that western psychology has
ignored this inner dimension of our being and chose to heavily focus on abnormal
psychological states of unenlightened people. In some cases, psychology has brushed
aside reports of higher consciousness as mental disorders.

The great Western psychologist Carl Jung visited India and had made an appointment
to meet sage Ramana Maharshi. In his diary Jung explains that he cancelled meeting
the enlightened sage the night before. Jung said he feared all his vested interests in his
understanding of human psychology would be proved to be a lie. Jung had no courage.
Imagine what evolutionary direction he could have taken Western culture if he had not
acted like a politician.

Gifted Memory is another way the enlightened beings inspire us to go beyond our
limited body/mind and experience the superconsciousness of who we really are. We
will never solve the problems of humanity if we do not have knowledge of higher states
of consciousness and how to reproduce them. As the 2nd century Gnostic Theodotus
advises: – ―What liberates is the knowledge of who we were…where we were,
whereinto we have been thrown; whereto we speed…what birth is, and what rebirth.‖

How does the soul travel to the physical dimension?
What events happen when our soul is preparing for human birth, when we are in
the mother‘s womb, when we take our first breath?
Why do we forget our spiritual nature? What techniques help us remember our
true nature?

Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

Excerpts from Satyanusaran (The Pursuit of Truth) written in

his own hand by Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra, as messages
for guidance in 1910 AD
Lucknow, India

It is better to die at toil than on the toilet.

He who speaks less and does more is a first class worker. He who does as he speaks
is a second class worker. He who speaks more but does less is a third class worker,
and he who, out of laziness, neither speaks nor does is of the worst type.
Run, but don‘t pant, and watch you don‘t stumble.
Should you feel aversion or anger in doing any work, know for sure, it is on the verge of
failure.
Be ready against the difficulties that arise at the time of executing a work. Don‘t be
dissatisfied or impatient. Success will be your servant.
Try and don‘t be gloomy; don‘t be sorrowful! Success must come!
Delirium of distress is not a sign of the skilful.
Haughty brain and vain, pompous thoughts are both signs of unsuccess.
Gain success by avoiding or defeating misfortune, and see that difficulties do not cheat
you of success.
If neither joy nor sorrow hinders your movement, you shall without doubt reach your
goal.

Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra (A short life sketch)

S.P. Chakraborty
New Delhi, India

When virtue fails and life cries out for rescue, the Supreme Being descends upon this
earth to show humans the way of life. Today there are conflicts among people,
provinces, countries, religions and castes.

Also there are conflicts between husband and wife, father and son, mother and
daughters and among neighbors. In such an atmosphere Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra
comes with a message of love, unity harmony

Sri Sri Thakur was born on 14th September, 1888 at Himaitpur, in the district of Pabna,
East Bengal (now in Bangladesh) in a Barendra Brahmin family. His father‘s name was
Sri Shib Chandra Chakraborty and mother‘s name was Monomohini Debi. Shib
Chandra worked as a manager in a zamindari estate. He was a very honest man.
Mother Monomohini Debi was a pious and spirited woman, whose influence on the life
of Anukulchandra was enormous. Both of them were highly cultured and devout in the
true sense of the term. They were kind-hearted and always responsive to the needs of
the environment. When she was merely a girl, Monomohini Debi got the Sat mantra
(Holy Name) in a dream, and afterwards she initiated her son Anukulchandra in that
Holy Name. After initiation He told His mother that this Holy Name was nothing new to
Him. He had been repeating the same Name even when He was in her womb. In fact
He Himself was the embodiment of the Holy Name, because Name and embodiment of
the Name are the same.

At the time when Anukulchandra started to attend school, Mother Monomohini Debi
blessed her son with a poem of four lines in Bengali:

―When you see a man poor

Be humble and open your door,
You are a friend indeed—he may feel sure,
With careful eyes, his pains do cure.‖

In His school-life Anukulchandra tried His best to remove any want or complaint of His
classmates. He even used to give away His clothes to the needy. To His classmates
He was Rajabhai (King-brother). After finishing his school education He got Himself
admitted to the National Medical College in Kolkata and later began practicing as a
physician in His native village.

Returning there from Kolkata, he found that villagers were engaged in scandal
mongering, slandering and harming one another. Stealing, robbery and kidnapping of
women were almost daily events. He was very much shocked at what was taking place.
He understood then and there that He had to cure not only the physical diseases but
also drive away their mental ailments. He formed a Kirtan party with His own villagers
and inspired others to form such groups. He Himself used to compose songs for those
Kirtan groups. Gradually such kirtan groups were formed in many villages and there
61

were wholesome competitions amongst them. In this way the atmosphere of the
villages began to change.

There occurred many miracles in His life from His very boyhood. The Holy Name would
always spontaneously vibrate within Him. Light of different colors radiated from His
Body and He often lost His consciousness which people took to be a kind of ailment.
After taking part in the kirtan He would go into a deep trance. The wicked people
thought it was pretence and would prick needles, apply red-hot charcoal on His body to
test Him. But they found no response. Even the throbbing of His heart would remain
suspended at times. During His trance He could speak fluently in different languages.
Some of these sayings were recorded and published in ‗Punyapunthi‘ (Holy Book) in
Bengali. He was the embodiment of the precept--‗Do unto others as you wish to be
done by‘.

Young Anukulchandra won the hearts of the people through His sincere service,
sympathy and love. He would spare no pains to meet their wants and remove their
sorrows. People would come from different remote places and gather around Him at
His house in Himaitpur. They began to call Him ‗Thakur‘. Anukulchandra protested
vehemently, but they were adamant. Later Anukulchandra once Himself said-- ‗I was all
alone, people did not know me. But I loved people and they also love me. I found
Kishori (Kishori Mohan Das). People knew him to be a very unconventional type of man.
But I found that he had a little bit of genuine yearning for God. I used to compose songs
for him and often talked of Thakur Haranath with him. Gradually he developed a great
regard for him. In course of time that regard crystallized around me and he adhered to
me firmly. Ananta (Maharaj Ananta Nath Roy) was the compounder of Dr. Basanta
Babu (Choudhury). He used to meditate and was a seeker of truth. He also enjoyed my
company intensely. They were my hands. Work started with these two. At that time the
impossible was rendered possible by the aid of these ordinary hands. ….Out of a keen
maddening urge born of deep devotion and faith Kishori and Maharaj worked wonders.
The supreme Father has always kept open the possibilities of achieving and
materializing the impossible through courage and conviction…‘

Gradually a small unknown village turned into a thickly populated town. As He loved
people deeply and sincerely, thousands became His own. He says that man, and not
money is one‘s asset, so we should always try to win the hearts of people.

Once a devotee had to go to a distant place for his job. He requested from Thakur
some instructions which would guide him in his daily life. So it happened that at the age
of twenty-two Thakur wrote down some wise sayings for him within one night. These
sayings have been printed in a book known as ‗Satyanusaran‘ (The Pursuit of Truth). In
this book He said, ‗The degeneration of humanity began at the moment when the
unseen God was made infinite, and, ignoring the Seers, the worship of their sayings
began. Oh Mankind! If you desire to invoke your good, forget sectarian conflict. Be
regardful to all the past Prophets. Be attached to your living Master or God and accept
only those who love Him as your own, because all the past Prophets are consummated
in the divine Man of the present‘.

62

He gave many dictations in verse and prose, in Bengali, English and Hindi. Nearly one
hundred books of His sayings have been printed. His sayings in Bengali have enriched
Bengali literature. He coined many new words in Bengali. There is hardly any aspect of
life or any problem in the world for which He has not given correct solutions. His
dictations have included the topics of Dharma, Politics, Economics, Agriculture,
Industry, Commerce, Education, Culture, Conducts, Behavior, Science, Eugenics,
Marriage, Socialism, Capitalism, Communism and so on. He observed that ‗The source
of all ‗isms‘ is existentialism, no existence, no ism.‘ He had no so-called university
degree; His sayings came from His direct perception and experience. He said, ―If you
are good yourself, thousands of people will become good seeing your example. If you
are bad, you will find no one to sympathize with you in your distress, because being
bad, you have made your environment bad.‖ He also warned us all by saying—―Know
this for certain: you are responsible for the present and future of yourself, your family,
your environment and your country.‖

His ‗Tirobhav‘ took place on the 27th January, 1969. Throughout His life Sri Sri Thakur
Anukulchandra has asserted, illustrated and demonstrated that God is one, Dharma is
one and all Prophets are the same. His life and teachings have normally promoted
mutual understanding and amity. He has described the specific characteristics of true
prophets or Ideals. He said that all-fulfillingness and nurturing of distinctiveness are the
twin signs of their genuineness. So under their guidance international tensions,
communalism, provincialism, parochialism, mutual hatred, discord and other
disintegrating forces are sure to be eliminated, of course, if people choose to apply the
Ideal‘s principles in life. He gave the most universal, scientific and rational interpretation
of Dharma, showing how it operates as the most progressive force in the world,
combining all the benefits of the realms of matter and spirit which are basically
inseparable. He lovingly beckoned us to the materialization of the dream of a united
world without impairing the distinctive existential traits and traditions of individual
nations.

He has explained in detail how we can grow in spiritual life through the daily practice of
prayer, repetition of Name, meditation, propagation of the Lord‘s message, devout
offering, self-analysis, self-corrections, formation of good habits and devotion to
existential culture and tradition and thus to imbibe the character and conduct of the
Lord and resist evil. He never failed to draw our attention to the fundamental fact that
life is fruitful to the extent that it is dedicated to the realization and manifestation of the
divine in the concrete details of our day to day life. And there lies the culmination of the
human personality.

In Sri Sri Thakur‘s view—‗Love is the deepest drive of our life. Our destiny is
determined by the centre, where we place our love. We gradually come to be what we
love. If our love is rooted in a divinely inspired living Ideal, our life is normally
transformed and we proceed to the progressive realization of the divine. This
concentric love eventually universalises itself and becomes all-pervading and all-
absorbing. This consummation cannot be achieved, if our love is not unrepelling,
unexpectant, unselfish and unconditional. Moreover our love must find expression in a
valorous active urge to fulfill the wishes of the Ideal and establish Him in the
environment. Infusing the Ideal in the environment is the best form of the service that
63
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

we can render to society, because that awakens the divine in man and extinguishes the
furnace of afflictions, born of human ignorance and passionate obsessions and
cravings. Our love automatically impels us to imbibe the character of the Beloved
through active effort and exertion and thus lovely qualities flourish most vigorously in us
according to our own characteristics. So love can work miracles… As regards the law,
He emphasized that the prime object of politics is to protect, nurture and fulfill the
existence of all with due attention to individual distinctiveness, equitable distribution
and mutual fellow-feeling. The individual should be developed along with his
environment on an existential basis. And this presupposes the need for adherence to
the Ideal. The laws should be framed in harmony with cosmic laws so that they may
serve the being and becoming of people. Any error in legislation may lead to disaster.
So Seers should be consulted in this matter.

Sri Sri Thakur says—―Formation of a unified, consistent character is the most important
thing in a man‘s life.‖ In order to give shape to a desirable character we must follow the
right codes of conduct in every detail. Our conduct must reflect the highest principles
even in trifles. There must be uniformity in the entire run of our life. If there is
incongruity between our public and private life, it will lead to disintegration of
personality and we shall not be able to maintain moral excellence in our transactions
with others, though we may consciously strive to do so. In other words we shall defeat
our own purpose. In fact whatever a man does reveals the sum-total of the inner man in
him at every step. So a thorough transformation of personality is what is needed. To
achieve this consummation, we must be concentric to an integrated personality—a
living Ideal with unswerving tenacious active adherence. That is the foundation of a
glorious life. Our conduct, to be fruitful, must be in harmony with the living Ideal, whose
whole being constantly and habitually manifests existential principles in all His thoughts,
words, deeds, and expressions. He is the greatest exemplar, who shows, how to
promote the life and growth of oneself along with those of the environment at one and
the same stroke. All our behavior must be judiciously directed to that end. The
universal principle of conduct laid down by Sri Sri Thakur may be summed up in a few
words—―Do unto others, as you wish to be done by‖ We must make vigorous and
persistent efforts to put this saying into practice. We should also be alert to resist evil
without harboring any ill feeling towards the evil doer. We must rectify and remove the
evils lying within us; otherwise the resistance offered by us will not have its due effect.

Regarding character and conduct, Sri Sri Thakur‘s view is that—―character is the
resultant of thoughts, words, deeds and motives and it displays itself in our habits and
behavior‖. There is nothing accidental in life. Whatever we do has a cause behind it
and all our doings in their turn produce a chain of consequences. They leave an
indelible impression on our brain, mind and nervous system and affect our character
correspondingly. In fact, our own actions make or mar our character. And character
builds our destiny. So we must be very careful about how we act or behave. If we
surrender ourselves to the servility of passions instead of employing them in the service
of existential uplift, our life will be miserable. Due to passionate leanings and
obsessions, we cannot often distinguish between good and evil. As a result, despite our
sincere endeavor, we fail in our power of discrimination. Here also comes the absolute
necessity of accepting and following a living Ideal with unflinching devotion, allegiance
and active service. Unquestioning, energetic adherence and compliance to Him
64
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

constitute the corner stone of success in life. That inevitably leads to the development
of a harmonious, grand and glorious character, which is the prime objective of human
life. Sri Sri Thakur is never in favor of suppression and repression of natural urges.
What He emphasizes is their transformation and sublimation, which can be achieved
through volitional zeal for fulfilling the living Ideal. Moreover He wants us to bestow the
supreme bliss of a concentric life on all and unite and integrate them on an existential
basis. He exhorts us to transmute evil into good, disease into health, ignorance into
knowledge, poverty into wealth, depravity into divinity, decay into growth and death into
life with patience, forbearance and perseverance. That is His clarion call. In our
behavior, he urges us to be non-egoistic, cordial, loving, appeasing, untussling,
unobtrusive, tactful, intelligent, elating, exalting, compassionate, soothing and
serviceable, so that friendliness may flourish on earth and we may enjoy heavenly
happiness on this mortal plane.

We must always remember that human civilization is a matter of gradual evolution

containing the cumulative effect of the efforts of countless generations. The past is not
all dead and gone but it is a living force that continues to mould and influence the
present. In fact, the present is born out of the past and the future will grow out of what
has already passed and is currently passing. So, man in his onward march towards
progress cannot afford to break his ties with the past. He has to consciously maintain
the existential attainment of his forbears and build on the foundation already
established. Otherwise progressive development will be impossible and man will
eventually sink into a state of anarchy and barbarism. So we must zealously guard the
precious inheritance from our forefathers and transmit it to our descendants in an
untarnished way, we should seek to enrich it. Culture, tradition, biological and social
structure, scientific classification, occupational grouping of individuals according to
distinctive hereditary instincts and traits, excellence of genetic wealth in the shape of
highly exalted transmissible human qualities are some of the invaluable legacies we
have received from our ancestors. If these are to be preserved and perpetuated with an
eye to further unfoldment, then compatible marriage, happy conjugal relations, eugenic
and genetic adjustments are indispensable necessities.

On our way to advancement, we should be very cautious about the snares of the
complexes, which lead us to deviation. They can be successfully combated only when
we mould them out of love for the Ideal. We must remember that all growth must be
towards God; otherwise it is meaningless and often detrimental. If humanity is to be
saved, we must obediently follow the dictates of science and laws of providence in
relation to marriage, eugenics, Varnashram, employment, occupation, class-
collaboration, adherence to existential custom, culture and tradition, eternalisation and
enhancement of distinct, specific, achieved instincts and attributes, continuity of
heredity, acquisition of efficiency, concentric adjustment of complexes, chastity of
woman, compatible combination of sperm and ovum etc. These principles are of
supreme importance to us and compliance with them is imperative. If we thoughtlessly
and willfully venture to neglect them, we shall be laying the foundation of our own ruin.
Even if we violate them out of ignorance, nature will not excuse us on that score. We
must get acquainted with the laws of life and growth and abide by them with unflinching
devotion. Sri Sri Thakur has emphatically declared that marriage-relationship is eternal
and sounded a grim note of warning against divorce, hypogamy and all forms of
65
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

undesirable marriage, describing their consequences with scientific proof. If we are to

get rid of the agonizing problems of the modern world arising from the pursuit of
incomplete views of life, we should waste no time in availing ourselves of the infinite
bounties of the Divine, revealing truth in its totality, embracing and encompassing all
aspects of life in its widest sweep.

Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra was deeply interested in life—life in its varied
manifestations and multifarious phases. He was not a believer in a fragmentary
approach to the problems of life. To Him all problems of life were interconnected and
interlinked, demanding an all-comprehensive, coordinated tackling and an integrated,
rational solution. That is what He had been accomplishing throughout His whole life.
His life was not a life of seclusion from society but he was ever connected with the joys,
sorrows and sufferings of millions of souls. He had a very intimate acquaintance with
the day-to-day problems confronting individuals. And in course of alleviating their
distress and removing their deficiency, he had been enunciating the principles of life in
response to the needs of the environment on the basis of his direct realization of the
ultimate truth.

Regarding education, Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra said that if it had to be productive
and effective, it should aim at formation of the right type of concentric habits and
behavior, unfoldment of distinctive traits and faculties, disciplining of intellect and
powers of reasoning, broadening and deepening of feeling, sympathy, sentiment and
interest, cultivation of inquisitiveness and a creative research-spirit, unfurlment of
efficiency, active skill and constructive ability, inculcation of a genuine desire for perfect
conception and thorough execution, improvement of knowledge and wisdom, fostering
of self-control, self-denial and selfless service and development of a consistent
character and an integrated, complete personality. He greatly stressed upon the
conduct and character of parents and teachers, because youngsters unconsciously and
involuntarily imbibe what elders actually practice in daily life and not what they teach.
Sri Sri Thakur exhorted us to kindle our volitional urge to serve people in the way best
suited to our temperamental ability, so that we may prosper economically. He
emphasized the importance of judicious agriculture, industry, business and commerce
for the enhancement of the capacity for independent earning without taking recourse to
exploitation and dishonesty. He warned us against extravagance, unnecessary luxury
and borrowing. He has dived deep into the mysteries of life with His divine introspection
and spontaneity of love and service. His wisdom shines forth with the illuminating
facets of His manifold experiences out of His spontaneous urge to serve humanity at
large. He established Tapovan Vidalaya—High School for girls and boys, a Science
College, a Science Research Laboratory—Viswa-Vijnan Kendra, Mechanical Works,
Chemical Works, a Press, an Art Centre, and Permanent Stage for Theatre, different
Cottage Industries, Electricity supply service and so on. Development of the individual,
improvement of the village and thereby the development of the country went on.
Deshbandhu C.R. Das was attracted by this man–making and village-developing plan
of Sri Sri Thakur and became His disciple. Mahatma Gandhi was very much impressed
to see these works of development at the Ashram, at Deoghar.

Lastly to quote a significant remark of Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra with regard to His
own answers to the quest of different seekers—
66
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

―I have answered to thy quest

what I see, what I think
and what I know
to be beneficial
to our life and growth
with every blazing outspoken reply
as far as I conceive.‖

In fact all the utterances of Sri Sri Thakur are based on the solid foundation of His
firsthand personal experiences and realizations and as such these unembellished bare
expressions of truth go straight into the heart of people and set them thinking. The
sayings are highly charged with the vibrant spirit of His soul, which constantly yearn for
the all-around welfare and well-being of every being that exists. That is why they are so
effective in quickening and kindling a keen genuine desire in man for acquiring
concentric self-adjustment which is the sole supreme source of all blessings in life. Let
us read and re-read His sayings and live and exemplify the magnificent truths
embedded therein. Only then can we fulfill the great mission of human life and achieve
the grand and glorious goal, destined for humanity.

Why so partial?
Reet Dipti Dhakal
UT, US

Oh Thakur, my Saviour!
I have always loved you,
But only in words and heart,
Never through deeds!
For this is not real love,
As you yourself say!
But you love me
Not in words, but in deeds!
Makes me wonder,
Do I have any special charm!
I know you love me,
Like a lover loves his only Love!
So selfishly, only me.
There are so many pained out there.
They still suffer.
I can see their pain and my joy!
I know they love you, more than I do.
But still, I get the love.
I wonder what the secret is!
I am so confident you will always love me,
No matter what I do
Why am I confident?
Oh God, Oh my Thakur
This makes me fearful.
Are you really impartial?
My faith tells
You are The Almighty!
You are The Saviour!
You are Joy!
You listen to everyone!
I would love to hear you
Say to me someday,
That you really are impartial!
Please, Oh my Thakur,
Help me reduce the distance between us,
For I am not able to hear you clearly today!
With this dream, I bow to you,
Oh my Father, Oh my Thakur!

MAKE HASTE
by Gisela Lichtgarn
CT,US

Make haste while there is time

To speak and do and think of things eternal.
The reaper comes when we‘re asleep or unaware—
Unlike the yogi, ever awake, aware.

Life‘s short.
That glorious thought of
Unconditional, embodied, everlasting, universal Love
Illumines and expands, uplifts;
Joy once again can glow and brighten our day.
Let faith believe that this is so.
Faith that can gladden gloom,
Remove all doubt, all fear and pride
And limiting conceptions of the mind.

The illumined heart/mind shineth brightly

And dispels with certainty all things
Against expansion, life and growth,
Leaving a luminous trail of happiness and truth
Wherever it goes.

WITH MY LIFE CENTERED ON YOU

David Lichtgarn (02-17-03)
CT,US

With my life centered on You,

all my life takes on meaning.
The habits I form are for existence and make life sweet and worth living.

Where others give up in boredom or despair,

I keep on moving for I know that You care.
The secret of life is silent like a star.
It is to live for the Beloved
And Your purity not mar.

The more all actions are ligared to You,

The more I am up and doing the less I am blue.
There‘s Shakti – that is power – in caring about You
This is the missing secret, the heavenly clue.

Where others falter, give up and lie by the side,

I keep on progressing for You are my pride.
I always stay steady, my habits are firm,
for I know You like stability and the ability to learn.

Expansion and becoming, growth and delight,

these fine experiences have all replaced my fright.
I am able to be just humble old me;
I work and I struggle as busy as a bee.

You allow me to just be myself and experience being;

there‘s no need for pretense for I know You are All-Seeing.
From genuineness real growth is possible and expansion is mine;
I finally get what You mean by becoming: it‘s something Divine.

Onward and upward my life is like a flame.

My faith, it has crested in repeating the Name.
Fame, fortune and honor, they no longer are a lure.
For I want only shelter at Your feet and for that to be pure.

70
Souvenir on 119th Birth Anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur

I kiss this life and hug it for here all is bright.

In your Heavenly shelter, I‘ve at last seen the light.
No longer will I stay alone and weep and then wail.
In Your boat I‘m traveling and You have unfurled the sail.
The tricks of the tamas, the passions all fail
For I run to You rapidly and they are left behind like a snail.

They don’t know when how much to dis-invest;
Even top financial advisors often show an error in judgement
Technical studies and tools are hard to grasp and are not full proof
Fundamentals are even more difficult to understand and when a ratio shows
an opportunity, the same poses a threat because “market is supposed to
know every thing”

AimRS uses algorithms that will tell you “When to Buy”, “When to Sell”, “How much to Buy”
and “How much to Sell” for your investment on a fixed interval automatically while
safeguarding your resources.
Once you have AimRS – you may never have to bring in any new capital to manage the existing
one.
