CULTURAL ASSIMILATION
Assimilation is the term sociologists use to describe the way that immigrants are incorporated
into the society they move to. Assimilation has been
used in different ways. In some senses, it refers to the
different cultural and ethnic characteristics that
immigrants bring to a society. But it can also refer to
the ways that immigrants are expected to adopt the
culture and characteristics of the dominant society.
Cultural isolation is the separation from larger cultural group in groups proximity.
The isolated group does not participate in the cultural conditioning beliefs or
activities of the larger group
Cultural isolation is the term for a country or region that does not care to interact with,
understand or empathize with cultures outside its borders. Americans have been accused of
cultural isolation, because some Americans have not studied or learned languages other than
American English and seem content to know very little about other countries.
Amish live in small rural communities where strong
family and social ties allow them their own distinctive
and separate way of life. The family is the heart of Amish
community, individual identity and spiritual life.
Individual level:
A socialized individual when enters or joins a new group having different cultural
patterns, he or she has to adopt new patterns of values, habits, customs and beliefs
of the other group in order to be fully accepted by the new group.
Group level:
When two groups with dissimilar patterns of behavior come in close contact, they
inevitably affect each other. In this process, it is generally seen that the weaker
group would do more of the borrowing from and would give very little to the
stronger group.
Culture level:
When two cultures merge to produce a third culture which, while somewhat distinct,
has features of both merging cultures.
SUMMARY:
Simply understanding, assimilation or cultural assimilation the original culture is replaced
with the new one
