Assignment 3.1 System Configuration

The document compares three computer system configurations: large computer systems, stand-alone computers, and network computing systems. Large computer systems have centralized data storage and easy access/correction but are vulnerable if the central processors fail. Stand-alone computers have low data breach risk if individual computers fail but are difficult to monitor and update collectively. Network systems allow information sharing but risk entire system failure if the main server breaks down or malware spreads between connected computers.

Assignment 3.

1 System Configuration
Large-Computer System

Advantages:
1. Processes and data are centralized, thus accessing data needed and correcting
information is easy
2. Monitoring the activities on every computer is effortless.

Disadvantages:
1. Since data is stored in central processors, once those central processors got
damaged, every computer connected to it is affected.
2. Risks in data security are high, for data is stored in one place only.

Stand-Alone Computer

Advantages:
1. Risk of a data breach is low for data are stored in many and different computers.
2. If one computer is damaged, the others will not be affected.

Disadvantages:
1. Monitoring is difficult and time-consuming, for each computer should be monitored
one by one.
2. Hard to keep data up-to-date.

Network Computing System

Advantages:
1. Sharing of information or data between different users is available.
2. Data entry, retrieval, and storage are centralized.
Disadvantages:

1. If a computer network’s main server breaks down, the entire system would become
useless.
2. Even if only one of the computers in the network gets infected by malware, there are
high chances of them spreading to other computers.
