The document describes determining the density of solids and liquids through experiments using common laboratory equipment. Density is defined as mass per unit volume. Coins were stacked to find the density of a solid using the geometric method by measuring the mass and volume. Water was also measured before and after adding the coins to calculate density and percent error.

Density is an intensive property of matter which refers to mass per unit of volume of a substance.

This experiment aims to identify the density of solids and liquids with the use of common laboratory apparatus.

The first method used in determining the density of a solid is by geometric method. In this experiment, ten one-peso
coins were stacked forming a cylinder.

A 100-mL graduated cylinder was weighed with the use of the platform balance and was used to measure 50 mL and
100 mL of distilled water.

The initial volume of the water was 50mL while the final volume was 57mL.
Table 1 shows the values obtained from the measurement of the stacked coins using the geometric method.

The true value of the density of water was 1.00 g/mL which was used to get the percent error which gives an answer
of 1.785%.
