Problem Statement:

To statically analyze the displacement and stresses of equilateral triangular truss using ANSYS
MECHANICAL APDL.

V (poison Ratio) = 0.3
E= 200*10^3

Pre-processor:
 Open APDL and Select Preferences
 Select Structural
 Got to Preprocessor and select Element type and select Add/Delete
 Select Link and 3D finit stn 180.

 Go to Real constant and select the Link


 Give Area of 500mm2

 Go to Material properties and select modeling then select Linear


 Select isentropic and give the value of PRXY (poison ratio) of 0.3 and value of E (Young
modulus) is 200e3
 Go to modeling and select the Nodes Inactive CS
 For 1st node give location of 0,0,0 and for 2nd 1000, 0,0 and for 3rd 500, 866.025 ,0
 Go to Elements and select Auto numbered and select Truss Nodes
 Select nodes and apply and Geometry will be

 Go to Loads and select define loads


 Select nodes 1 and select displacement to be applied, select all DOF and again select
node 2 and select all options except all DOF and UX.
 Select Force/Moment and apply Force of -200N onto node 3
 Select FX an apply force of 200

Problem Statement:

To statically analyze the shear force and bending moment of simple supported beam
using ANSYS MECHANICAL APDL.

Given:
 Poison ratio = V = 0.3
 Young Modulus = E = 200e3
 Force = 2000 kg
 Rotation at z ≠ 0
 Displacement along x ≠ 0
 No of Divisions = 20
 B = 50
 H = 50

Procedure:
Pre-processor:

 Open APDL and Select Preferences and Select Structural

 Got to Preprocessor and select Element type and select Add/Delete


 Select beam and select 2 node188

 Go to Material properties and select modeling then select Linear

 Go to sections and select beam


 Then select common sections an give values of B =50 and H =50
 Go to modeling and select Inactive CS

Problem Statement:
To statically analyze the deflection and stresses of rectangular plate with circular hole
using ANSYS MECHANICAL APDL

Given:

Thickness= 12.5 cm
V = 0.3
Pressure= 50Pa

Procedure:
Pre processor
 Open APDL and Select Preferences and Select Structural

 Got to Preprocessor and select Element type and select Add/Delete


 Select beam and select 2 node188 and in options select plain stress w/ thickness

 Go to Material properties and select modeling then select Linear


 Select isentropic and give the value of PRXY (poison ratio) of 0.27 and value of E
(Young modulus) is 210e9 and give thickness 1 in real constant.
 Go to Modeling and select area and select rectangle by 2 corners
 Give values of H=40 and W =60

 Now create Circles inside the geometry.


 Draw Select circle than solid circle
 Give dimensions of 15, 20, 5 and for the other circle 45,20,5

 Go to create select Boolean and subtract area
 Now perform meshing using mesh tool,

To statically analyses the deflection and stresses of corner bracket with circular
hole using ANSYS MECHANICAL APDL

Given:
Thickness= 12.5
E= 2e^5
V= 0.3

Procedure:
Pre processor
 Open APDL and Select Preferences and Select Structural

 Got to Preprocessor and select Element type and select Add/Delete


 Select beam and select 2 node188 and in options select plain stress w/ thickness

 Go to Material properties and select modeling then select Linear


 Select isentropic and give the value of PRXY (poison ratio) of 0.3 and value of E (Young
modulus) is 200e3
 Go to Modeling and select area and select rectangle by 2 corners
 Give values of H=25 and W =75 x=0 y=0
 Again give values of x=50 y= -50 w=25 and h =50

 Now create Circles inside the geometry.


 Draw Select circle than solid circle
 Give dimensions of 10,15,9 and for the other circle 90,15,9.
 Now select wok area
 Than select key points
 Select corner
 Again make solid circle and give value of radius 5

 Now go to create line then line fillet and select plot line
 The radius of fillet = 5

 
 Go to Loads and select define loads
 Apply pressure of 100 and on other circle do the process same







 Go to operate option then select Boolean
 Select the area of rectangle and click on ok he circles will be removed
 Go to mesh tool and perform meshing. Give element size edge length value 5

 Select plot results and select deformed shape
 After that select contour plots and plot the results
 Then plot the contour plots to find stress and deflection

 Then select common sections and select I beam in sub type and give values

 Go to modeling and select Inactive CS


 For 1st key point give location of 0,0 and for 2nd 100, 0, 0 and for 3rd 300, 0, 0

 Go to modeling and select key points


 Then select Lines and Straight Lines

 Go to Meshing and select mesh Tool


 Perform meshing
 Go to Loads and select define loads
 Then Select Structures and then select key points
 Select Displacement on the Point 1 and select all DOF

Problem Statement:
To analyze the flow of fluid (water) through hollow circular pipe
using ANSYS WORKBENCH.

Given:
Flow velocity = 5 m/s

 Draw the 3d diagram of pipe as figured above on solid works or AutoCAD and then import
to Ansys Workbench in stp. Or igs. file format.
 Fill the profile using fill function in ansys design modeller.
 Mesh the figure using fine relevance options and then mesh the pipe.
 Create named selections i.e.: inlet, outlet and wall.
 Enter setup and then using double precision methods change the desired properties, iterations
and then initialize and run calculations.
 Interpret the results and assess the flow in pipe.

 Open workbench > select: Static structural > rename the project and save

 Select engineering data > engineering data source > general > structural steel >add

Geometry creation:

 Open design modler > create geometry

 Create> sketch (xy plane)

 Select: concept > cross section > I beam

 Enter the dimensions and generate


 Select: extrude > sketch > apply > depth=500 > generate

 Open model

 Select geometry > solid > material: steel

 Select static structural > insert > fixed support > apply

 Select static structural > insert > force > select center point > apply > value:6kN

 Select solution > insert > total deformation & von misses stresses

Lab Session 12
Problem Statement:

To analyze the flow of fluid (water) through venturi meter using ANSYS
WORKBENCH.

Given data:

Flow velocity= 25 m/s

To find =?

Flow characteristics=?

Procedure:

 Draw the 3d diagram of venturi meter as figured above on solid works or AutoCAD and then
import to Ansys Workbench in stp. Or igs. file format.

 Fill the profile using fill function in ansys design modeller.

 Mesh the figure using fine relevance options and then mesh the pipe.

 Create named selections i.e.: inlet, outlet and wall.


 Enter setup and then using double precision methods change the desired properties, iterations
and then initialize and run calculations.

 Interpret the results and assess the flow in pipe.

 Use any modeling software to create the 3D geometry. In this case Creo Parametric.

 Open design modeler > import the geometry

 Open fluent mesher

 Select generate mesh > mesh will be generated

 Create named selections by selecting surface>right click>create named selection:

Setup:

Fluent General setup:

 Open Fluent.

 Select models > energy > on3


 Select K-epsilon turbulence model with standard wall function.

Materials and cell zone conditions:

 Select materials > fluids > create new > fluent database > water > copy

 Select cell zone conditions> fluid > change to water

Boundary conditions:

 Select boundary conditions> inlet > velocity> enter 3 m/s


 Make sure outlet is set to pressure outlet

Solution method and initialization:

 Select solution > method > select the following

 Select initialization> standard > compute from: inlet > initialize

Calculations:

 Select run calculation > number of iteration = 100 > calculate


 Solution is converged

Post processing:

 Graphics>contours>new>Select: pressure

 Select: inlet, outlet, interior fluid

 Select compute> save/display


 Similarly create velocity contour.
 Select contour> create> plane > velocity or pressure> compute
