BUSINESS PLAN OUTLINE

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 Spanish colonial era when the invention of the tabo began, it was NOT used with a
toilet - this is because the toilet was not commonly used until 1850. It was used in the
kitchen to pour water for drinking or cleaning, or at the front door to wash guests'
hands and feet as an all-purpose household item. In essence, the tabo reveals the
Filipino fascination with cleanliness. The modern tabo came from the American
introduction to plastic and it is only recently that the tabo has been relegated to the
bathroom. In addition, today's tabo is the traditional Filipino hygiene tool primarily for
cleansing, bathing, and cleaning the bathroom floor. The tabo could be used most
often in the provinces, although it is also frequently used in the cities. When
plastic tabo widely used in the country, there are some issues regarding the use of
plastic.

The change in the tabo or water dipper design made Filipinos feel back to the old era,
especially those in provinces. TABUKO made an innovation that would greatly benefit all
Filipinos regarding the issue of the modern plastic tabo. TABUKO prevents pollution by
reducing the need for plastic materials. Also, Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills by
using the TABUKO instead of the traditional Filipino hygiene tool, which is tabo.  Furthermore,
it helps our surroundings to have a peaceful environment because of the avoidance of plastic
materials.

1.1.1 Water dipper or tabo is known to be in every Filipino household and it was
introduced to tourists that visited our country. We use it for hygiene purposes and
became part of our everyday lives. Our product on the other hand is an enhanced
version of ordinary tabos. Since coconut waste and plastic waste can have
disadvantages into our environment, why not put a use to it and lessen plastic
pollution? The idea for the product came up to that reason. When coconut husks
rot over time, in its process, it may smell or generate methane gas which is
explosive and can affect negatively to the greenhouse effect and causes pollution.

1.1.2 The researchers come up with the idea of coconut shell as a water dipper as an
alternative for “Tabo” or plastic water dipper. TABUKO is a simple coconut waste
shell that made into a water dipper. The reason why the researchers used coconut
shell is to avoid the pollution in the Philippines. Many of you might ask that
coconut shells are very easy to crack or not durable. Therefore, in order to make a
durable coconut shell water dipper, the researchers will be going to use
Elastomeric Polyurethane as a coating for the coconut shell. Elastomeric
Polyurethane is a Polyurethane material that has a characteristic of the elastic.

Entrepreneurship Page 7
Business Proposal
Elastomeric Polyurethane mostly used in insulation of car, building and wooden
object to make it durable. Since, the Philippines is the second largest coconut
plantation in the world, which has an approximately 3.56 million hectares, the
Davao city is the main source of coconut shell of the researchers which is the top
– coconut producer in the Philippines.TABUKO can be used may it could be in
watering the plants, flushing the toilet and cleaning the bathroom as we all know
that Filipino always used water dipper in their daily lives.
