Lesson Plan in Philosophy


I. Objectives:
Given the activities, the students will be able to do the following with at least 75% of
accuracy:

A. Distinguish a holistic perspective from a partial point of view.


B. Realize the value of doing philosophy in obtaining a broad perspective on life.
C. Do a philosophical reflection on a concrete situation from a holistic perspective.

III. Procedure: Inductive Method (New Lesson)

A. Learning Activities

“Good Morning Class...” “Good Morning Ma’am!”

“So how’s your day? Is it good so far?” “It was great Ma’am!”

“That’s good to know. So, are you ready to discuss our new “Yes Ma’am!”
topic today?’

“Okay that’s good, so let’s begin this with a group activity! Are “Yes Ma’am!”
you ready?

Motivation

Teacher shows a picture through PowerPoint presentation that


relates to the topic.

“What words come to mind when you hear the word (Students will give their answers)
Philosophy?”

“Why do we need to study Philosophy?”

Presentation

“Very nice! I am very pleased with your ideas. Now let’s


discuss about Philosophy.
Discussion

“The word philosophy comes from the Greek words: philos


(love) and sophia (wisdom) or love love of wisdom.”

“Philosophy is the study of the general and fundamental


nature of reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind,
and language.”

“Philosophy in simple words is a way of thinking about the


world, the universe, and society.”

“Now since Philosophy is all about love of wisdom can you give (Students will give their answers)
me examples of questions that is in your mind that you think
will relate to Philosophy.”

“Very good! All of those are Philosophical questions, I have


here examples of questions from the many Philosophical
questions that we can think of.”

• What is good?
• What is beauty?
• Do we have free will?
• Does the world around us exist?
• What is a person?
• What is truth?
• What is evil?
• What is the relationship between mind and body?
• What is science?
• Does God exist?
• What is philosophy?
• What is love?

“Since we know what Philosophy is all about, can anyone give (Students will give their answers)
me a great Philosopher that you know?”

“Nice answers! I am glad that you know these Philosophers.”

“There are many Philosophers but do you know who are the (Students give names of
three famous Greek Philosophers? ” Philosophers)
Teacher shows a picture of the three famous Greek
philosophers (Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle) and identifies
each.

Since Philosophy deals with questions and gaining wisdom


that particularly deals with thinking. Did you know that their two
types of thinking in Philosophy. We Holistic and Partial
thinking”

Before discussing Holistic and Partial thinking teacher shows


pictures to the students for them to gain insight of the topic.

Generalization

“Now, class, let’s remember that Philosophy


Is a study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and
existence, especially when considered as an academic
discipline. It came from two Greek word “Philos” meaning love
and “Sophia” means wisdom”
“And let us also remember that in Philosphy there are two
types of thinking: Holistic and Partial Thinking.”

Application

Group Activity: Students will be grouped into 3, each group will


be given a picture in which they are tasked to give their holistic
opinion about the image that they see.
