PSIM (HASP network version) - Quick Guide

Installing PSIM
Before installing PSIM, first designate one computer to host the hasp network key (called the server computer). Installation
of the PSIM hasp network version involves two steps: (a) installing the hasp driver and opening the port number 1947 on the
server computer; and (b) installing the PSIM software on client computers (a client computer is the one that runs PSIM, and
is connected to the same network as the server computer).
The hasp network key must be running properly before PSIM is installed.
Note: Installing the hasp driver and PSIM all requires administrative privilege. You must have the administrative
privilege, or you need to ask your system administrator to perform the installation.
Installing the Hasp Driver and Opening Port 1947 on the Server Computer:
1. Dedicate a computer as the server computer to host the hasp network key. Connect the hasp network key to this
computer. Note that the computer can be any computer on the network, and it must be running at all times. After the
key is connected, the hasp driver will be installed automatically. If for some reason the hasp drive does not install
or is not installed properly, run the file “HaspUserSetup.exe” that can be found on the USB stick with the installation
files.
If the hasp driver is successfully installed, you will be able to see the hasp network key by launching a web browser
and entering “localhost:1947” at the address. The browser will show Sentinel Admin Control Center. Click on
Sentinel Keys under Options, and the key information will be displayed.
2. Open Port 1947 on the server computer. The hasp license manager uses Port 1947 for communication with PSIM
on the client computers, and this port must be open in the firewall on both the server and client computers. Below is
the procedure to open the port in Windows firewall. If other firewall software is used, refer to the user guide of the
firewall software on how to open the port.
- In Control Panel, go to Windows Firewall. Click on Advanced Settings. The left panel of the dialog will
show Inbound Rules and Outbound Rules.
- Highlight Inbound Rules. Under the Actions section, click on New Rule…. Under Rule Type, select Port.
Under Protocol and Ports, select TCP and select Specific local ports, and enter 1947 for the local port.
Under Action, select Allow the connection. Under Profile, check the appropriate boxes. Under Name,
specify a name for the rule (for example “SafeNet Inbound”).
- Repeat the same procedure to add the port to Outbound Rules.
Enable the firewall after adding the exceptions.
After this, the client computer should be able to see the hasp network key on the server computer. On the client
computer, launch a web browser, and enter “localhost:1947” at the address to show the Sentinel Admin Control
Center. The hasp network key on the server computer should be displayed under Sentinel Keys.
Installing the PSIM Software on the Client Computer:
1. From the PSIM Installation USB stick, run “setup.exe” for 32-bit version or “setup_x64.exe” for 64-bit version, and
follow the instructions. PSIM can be installed on either the local drive of a client computer or the network drive
accessible by other PC’s (in which case the Hasp driver still needs to be installed on each client computer).
2. On the page “Select License Type”, choose “2 - Hasp network version”, and click on Next.
3. On the page “Choose Destination Location”, choose the destination folder, and click on Next to proceed with the
rest of the installation.
4. If the hasp network key cannot be found, launch a web browser and enter “localhost:1947” at the address to launch
the Sentinel Admin Control Center. Click on Sentinel Keys under Options. If you do not see the network key,
disable the firewalls on both the server and client computers. If you see the key after disabling the firewall, add Port
1947 to the client computer firewall exception list. Enable the firewall after adding the exception.

If the hasp network key still cannot be found, please follow the steps below:
- On the server computer, launch a web browser and enter “localhost:1947” at the address to launch the
Sentinel Admin Control Center. Go to Configuration, and click on the tab Basic Settings. Check the
box “Allow remote access to ACC”, and click on Submit, as shown below:

CHECK

Click on the tab Access from Remote Clients, and make sure that the box “Allow Access from Remote
Clients” is checked, as shown below. By default, this box should be checked.
If you wish to allow certain computers to access the license, or deny certain computers from accessing
the license, under “Access Restrictions”, define the computer IP address as shown below. For more
information on how to define access restriction, click on the Help button at the lower right corner.

- On the client computer, launch a web browser and enter “localhost:1947” at the address to launch the
Sentinel Admin Control Center. Click on the tab Access to Remote License Manager. Uncheck the
box “Broadcast Search for Remote Licenses” and check the box “Aggressive Search for Remote
Licenses”, and add the IP address of the server computer. Then click on Submit, as shown below:

of the server computer

- Open the Windows Services page from the Control Panel, and restart the service “Sentinel LDK license
Manager”, as shown below:

5. After installation is complete, if your license does not include the MagCoupler or MagCoupler-RT Module, skip this
step. Otherwise, in PSIM, go to Options >> Set Path and add JMAG folder to the PSIM search path. For example,
if JMAG is in “c:\program files\JMAG-Designer”, add this folder to the PSIM search path. Also, for 64-bit, add the
folder "Solver\mod\mag\mod" in JMAG to the PSIM search path.
6. If PSIM is installed on a network drive, the online help will not work due to Windows securities. Copy the file
"PSIM.chm" to a local drive folder (for example "c:\PSIM"). In PSIM, in Options >> Settings >> Advanced, check
"Use alternate PSIM help file path", and click on the button ... to select the file "c:\PSIM\PSIM.chm".
This concludes the installation.

Installing PSIM in the Silent Mode

To install PSIM on client computers in the silent mode, launch a command line window. From the command line window,
change the folder to the folder where the setup file is located. Then type the following command:
setup_x64.exe /verysilent /dir=”c:\Powersim\PSIM_x64”
This will run the setup “setup_x64.exe”, and install PSIM to the destination folder “c:\Powersim\PSIM_x64”.
Instead of the option “/verysilent”, one can use the option “/silent” which will give error messages if there are errors in the
installation process.

Running Multiple PSIM Versions

The setup file “setup.exe” or “setup_x64.exe” is meant for only one installation of PSIM release on a computer. If you are
going to run more than one PSIM version of the same release on a computer, you need to rename the folder of the previous
installation before starting another installation. Otherwise, when running the second installation, the previous installation will
need to be uninstalled.
For example, if you are going to run both PSIM hasp stand-alone and hasp network versions, first install the stand-alone
version to a folder (for example, “c:\program files\Powersim\PSIM”). Then rename this folder (for example, to “c:\program
files\Powersim\PSIM_stand-alone”). Run “setup.exe” again. When asked to “Modify, repair, or remove the program”, choose
“Remove”. After it is complete, run “setup.exe” to install the network version.

Simulating a Circuit
To simulate the sample circuit “examples\dc-dc\buck.psimsch” in the PSIM directory, launch PSIM. Choose File >> Open
to load the file. Then go to Simulate >> Run Simulation to start the simulation.

Setting up Co-simulation with Matlab/Simulink

When PSIM is installed, if your license includes the SimCoupler Module, the installation will set up the co-simulation
between PSIM and Matlab/Simulink automatically. But if you change the PSIM folder name or install a new version of
Matlab after PSIM is installed, you must launch PSIM and go to menu Utilities >> SimCoupler Setup or run
“SetSimPath.exe” in the PSIM directory to set up the co-simulation again.
