The suggested structure of a report and the purpose and contents of each section is shown below:

ABBREVIATION/GLOSSARY Include a glossary if the report includes a lot of


specialised vocabulary or acronyms which may not
be familiar to the reader.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Acknowledge the assistance of particular


organisations or individuals who provided
information, advice or help. 

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY/ABSTRACT Overview of subject matter


Methods of analysis
Findings
Recommendations

TABLE OF CONTENTS List of numbered sections in report and their page


numbers

INTRODUCTION Terms of reference


Explain the problem and show the reader why the
report is being made and explain how the details
of the report are arranged

BODY Headings and sub-headings which reflect the


contents of each section. Includes information on
method of data collection (if applicable), the
findings of the report and discussion of findings in
light of theory; aims and objectives; necessary
background information
CONCLUSION State the major inferences that can be
drawn from the discussion; makes
recommendations.
Draws together your findings; tell the
reader which findings you consider to be most
important; explains what you believe to be the
significance of your findings; shows whether
your hypothesis (if you had one) was correct;
you may wish to suggest areas for further
research.

REFERENCE LIST/BIBLIOGRAPHY List of reference material consulted during


research for report

APPENDIX Information that supports your analysis but is not


essential to its explanation

Style

- Always use clear and concise English, avoiding jargon and colloquial language
- Write in fairly short sentences
- Make sure you develop each paragraph sufficiently (usually a minimum of 5/6 sentences)

Min. 15,000 words (30 to 40 pages); left align; use double spacing;
use Times New Roman font with font size 12; use APA style for Conclusion
referencing; use 1 inch margins on all sides. Reference List/ Bibliography
