It allows LDRPS users to access LDRPS from almost any
machine that has internet access (see page 32 for specific
access requirements.)
Whenever LDRPS updates are available, you will be
required only to perform updates on the Web server(s),
services server(s), and on any Crystal Report machines.
It allows LDRPS to offload CPU‐intensive jobs, such as
scheduling, publishing, and document conversion.
The following illustration depicts the standard LDRPS Web
configuration. Detailed requirements and installation
instructions appear in the rest of this chapter.

Here are some examples of why you might want to set up
additional temporary or permanent servers:
12
LDRPS Web configuration
Temporary needs
You are building your LDRPS database for the first time.
You have asked all users to spend the next 3 weeks entering
all information into LDRPS. You set up an additional Web
server for those 3 weeks.
As part of your LDRPS rollout plan, you are ready to
implement the use of the LDRPS documents dictionary. To
handle the unusually high number of document
conversions that will be performed during this period, you
set up an additional Document Converter Service server.
At the end of each fiscal year, your financial division prints
hard copies of the accounting plans for all of your business
units. You set up a Publisher Service server to handle the
high number of publish requests that occur during this
activity.
Permanent needs
Your company has 180 concurrent users. Following the
hardware recommendations, you set up two Web servers.
You point 90 users to the first Web server, and 90 users to
the second.
As your number of concurrent users has grown, some users
have been experiencing longer than usual wait times for
their reports to appear. You set up a Report Manager
Service server to improve the performance.
The following illustration depicts the standard LDRPS Web
configuration using multiple Web and services servers. Detailed
requirements and installation instructions appear in the rest of
this chapter.

4 Accessing LDRPS
This chapter describes the steps you should perform when you
first access LDRPS. For detailed information on using LDRPS
after you have logged in, see the LDRPS Administrator Guide and
the LDRPS User Guide.

Starting LDRPS
After all installation and setup steps are complete, launch the
LDRPS application.
To start LDRPS:
1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
2. Enter your LDRPS server address. By default, this address
is http://servername/strohlsystems.ldrps.web/. However,
you may have changed this address in ʺTask 4: Installing
47
LDRPS Installation Guide
LDRPS on a web serverʺ on page 18 or in ʺTask 4: Installing
LDRPS on stand‐alone workstation(s)ʺ on page 37.
When you start LDRPS for the first time, an Internet
Explorer message may appear below the task bar.
This is because LDRPS launches in a window
separate from the browser. To continue to the LDRPS
Logon screen and to prevent this message from
appearing again, right‐click on the message and
choose “Always allow popups from this site.”
! If your browser continues to block LDRPS from
launching, check for any third‐party popup blocker
that may be enabled on your machine.
Logging on to LDRPS
LDRPS includes one predefined account: Admin. The Admin
account is designed to be used by LDRPS administrators. It has
access to every screen, feature, field, document, and report in
LDRPS.
To learn how you can create additional user accounts
with varying levels of LDRPS access, see the LDRPS
Administrator Guide chapter, “Setting LDRPS Security.”
To log on to LDRPS:
1. Enter the LDRPS Administrator user name, Admin.
2. Enter the default LDRPS Administrator password,
Ldrps10$, and click the Log On button.
! This password is case‐sensitive.
3. If your user name and password are valid, the LDRPS
home page opens.
! If this is the first time you are logging on to LDRPS,
you should change your password. See the next task.
Or if your user name and password are not valid, you will
48
Accessing LDRPS
receive a logon error.
! If you do not interact with LDRPS for 20 minutes or
more, you will be logged off automatically. To continue
using LDRPS, you must log on again.
1. Click the Personal Settings button below the main
toolbar.
2. Enter a new password.
3. Re‐type the new password and click the OK button.
! Thoroughly review the security implications of trusting a
site. If you decide not to add the LDRPS application as a
trusted site, your access to LDRPS functionality will not
be affected; however, you will continue to receive the
.Net security warnings in LDRPS popup windows. To
ignore a .Net security warning that appears in an LDRPS
popup window, click the warning message. The message
will disappear and you can continue working in LDRPS.
