A psychologist conducted an experiment to compare typing speeds on two different keyboard designs, Keyboard A and Keyboard B. Participants' words per minute were recorded for each keyboard. An independent samples t-test was used to determine if the typing speeds were significantly different. The analysis found the mean words per minute was higher for Keyboard A at 65.6 compared to 53.9 for Keyboard B. However, the t-value of 2.797 and p-value of 0.11 failed to reject the null hypothesis that the typing speeds were the same. It was concluded the typing speeds on the two keyboards were not significantly different.

5. A psychologist studying the human factors of computer keyboards sets up an experiment to compare two
different keyboard designs. He measures the number of words per minute typed by one group on Keyboard
A and then he measures the number of words typed per minute by another group of people on Keyboard B.
Use the data below to determine if the typing speeds on the two different keyboards are significantly
different.

Keyboard A (words per minute) Keyboard B (words per minute)

54, 62, 75, 59, 78, 64, 69, 72, 50, 73 47, 51, 54, 62, 44, 51, 48, 65, 42, 44, 71, 68

HO : THE TYPING SPEED OF TWO KEY BOARDS, KEYBOARD A AND KEYBOARD B

ARE SIGNIFICANTLY THE SAME.

SET THE STATISTICAL TOOL: INDEPENDENT SAMPLE T- TEST

LEVEL OF SIGNIFICANCE: .05

DATA ANALYSIS

Indicators’ Mean t-Value P-Value(significance)

KEYBOARD A 65.6000 2.797 .011

KEYBOARD B 53.9167 2.817 .011

INTERPRETATION: The TYPING SPEED OF Two KEYBOARD A and B , are the same( T-
values =2.797 and p value= 0.11) at 0.5 level. Therefore, we failed to reject the hypothesis.
The mean scores
of the two KEYBOARDS are NOT EQUAL.

Conclusion: therefore, THE TYPING SPEED OF KEYABOARD A and B ARE

SIGNIFICANTLY THE SAME.
