 Microscope is a tool which can help you see tiny objects and living organisms. It makes them look bigger. This ability
of the microscope is called its magnifying power or magnification.
 Resolving power or resolution capacity of the microscope to distinguish small gaps between two separate points
which humans cannot distinguish
 field of view the bright circle of light of the microscope
 specimen is a part or sample of any material e.g. plant, animal, paper or mineral, for study or examination under the
microscope
 Parfocal this means the image in clear focus under the low power objective, remains focused after shifting to HPO.

A. Identify the parts of the microscope.

1. ____________________ - the lens the viewer looks through to see the specimen
2. ____________________ - connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses
3. ____________________ - a rotating turret that houses the objective lenses; the viewer spins this to select different
objective lenses.
4. _______________ - one of the most important parts of a compound microscope, as they are the lenses closest to the
specimen
5. ____________________ - the flat platform where the slide is placed
6. ____________________ - metal clips that hold the slide in place
7. ____________________ - adjusts the amount of light that reaches the specimen
8. ____________________ - light source for a microscope
9. ____________________ - connects the body tube to the base of the microscope
10. ____________________ - supports the microscope and it’s where mirror is located
11. ____________________ - Brings the specimen into general focus; used with the low-power objective lens
12. ____________________ - tunes the focus and increases the detail of the specimen; used with the high-power objective
lens
13. _______________ - It allows one to tilt the upper part of the microscope so that you can view the specimen while seated
14. Scanner - is the shortest OBJECTIVE LENS marked 3x, 4x or 5x
15. ____________________ - OBJECTIVE LENS that is marked 10x or 12x
16. ____________________ - OBJECTIVE LENS that is marked 40x, 43x or 60x.
