Guide Lines for Project Report Format

1. ARRANGEMENT OF CONTENTS:

The sequence in which the project report material should be arranged and bound should
be as follows:

1. Title Page
2. Certificate
3. Acknowledgements
4. Abstract
5. List of tables
6. List of Figures
7. Tables of Contents
8. Introduction
9. Body of the report
10. Summary and conclusions
11. Bibliography

The table and figures shall be introduced in the appropriate places.

2. PREPARATION FORMAT:

Cover Page & Title Page – A specimen copy of the Cover page & Title page of the
project report are given in Appendix A.

Bonafide Certificate – The Bonafide Certificate shall be in 1.5 line spacing using Font
Style Times New Roman and Font Size 12, as per the format in Appendix B.

Abstract
An abstract is a brief or condensed statement by the student, or the essential ideas of the
student’s work. The abstract must not exceed 600 words in length and should a statement
of the problem, an explanation of the methods and procedures used in gathering data, and
a summary of the findings. It should not be just a summary statement of each
chapter. (Appendix C)

Acknowledgements

In the “Acknowledgements” page, the student recognizes his indebtedness for guidance
and assistance of the report advisor and other members of the faculty. Courtesy demands
that he also recognize specific contribution by other persons or institutions such as
libraries and research foundations. Acknowledgements should be expressed simply,
tastefully, and tactfully duly signed above the name. Email should also be given at the
end. (Appendix D)

Table of Contents – The table of contents should list all material following it as well as
any material which precedes it. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the
matter under this head. A specimen copy of the Table of Contents is given in Appendix.
List of Tables – The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear above the
tables in the text. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under
this head. A specimen copy of the List of Tables is given in Appendix.

List of Figures – The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear below the
figures in the text. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under
this head. A specimen copy of the List of Figures is given in Appendix

 Figures and tables should be numbered as x.x (E.g. Fig. 3.1 for first figure in
chapter 3) in the text of the discussion.

Chapters –
The chapters may be broadly divided into 3 parts (i) Introductory chapter, (ii) Chapters
developing the main theme of the project work (iii) and Conclusion. The main text will
be divided into several chapters and each chapter may be further divided into several
divisions and sub-divisions.

The chapter title is the first-order heading. A chapter may be divided into sections each of
which has a section title (second-order heading). For example, in Chapter 3, the sections will
be numbered 3.1, 3.2, etc. If at all possible do not further subdivide a section.

Use subsections (third-order headings) only if unavoidable. For instance, in section 3.2, the
subsections will be numbered 3.2.1, 3.2.2, etc. Do not further subdivide beyond this point.
For example, subsection 3.2.2 may not be further divided into subsections 3.2.2.1, 3.2.2.2 etc.

Tables and figures in a chapter should be placed in the immediate vicinity of the
reference where they are cited.

A specimen copy of Chapter of the project report is given in Appendix.

Guidelines for project report writing

Good quality white A4 size (GSM 100) paper should be used for printout and
duplication.

Page Specification

Left Margin : 3.5 cms


Right Margin : 3.0 cms
Top Margin : 2.54 cms / 1 inch
Bottom margin : 2.54 cms/ 1 inch

Page Numbers- All text pages as well as program source code listing should be
numbered at the bottom center of the pages.

Normal Body Text:

Font size : 12, Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing, single side writing.
Paragraph Heading Font size : 14, Times New Roman

Bibliography: (Example)

Binding & Color code of the report:

The project report should be hard bound with cover page printed on it in specified
Format.
Cover sheet of Project report should be bound in cheery resin with lettering in
gold embossing / screen printing.

Note:
 Four copies of the project completion report, neatly bound, should be submitted.
No of copies: 4 (Four) (Three for College + One copy a student should keep with
them for further reference (optional))
 Soft copy of the documentation and presentation (PPT) in CD must be paste at the
backside (inside) of the each project report.
 Programming code is not required.
 Chapter must begin on new page.
 Page numbers are mandatory and should be given at the bottom (centre)
 Spell checks should be carried out.
 The length of the Report should be about 70 to 120 pages
 Screen shots (if any) must be colorful (printout).
 Project report must not contain unnecessary contents.
 All students have to prepare the presentation in the form of power point
presentation for final project viva voice.
