ELEG 270 – Electronics

First Assessment
Due on: April 15th, 1:00 p.m.

This statement serves as a reminder that above all things we are students of academia and hold
our academic integrity in the highest regard. Assignments that take place outside of the
classroom are very different than inside so below are some guidelines to help you navigate that
path.

The following are NOT acceptable behaviours for an out of class assignment:
• Copying someone else's work of any kind.
• Double checking you answers with someone else.
• Dividing the work so student A does problem one, student B does problem two and
then you share the results.
• Using the internet to find solution to problems.
• Asking another instructor, student, online resource to help you with the assignment.

Follow these guidelines:

• Provide a neat and clear solution with complete details, explanation and steps. If your
solution is missing explanation and/or steps, is not clear/neat, you should expect to lose
points.
• Your final file should be named as follows: [YourName]_[YourID].pdf
• Submit your solution in a single .PDF file and upload it to the link provided on the
course page on moodle before the deadline. You can use a mobile scanner app such as
Microsoft Lens, AdobeScan etc. OR, you could copy properly cropped pictures into
this same WORD file and convert that to PDF.
• Late submissions and/or submissions via emails will not be accepted. Please submit
your solution on time via the link provided on moodle.

I hereby swear that the work done on this assignment is my own and I have not given nor
received aid that is inappropriate for this assignment. I understand that by the AUK code,
violation of these principles will lead to a zero on this assignment.

Q1- [15 marks] Let X be the first three significant digits in your student ID. For example, if
your students ID is S00012345, then X = 123. Use the value of X obtained based on your
student ID in the problem below.

Consider a n-type silicon for which the dopant concentration is ND = 10 ⁄𝑐𝑚3 .

Find nn and pn at T = X °C.

Q2- [20 marks] Let Z be the first four significant digits in your student ID. For example, if
your students ID is S00012345, then Z = 1234. Use the value of Z obtained based on your
student ID in the problem below.

A. Compute R and L to give a bandpass filter with a centre frequency of Z Hz and a quality
factor of 3. Use C = 0.5 μF.
B. What are the cutoff Frequencies?
Q3- [25 marks] Let Y be the first five significant digits in your student ID. For example, if
your students ID is S00012345, then Y = 12345. Use the value of Y obtained based on your
student ID in the problem below.

Given that ωc2 >> ωc1, the bandpass filter below has the following transfer function:
−𝑌𝑠
𝐻(𝑠) =
𝑠 2 + 100𝑠 + 25000
A. If C1 = 0.1μF and C2 =0.2 μF, Design an active bandpass filter that would satisfy the
given transfer function?
B. If vi is a sine wave with 10 V peak-to-peak, sketch the waveform of vo if the frequency
of the input signal was:
i. 5 krad/s.
ii. 50 kHz.
