UNIVERSAL GATES

ACTIVITY 2
COURSE CODE: CPE 013 PROGRAM: BSCPE

COURSE TITLE: LOGIC CIRCUITS AND DESIGNS DATE PERFORMED: 07/5/21

SECTION: CPE22S1 DATE SUBMITTED: 07/5/21

STUDENT NAME: ESPELA,EMERSON R. INSTRUCTOR: ENGR. MENCHIE

MIRANDA-ROSALES

OBJECTIVE:

This activity aims to construct circuits using NAND and NOR gates perform as AND, OR, NOT, XOR
and XNOR logic gates.

DISCUSSION:

INSTRUCTION:

1. Draw the equivalent circuits of AND, OR, NOT, XOR and XNOR logic gates using Universal
Gates NAND and NOR. Refer to Table 2.1 for the format.
2. Simulate the function of each equivalent circuits in Logic.ly and plot the output in a truth
table.
3. Simulate the operation of each equivalent circuits in TinkerCAD by connecting the inputs,
wires, electronic components, and output correctly following the pin configuration of the
IC.
4. Provide a media recordings of all your simulations using Screencast-o-Matic or any
video/screen recording tools. Make sure that your name or face is visible in the video as
proof of your activity. Create the truth table of each equivalent circuit based on the
simulations, follow this format:
5. Write a one paragraph (at least 10 sentences) Conclusion for this activity.
6. Submit a clear captured image file or scanned copy of this written report.
7. Submit also the media recordings of the simulations.

CONCLUSION
In this activity, I achieved to build and simulate different logic gates using the NAND and
OR gates which means that they are really a universal logic gates. Though it may seem more
complex than using a logic gate that can perform its function. As shown in the tables above, the
NAND and OR gates could really perform the function of the other gates as I am able to
achieve the same outputs to the original ones. Additionally, I realized that simulating it in
TinkerCAD is more challenging since I considered the circuit design, making it more easy to
understand by eliminating the jumper wires and arranging the connections of the inputs and
outputs. Like I said, it is much easier to use the original ICs for AND, OR, XOR, XNOR and
INVERTER in real life than to use NAND and NOR gates since it requires more connections.
But this method is really useful especially when you only have limited resources.
