1. GENERAL INFORMATION:
The information brochure is for application for admission to the AICTE approved Post-Graduate Degree
Programmes (M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch/M.Pharm.), offered by 16 Departments under Faculty of Engineering
& Technology (FET) and 10 Interdisciplinary Schools under Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Law and
Management (FISLM) and affiliated to the FET, for the session 2021-22.
All the programmes except five (separately marked as 6-semester evening programmes) are 4-
Semester Day Programmes.
The M.Arch programme is also approved by Council of Architecture (CoA).
The M.Pharm programme offered by the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology is also approved
by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
The PG Degree Programme on Multimedia Development (MMD) is approved by the UGC.
1.1. Admission Categories: Admissions to these programmes of the Institute are open under the
following categories –
Category A: GATE/GPAT – for candidate qualified through GATE/GPAT and having a valid
GATE/GPAT result in terms of the validity period and the cut-off marks in the candidate’s
respective reservation category, if any.
Award of scholarships for GATE/GPAT qualified candidates is not the responsibility of
the University. The candidates with valid GATE/GPAT score, who will be admitted to a
programme duly approved by the concerned authority, are to apply for the scholarship
directly to the concerned regulatory authority, when notified for doing so and will start to
enjoy the scholarship directly from the authority if sanctioned by the respective authority.
Category B: Sponsored – for in-service professionals with a minimum experience, as
stipulated in the eligibility condition, after passing the qualifying degree and duly sponsored
by his/her employer.
Category C: Self-Sponsored – for candidates satisfying minimum eligibility condition with or
without valid GATE/GPAT score for specified programmes only and fulfilling other
programme specific criteria, if any.
Note: Candidates having valid GATE/GPAT score will not be considered eligible for
corresponding scholarship if they opt for and selected to a programme under Sponsored or Self-
sponsored Category.
above (Clause 2.1.1) are also eligible for admission to the corresponding programmes.
2.1.3. Candidates who have appeared / are due to appear at the qualifying examination in the
session 2021-2022 may also apply under Category (A) or (C). The Arithmetic Average of
Grade Point (GPA) will be considered as aggregate to check the eligibility (as per clause
2.1.1). The Arithmetic Average is to be computed by considering all the results (semester or
annual as the case may be) up to the pre-final year level of the qualifying degree examination,
i.e. 1st year of 2-year programme, 1st and 2nd year of 3-year programme, 1st to 3rd year of 4-
year programme and 1st to 4th year of 5-year programme. For qualifying degree in
Engineering, the 1st year result(s) should not be considered in averaging.
If selected, they may be provisionally admitted to the programme and shall have to submit
the final mark sheet of the qualifying examination, fulfilling all the criteria as mentioned,
before commencement of the First Year First Semester Examination of the concerned
programme. Failing this the provisional admission will be cancelled.
2.2. Category wise Additional Eligibility Criteria:
2.2.1. Category A: GATE / GPAT – Having a valid GATE / GPAT score in terms of the validity period
and the cut-off marks in the candidate’s respective reservation category, if any
2.2.2. Category B: Sponsored – Being in service and duly sponsored by his/her present employer
for the entire duration of the programme. Minimum 1 (one) year of experience after passing
the qualifying degree. Relevant experience shall be counted from the date of joining the job
after passing the qualifying degree but not earlier than 1st August of the calendar year of
passing the qualifying degree, till last date of online submission of the application.
For the P.G. in Civil Engineering (all specialisation) minimum 2 (two) years of
experience is essential.
For the P.G. in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (all
specialisation) minimum Grade Point Average of 7.25 (or 65%) in the qualifying
Degree Examination and minimum 2 (two) years of experience are essential.
Candidates with a valid GATE score will be preferred for selection over candidates
without a valid GATE score.
For the P.G. in Power Engineering, candidates having a valid GATE score and
applying under this category fulfilling all other criteria will be preferred for
selection over candidates without a valid GATE score
For the P.G. in Production Engineering (both specialisation), candidates must
have a Minimum Grade Point Average of 7.25 (or 65%) in the qualifying Degree
Examination.
2.2.3. Category C: Self-Sponsored – Candidates are allowed to apply under this category only for
the programmes listed below. Applications under this category for any other programme will
summarily be rejected without any further correspondence.

2.3. Qualifying Degrees: List of qualifying degrees for each of the programmes (with specialisations)
is provided in the Tables: 1.1 & 1.2.

3. SEAT AVAILABILITY
3.1. Detail Seat Matrix for each programme will be notified in the university admission portal
separately before the start of form fill-up process. The reservation of seats for admission will
follow the relevant guidelines of Government of West Bengal and Government of India, as
applicable.
OBC certificate must have clear mention of the category (A or B) and Non Creamy Layer status
with issuing date not earlier than 1st June 2018.
PwD reservation is available for Persons who have a minimum 40% disability with respect to
Locomotor disorder, Visual impairment and/or Speech & Hearing Impairment subject to the
condition that the candidate is capable of carrying out all activities related to theory and
practical work of the programme without any special concession and exemption.
3.2. Reservation under Sports Quota: Separate notification will be issued by the University for
Admission under sports quota, for which there may be a maximum of one seat in each programme,
offered by the departments under FET on supernumerary basis and students admitted under this
quota, if any, will not be eligible for scholarship.
4. SELECTION NORMS:
No admission test will be conducted for applicants of any Category (A, B or C) for admission to
any M.E. / M.Tech / M.Pharm / M.Arch / MMD programmes under FET and FISLM of Jadavpur
University for the session 2021-22 considering the present pandemic situation. Category wise
merit list shall be prepared as per following norms and the allotment of seats shall be according to the
merit list prepared.
4.1. Preparation of Merit List:
4.1.1. Category A – GATE / GPAT Candidates: On the basis of GATE score (out of 1000) or GPAT
Marks (out of 500) whichever is applicable.
4.1.2. Category B – Sponsored Candidates On a scale of 100, calculated by considering –
Final Percentage Marks of the Qualifying Degree Examination in a scale of 60
Aggregate Percentage Marks of the Secondary (or equivalent) Examination in a scale of 30
Marks for Relevant Experience at 1 per year with a Maximum of 10
[Relevant experience shall be counted from the date of joining the job after the qualifying
degree but not earlier than 1st August of the calendar year of passing the qualifying
degree, till last date of online submission of the application
4.1.3. Category C – Self Sponsored Candidates: On a scale of 100 calculated on the basis of –
Final Percentage Marks of the Qualifying Degree Examination in a scale of 60
Aggregate Percentage Marks of the Secondary (or equivalent) Examination in a scale of 40
4.2. Tie Breaking Rule:
In case of any tie in the merit list prepared on the basis of proposed criteria, the following
parameters may be used in the given order to break such tie –

Average of all the results (semester or annual as the case may be) up to the pre-final year level
of the qualifying degree examination, i.e. 1st year of 2-year programme, 1st and 2nd year of
3-year programme, 1st to 3rd year of 4-year programme and 1st to 4th year of 5-year
programme. For qualifying degree in Engineering, the 1st year result(s) should not be
considered in averaging.
Percentage aggregate marks of secondary or equivalent examination.
Date of Birth (Person born earlier will get higher preference)
4.3. Filling up of Vacant Seats:
Seat(s) remaining unfilled of a particular category will be filled up by the candidates listed under
PG Degree Programmes 2021-2022 (FET & FISLM) 5 of 20 Admission Information Brochure
“Waiting List” of the same category. Only if the waiting list is completely exhausted, candidates
from a different category may be selected for unfilled seats of a particular category subject to the
following conditions –
Unfilled seats of GATE category may be filled by candidates applying under self-sponsored
category, only for the GATE programmes which allow Self-Sponsored applications [viz.,
Architecture, Biomedical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Distributed & Mobile
Computing, Energy Science & Technology, Food Technology & Bio-Chemical Engineering, IT
(Courseware Engineering), Nano Science & Technology and Water Resources & Hydraulic
Engineering]
Unfilled seats of Sponsored category may be filled by candidates applying under Self-
sponsored category for the programmes which allow Self-Sponsored applications (listed
under 2.2.3)
Unfilled seats of Sponsored category of the PG degree programme of Pharmacy may be filled
by candidates applying under GPAT category.
For all other cases the unfilled seats will remain vacant.
6. GUIDELINES OF APPLICATION:
6.1. The process of application followed by selection, enrolment and admission will be conducted fully
in ONLINE mode and applicants need not visit university office for any reason.
6.2. An individual can submit only ONE application. Submission of multiple application forms by one
individual may lead to cancellation of all the applications without any further correspondence.
6.3. An applicant can opt for a maximum of 8 (Eight) options and out of that maximum 1 (One) option
may be under Category B.
6.4. For the programmes without specialisation, the programme will be considered as one option and
for programmes with specialisations each specialisation will be considered as separate options.
6.5. A candidate MUST use his/her valid e-mail address, mobile phone number and AADHAR number
as mandatory personal identifiers for filling online application. The e-mail address and phone
number used in the application will be considered as the official medium of communication for all
correspondence from and to university.
6.6. In-service engineers may apply for 6-semester programmes.
6.7. Application Fee for admission to the PG Degree Programmes under FET and FISLM for the
session 2021-2022 is waived under the present pandemic situation.
6.8. Application with wrong, misleading and/or incomplete information or suppression of
information will summarily reject the application without further communication.
6.9. Candidates MUST follow all the guidelines and schedule as published in this brochure and notified
time to time on university admission website. University will not be responsible for any issues
arisen due to non-compliance of this advice.

For marks obtained in the qualifying degree, If the result of the final examination

7.3.3. Professional Experience
The applicants opting for any programme under sponsored category and self-sponsored
candidates opting for the 6-semester programme of Water Resource and Hydraulic
Engineering must have to be presently in service and provide the details of their present
employment along with authenticity of the employer.
The applicants applying under sponsored category MUST have to submit an
“Employment cum No Objection and Sponsorship Certificate” from the present employer
in the proforma given in Annexure – A and submit self-signed scanned copy of any one
of the following documents, containing the name of the employer, as “authenticity proof
of the present employer”. The accepted documents are – Any IT document / Registration
of company / Trade license of company / GST certificate of company.
The self-sponsored category applicants applying for the 6-semester programme of
Water Resource and Hydraulic Engineering MUST have to submit an “Employment
Certificate” from the present employer in the proforma given in Annexure – B and submit
self-signed scanned copy of any one of the following documents, containing the name of
the employer, as “authenticity proof of the present employer”. The accepted documents
are – Any IT document / Registration of company / Trade license of company / GST
certificate of company.
The applicants opting for any option under sponsored category are to provide details of
their previous work experience if any and submit all relevant experience certificates
and/or joining and release letters. All such documents must be in the organisational
letterhead of the employer. Employment offer letter will not be considered as proof of
joining. All such documents mentioned under this clause are to be self-signed and
scanned as a single pdf before submitting.
Date of joining to one employment cannot be earlier than date of leaving from the
previous employment, if any.
Employment credentials without valid documentary support will not be considered as
valid employment.
Certificates of employment may be rejected if not follows the given proforma.
7.3.4. Choice Filling
The applicants are to provide the choice of the programmes they want to apply for.
The programmes not offering any specialisation are considered as individual options
and for the programmes offering specialisation each specialisation is considered as a
separate option.
One applicant can opt for a maximum of 08 (eight) options of which maximum 01 (one)
can be under sponsored category.
While filling the choices, the applicants are to select the options and the application

Examinations of the University stating that the candidate has appeared in the final
examination in 2021 and his/her result of the final (and pre-final semester, if applicable)
examination is yet to be published.
Valid GATE and/or GPAT score card for candidates having valid GATE and/or GPAT score.
For candidates applying under sponsored category
“Employment cum No Objection and Sponsorship Certificate” from the present
employer in the proforma given in Annexure – A
Self-signed scanned copy of Any IT document / Registration of company / Trade
license of company / GST certificate of company containing the name of the
employer as “authenticity proof of the present employer”.
All previous experience certificate(s) or joining and release letter(s) clearly
indicating the date of joining and leaving to the organisation(s) scanned
chronologically in a single pdf document.
For applicants to the 6-semester evening programme of “Water resources & Hydraulic
Engineering”.
“Employment Certificate” from the present employer in the proforma given in
Annexure – B
Self-signed scanned copy of Any IT document / Registration of company / Trade
license of company / GST certificate of company containing the name of the
employer as “authenticity proof of the present employer”.
First page of bank passbook or cancelled cheque containing the name of the account
holder, account number and IFSC number printed on the document.
Candidates also need to upload a proper, clear and legible photograph (3.5cm x 4.5cm in
size) and signature (5cm x 2cm in size).
7.4. Submission
After successful completion of the form fill up the applicant MUST thorough review the data
and document provided and properly SUBMIT the same. Applicant may save & exit and re-
login to the application system as many times as desired within stipulated time and before
final submission.
Application once submitted cannot be modified or edited by the applicant at any point
of time.
After the final submission an acknowledgement document will be provided and the applicant
MUST preserve the submission acknowledgement receipt as evidence of confirm submission.
This document is to be used in all future communication if any and No other document
including screen shots of form will be accepted as proof of form submission.
Applicants are also advised to download a printout of the submitted application form from
their individual application dashboard. This form will be marked as “not verified” and may
not be claimed as a proof of submission without the submission acknowledgement
8.4. A programme wise merit list will be prepared for all eligible applications on the basis of the
programme wise criteria parameter(s) for each category as mentioned.
8.5. A programme wise selection and waiting lists for each category, as applicable, will be prepared
from the eligible applications based upon programme wise merit list and vacant seat matrix.
8.6. For programmes with specialisation, the selection and waiting lists for each category, as
applicable, will be prepared from the eligible applications based upon the merit list, applicants
preference and vacant seat matrix.
8.7. The eligible and valid applicants will then be offered option of enrolment for the course(s) to
which he/she has been selected, if any, and option of keeping up-gradation live (FLOAT) for the
course(s) to which he/she has been wait listed selected, if any.
8.8. All applicants MUST have to login to their individual dashboard and need to complete either or
both of the following steps –
A candidate may enrol to any ONE of the programmes to which selection has been offered to
him/her by paying the enrolment fee of Rs 2,400/- (Rupees Two Thousand Four Hundred
only) through online system.
Enrolment to One of the selected programme or Not enrolling to any of the selected
programmes will automatically remove the candidature from all other SELECTED
programmes, if any.
The wait list options will however remain active for exercising the option.
A candidate may keep his option of up-gradation (or fresh selection for those not offered any
selection in a round) to one or more of the wait listed programme live by marking the
specified programme(s) from amongst the wait listed programme(s) (Marked as FLOAT).
The candidature of an applicant will automatically be removed from the wait listed
programmes and not considered in subsequent round(s) unless the desired ones are
marked as “FLOAT”.
8.9. A Candidate enrolling for one selected programme and not opting for any wait listed programme,
if any, will be automatically frozen to the enrolled programme and will not be considered for
subsequent round(s).
8.10. ALL ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS MUST LOG INTO THE SYSTEM AT EACH ROUND TO KEEP HIS/HER
CANDIDATURE LIVE (BY ENROLLING OR MARKING FLOAT OR BOTH) UNLESS HE/SHE HAS
FROZEN THE ENROLMENT VIDE CLAUSE 8.9. NOT COMPLETING THIS PROCESS WILL
AUTOMATICALLY REMOVE THE CANDIDATURE WITHOUT FURTHER COMMUNICATION.
8.11. After each round, the status of valid candidates of that round will be published as –
Enrolled and Frozen
Enrolled and Float with list of wait listed programmes
Float with list of wait listed programmes
Removed for not exercising option
8.12. The process will run for TWO ROUNDS and the second round will be conducted by the same
process as mentioned vide clauses 8.7 to 8.11.
8.13. After Two rounds all enrolled students (frozen and float both) MUST have to take provisional
admission through online system in the programmes (with specialisation) they have been
enrolled to by paying the balance of the fees, if any. Not completing the admission process within
the scheduled time will automatically remove the applicant from the enrolled programme.
However the float option with active wait listed programme(s), if any, will remain live for the
wrap up round, if any.
8.14. Candidates, who have frozen their enrolled programme and are eligible for scholarship, may act
as per guidelines published by the scholarship providing authority, if any, after completing the
final admission process. These candidates will not be eligible for wrap up round, if any.

9. WRAP-UP ROUND
9.1. Wrap up round to fill up unfilled seats, if any, after regular rounds of admission may be conducted
and if conducted, will be open ONLY for the applicants having valid FLOAT status at the end of the
regular rounds of enrolment.
9.2. NO FRESH APPLICATION CAN BE MADE FOR THE WRAP-UP ROUND.
9.3. Details of the Wrap up round, if any, will be notified on the admission portal in due time.
