HOW TO CORRECTLY CONFIGURE BOTH LIEBERT APM VARIANCE IS DISCUSSED IN

THE SUCCEEDING DECTIONS.

1. Technical Notes:
a) Liebert APM is a true on line, double conversion, full IGBT UPS system in
accordance with IEC62040-3 (VFI SS II).
b) Liebert APM can deliver power from 30kVA/kW to 150kVA/kW in a single APM
cabinet. With its modularity & scalability, it can have an N+1 system internally
within a single or parallel Liebert APM cabinet without inbuilt distribution option.
c) Liebert APM offers online double conversion mode efficiency of up to 96% for 50%
to 100% load conditions.
d) UPS system can offer dual bus functionality by use of cables only.
e) Liebert APM Power Modules are hot-swappable and can be added or removed at
site for up-gradation or maintenance.
f) Liebert APM is factory set to 380V, 50Hz input/output configuration. However,
400V/415V, 50Hz/60Hz can be easily be site configured by using the UPS software
program.
g) Each of Liebert APM power modules in a single cabinet shares common batteries.
h) Each Liebert APM UPS system is fitted with a 150kVA rated static switch assembly
module.
i) The UPS system accepts 30-40 blocks of 12V battery or 180-240 cells.
j) Please contact CTS for any query on products and it’s configuration not found in

k) Please refer to the user manual for more details on Liebert APM.

The standard Liebert APM Uninterruptible Power Supply is designed for front and back access
and is supplied with power connection provisions for the following:

AC Input to Rectifier: 3-phase, 3-wire plus earth

AC Input to Bypass: 3-phase, 4-wire plus earth
AC Module Output: 3-phase, 3- or 4-wire plus earth
DC Module Input: Positive, negative and center point

2. UPS Components
Standard Supply
1. Liebert APM Cabinet
a. Standard 600mm x 1100mm x 2000mm server rack-look cabinet..
b. Bypass Module: Liebert APM is fitted with one static bypass module.
Bypass module has three (3) communication card slots which can offer
two (2) simultaneous monitoring option.
c. Switch Unit Module: Liebert APM is fitted with one switch unit module.
• For Liebert APM with output PDU & SPM option this module has
the input, output and maintenance bypass switch.
• For Liebert APM with modular battery option, this module has
only manual maintenance bypass switch.
d. LCD Panel: Liebert is equipped with a large 320 x 240 dot matrix graphic
LCD screen located at the front door of the UPS cabinet for user
interface.
2. Power Modules
Liebert APM uses modular scalable power modules in 30kVA / kW rating. Each
power modules are hot-swappable and can be added or removed at site provided
the remaining active power modules can support full capacity of the required load.
Minimum one Power module needs to be ordered with Liebert APM Cabinet.

Internal Options
1. Communication Options
Three (3) communication options are available to choose from depending on your
monitoring requirement. SNMP, Modbus & Relay cards are available. Please
choose the correct communication card from the table below.

External Options
1. Parallel Control Cable. (for APM with modular battery option ONLY!)
This is a cable option that is used for two (2) UPS up to four (4) connected in
parallel configuration.
2. Dual Bus Synchronization.
This is a cable option that is used for two (2) UPS in dual bus configuration. To
keep two independent units / systems synchronized.
3. Battery temperature Sensor.
Installed inside the battery cabinet to allow the DC charging voltage to be adjusted
automatically by the UPS controller in relation to the battery ambient temperature
to protect battery life.
4. External matching Battery Cabinet (non-modular battery cabinet)
Liebert APM standard battery cabinet in a standard 800mm x 1100mm x 2000mm
rack. It contains a battery disconnect circuit breaker. Depending on the battery to
be used, it can house 40 blocks of 90AH FM series Vision batteries inside. For
other battery rating, please contact CTS.
5. External Modular Battery Cabinet
Liebert APM standard battery cabinet in a standard 600mm x 1100mm x 2000mm
rack. It can hold up to 10 battery modules for extended back-up time requirement.
Multiple external modular battery cabinet can be paralleled to achieve desired
back-up time.

II. Liebert APM Version with Modular Battery Option

Please note that these are not applicable with the version with internal output distribution
option.

1. Technical Notes:
a) Liebert APM is a full modular UPS with hot-swappable power modules and internal
modular batteries in a single standard server rack (600mm x 1100mm) for up to
5min for a 90kVA UPS. A detailed battery runtime chart is shown in the following
section.
b) Liebert APM can be configured for a maximum of 150kVA requirement (150kVA,
120kVA+30kVA, 90kVA+60kVA, 60kVA+90kVA, 30kVA+120kVA). For increased
capacity or redundancy higher than 150kVA, Liebert APM can be paralleled up to a
maximum of up to four (4) Liebert APM modular UPS cabinet.
c) Please note that when paralleling two or more Liebert APM cabinets for capacity
enhancement (ex. 2 x 120kVA wherein the UPS will support a total load of 240kVA),
you need to add in bypass inductance chokes and if the total load is more than
150kVA. However, bypass inductance choke option for Liebert APM is currently
only available via SFA. Please contact CTS for this option.
d) Care should be taken when selecting the UPS rack cabinet as you have to select
the correct UPS rack cabinet configuration from the start to have the provision in
the future to upgrade Liebert APM either for redundancy or capacity.
e) Power modules can be site fitted anytime within the same UPS modular cabinet,
either for redundancy or up-gradation, without turning the whole UPS system into
bypass mode provided that the modular UPS rack cabinet is correctly sized from
the beginning to cater the additional power module/s.
f) Liebert APM has the option to choose from modular battery solution or
conventional battery option as required. Battery cabinets are available for each
requirement.
g) An external modular battery cabinet can house a maximum 10 battery modules for
extended battery back up requirement. Each battery modules contains 30 x 12V x
8AH battery blocks. Please refer to battery back-up time table below for the correct
modular battery configuration.
h) A conventional / standard matching battery cabinet (800mm x 1100mm) can also be
used that can house up to 40 blocks of 90AH battery (from Vision). For other
battery rating, please consult CTS for the correct configuration.
i) Please contact CTS for any query on products and it’s configuration not found in

module.
APM Rack cabinet cabled for 3 power module and 7
battery modules ONLY. This cabinet includes 1 x
30kW power module and 1 x 150kW STS. This
cabinet can accommodate up to 3 power modules

NXrE0303005 ONLY and can be configured as a 90kW or
Rack Cabinet 60kW+30kW or 30kW+60kW UPS ONLY. Up-
gradation of beyond 90kW is not allowed. For 90kVA
or 60kVA+30kVA requirement, you need to order two
additional power modules.
APM Rack cabinet cabled for 4 power module and 6
battery modules. This cabinet includes 1 x 30kW
power module and 1 x 150kW STS. This cabinet can
accommodate up to 4 power modules ONLY and can

III. Liebert APM Version with Inbuilt Output Distribution & Branch
Circuit Monitoring Option
(Please offer this only when you need integrated output distribution option)

1. Technical Notes:
a) Liebert APM with output distribution and branch circuit monitoring is an Adaptive
Power Manager that consists of UPS power modules, UPS output power
distribution modules and a branch distribution circuit monitoring system, all in a
single cabinet.
b) Liebert APM is a modular & scalable UPS system with up to 5 hot-swappable
power modules rated at 30kVA/kW each with a maximum configuration of
120kVA/kW (120kVA/kW +30kVA/kW).
c) Standard Cabinet of Liebert APM is fitted with internal maintenance bypass, Input,
output switches. Battery protection is not inbuilt. Please ensure that battery
protection e.g battery breaker or switch-fuse unit is arranged/provided at site that
helps in maintaining battery bank.
d) Please choose the correct output distribution option and branch circuit monitoring
option from the table below.
e) A conventional / standard matching battery cabinet (800mm x 1100mm) can house
up to 40 blocks of 90AH battery (from Vision). For other battery rating, please
consult CTS for the correct configuration. (Please contact CTS for the use modular
battery option with Liebert APM with PDU & SPM option)
f) Please contact CTS for any query on products and it’s configuration not found in

2. Liebert APM with inbuilt modular PDU Internal Options

a) Power Distribution Module

(a) Liebert APM can offer following two types of internal Power distribution
options, with or without Branch Circuit Monitoring Capabilities.
Maximum of three (3) output power distribution modules can be fitted in
one Liebert APM cabinet. Each module has 18 single MCBs with rating
from 10A-63A. Standard MCB rating is 25A if not otherwise stated when
ordering.
(i) Non-intelligent Distribution units (02352162 & 02352163) – This is
PDU assembly with basic distribution functionality only and does
not have provision for branch circuit monitoring.
(ii) Intelligent Distribution units (02352141 & 02352142) – This is PDU
assembly that comes with a provision for branch circuit monitoring.
In case Branch circuit Monitoring function is needed, even in future,
this type of PDU needs to be selected.
b) SPM / Branch Circuit Monitoring System
Optional SPM / BCMS can be used with Intelligent Power distribution Modules to
monitor load characteristics for each single phase branch and respective
measurements can be displayed in Liebert APM LCD panel. Only one (1) SPM
module is needed to monitor all three (3) output distribution modules.
