    General Do’s and Don’ts

    1. Get to know the client better, also what caste and community they belong to.
    2. Clarify their food preferences, (veg/non-veg)
    3. Ask if alcohol will be served
    4. Do a thorough background check on the client
    Pre Wedding Celebrations

    Engagement Ceremony

    The families exchange gifts,


    the bride also changes outfits,
    rings are exchanged and the
    maternal uncles officially
    announce the date of the
    wedding.
    Pre Wedding Celebrations

    Haldi & Mehendi

    An intimate affair where


    turmeric paste is applied to the
    bride and groom.

    A mehendi artist applies henna


    to the couple and close family
    members.
    Pre Wedding Celebrations

    Sangeet Function

    It’s a fun evening where the


    close family members, friends
    and cousins perform, dance
    and sing.

    The couple also may dedicate


    performances for each other.
    Pandakkal
    5 married ladies perform a
    puja with a bamboo stick
    and pray for the successful
    culmination of the marriage.

    It ends with breaking a


    coconut which symbolises
    that the marriage can now
    officially begin.
    Mangal Snanam
    The bride and groom take a
    bath with chandan and oil.

    They are gifted a saree


    (bride) and vesti (groom) by
    their respective in-laws
    which they wear for the
    marriage rituals.
    Kashi Yatra
    Groom abandons the
    wedding and leaves for a
    pilgrimage and is stopped by
    the brother and father of the
    bride.
    Oonjal
    Includes exchange of
    garlands, kanyadaan,
    sindoor, mangalsutra.

    They are fed milk with


    banana.

    The couple wash their


    parents feet and take their
    blessings.
    Tol Mahaple &
    Tol Ponna
    Tol Mahaple is the brother
    in law or maternal uncle.

    Tol Ponna is the unmarried


    sister of the bride.
    Wedding Games
    Find the ring and
    Appalam Udaithal are 2
    among many others.
    Reception
    All the guests
    congratulate the couple.
    Farewell
    The bride bids adieu to
    her family and the
    couple leave to go to
    their new home.
    Grihapravesham
    The bride is welcomed
    by the groom’s family.
    Satyanarayan
    Puja
    Typically happens the
    day after. The bride also
    prepares payasam for all
    the guests.
    Maruvidu Dev
    Varudal Darshan

    The bride visits her parents The couple visit the temples
    house with the groom. and sacred places and seek
    blessings of the Almighty.
