Design of Mass Spring System On Simulink

The document describes designing a mass spring system in Simulink to check its working and damping. It involves using a mass, spring, base, scope and summation blocks in Simulink. The mass is suspended by a spring according to Hooke's law, with the spring force proportional to displacement. When the spring is stretched, potential energy is stored and released as kinetic energy when it oscillates. The procedure involves opening Simulink, adding tools, joining them in a circuit, and observing the sinusoidal output graph on the scope. The conclusion is that the author learned to make a mass spring system in Simulink and understand how MATLAB is used.

Design of Mass Spring System on Simulink

Objective:
To design a mass spring system in MATLAB Simulink software.

Software:
MATLAB Simulink

Task:
To check working and damping of spring system.

Purpose:
I made this project to check the working of the mas spring system in LabVIEW.

Equipment:
➢ Spring
➢ Base
➢ Mass
➢ Scope
➢ Summation
Theory:
Mass spring system:
The mass of m (kg) is suspended by the spring force. The spring force acting on
the mass is given as the product of the spring constant k (N/m) and displacement of mass x
(m) according to Hook's law. A motion equation of the mass-spring mechanical system is
expressed

.
Working principle:
Upon stretching the spring, energy is stored in the springs' bonds as potential energy. This
potential energy is released when the spring is allowed to oscillate. The maximum
speed is accomplished when the spring returns to its equilibrium position (PEsm=0), and
all energy is kinetic energy.

Advantages:
✓ Easy Calculation
✓ Simple & Reliable
✓ Durable & Efficient

Disadvantages:
▪ Spring system is not always accurate.
▪ Fluctuation in mass leads to wrong calculation.

Block Diagram:
Procedure:
1. First, I opened the LMATLAB software.
2. Then I created a Simulink project.
3. Then I took tools placed them on the blank page.
4. Then I joined step to sum, sum to gain and then gain to integrator.
5. Then I joined integrator to another integrator.
6. Then I connected reverse gain to minus and to output of second integrator.
7. Then I joined output of second integrator to scope.
8. Then I opened the scope to view the output.
9. Then I observed the graph and completed the experiment.

Description of parameters:
We have total two parameters mass and spring.
and there is K which is called spring constant.

Data:
We have two basic components spring and mass.
When the spring is stretched the kinetic energy increases and then the mass will move back
and forth. If force is applied at greater value the kinetic energy increases and if mass is
heavy then we have to apply more force.
Data analysis:
As we can see the graph, we get output of the graph and observe it. The response is
sinusoidal waveform of the output. The period is approximately 3.14. There is no damping
in the system.

Conclusions:
I became able to know how then Simulink is used to make the Mass spring system. I also
became able to know about the MATLAB. I became able to make Mass spring system on
Simulink MATLAB.
