A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GENERAL BIOLOGY 2

Name: Josephine Cabag - Avendano Quarter: 4 Observation No. _____

Grade Level and Section: 11 - STEM Date: June 10, 2021

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
1. enumerate the scientists and cite their respective contribution in the development of evolutionary
thoughts;
2. describe Jean Baptiste Lamarck’s hypothesis on evolutionary stage;
3. discuss Charles Darwin’s Theory of evolution by natural selection and;
4. explain Modern Synthesis as the unified theory of evolution.

II.SUBJECT MATTER: EVOLUTIONARY THOUGHTS

MELCS: Trace the development of evolutionary thought
Code: STEM_BIO11/12-IIIc-g-11

Materials: Powerpoint Presentation, Pen and Paper

III. PROCEDURES:
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance
4. Online Class Reminders and Etiquette

B. Review

From our previous lesson, what is Specification? The process that results in the evolution of a
species or the way in which species came into
existence
Very Good!

C. Motivation

Now, before we start our lesson, let us first exercise

your brain by playing “LET’S SING ALONG”

The mechanics of this game is I am going to give you a

part and the tone of a song and you will sing it in ten
times before you answer the question.
Are the mechanics clear? Yes Ma’am!

Alright, let’s begin!

Bahay-kubo, kahit munti

Ang halaman doon ay sari-sari
Singkamas at talong
Sigarilyas at mani
Sitaw, bataw, patani

Good Job! You are a great singers!

D. Presentation

And now that you are energized, let’s now have our
activity

Activity 1: LET’S INVESTIGATE

This activity will help you understand the different trends

exist from time to time

I will flash some pictures as well as videos on the

screen, and you are going to describe what is being
projected on your screen
Yes Ma’am!
Are you ready?

1. Evolution of make up looks

2. . Evolution of fashion

3. Evolution of games and hobbies

Good Job! Based on our activity, do you have an idea, Ma’am it’s all about evolution!
what will be our topic for today?

Good! Then what is evolution? Ma’am Evolution is the change in the

characteristics of a species over several generations

E. Lesson Proper
(Indicator 1)

EVOLUTION- the process by which different kinds of

living organisms are thought to have developed and
diversified from earlier forms during the history of the
earth.

HISTORY OF EVOLUTIONARY THEORIES

1. Anaximander (6th Century BC)

He Argued that the men arose from fishes

He relied on reasoning, not supernatural explanations

2. Plato (427 – 347 BC)

Believed in 2 worlds:

a.) the real world (ideal and eternal), and

b.) an illusionary world (imperfect and perceived through
the senses).

3. Aristotle (384 – 322 BC)

Believed that all living organisms could be arranged in a

“scale of nature” or Great Chain of Being.

The ladder of life consists of graduation from inanimate

material through plants, through lower animals and
humans to other spiritual beings.

Where does the chain begins?

Ma’am The chain begins with God and descends
through angels, humans, animals, and plants, to
minerals.

That’s Right! The chain explains that God id at the top of

the angels and the lowest part of the hierarchy are the
minerals.

4. Catastrophism
The idea that living things are created and remains
unchanged since the beginning.

What is the religious belief on how life begins on earth? It is called creationism

5. Creationism

It is the religious belief that nature, and aspects such as

the universe, Earth, life, and humans, originated with
supernatural acts of divine creation.

6. James Ussher (1581 – 1656)

Argued that humankind are created

He based his calculations on biblical history and

astronomy

7. Nicholas Steno (1638 – 1686)

What is Stratigraphy?
These are the sediments deposited by water in a
sequence
That’s Right! is the science of understanding the
variations in the successively layered character of Rocks
and their composition.
8. Robert Hooke
Fossils are mineralized remains of a lifeforms
He described Fossils. What is Fossils?
Very Good! Recognized them as of extinct or early
formative creatures

9. Carolous Linnaeus (1707 – 1778)

Established the modern system of taxonomy in an

attempt to discover order in the diversity of life “for the
greater glory of God”.

What do you call the book written by Carolous It is called Systema Naturae
Linnaeus?

The Systema Naturae is a book of binomial

nomenclature introduced by a Swedish botanist,
zoologist and physician Carolous Linnaeus as the basis
for Linnaean taxonomy.

10. George Cuvier (1769 – 1832)

He compared the anatomy of present lifeforms with
those of the fossil forms

11. Georges – Louis Leclerc (Comte de Buffon,

1707 – 1788)
He observed that the tides and currents of seas are
uniform through time

He concluded that the earth had to be older than 6000

years

12. James Hutton (1726 – 1797)

Discovered Uniformity in 3 processes
a. Deposit of strata under oceans
What are the three processes of uniformity? b. Uplifting of sea beds to above sea level by
volcanic action
c. Land erosion by water, wind and decay

13. Charles Lyell (1797 – 1875)

Espoused extreme form of uniformitarianism by denying
catastrophism

He also believed that

natural forces now changing the shape of the earth’s
surface have been operating in
the past much the same way

14. Jean Baptiste Lamarck

He was the first biologist to believe that life forms
Evolve.

He proposed the Inheritance of Acquired

Characteristics, which is also called
Lamarckian Evolution.
Lamarckian Theory is known as Theory of Used and
Can you describe Lamarckian Theory? Misused in which, if you don’t use it, you lose it.

Exactly! Theory was based on NEED

Organs needed if environmental stresses its function,
while those organs not needed gradually disappeared
because of disuse.
15. Charles Darwin (1809 – 1882)
He is known for Natural Selection Theory

How does he belong to Beagle Expedition?

He offered a position (in 1831) as the ship’s naturalist on
the H.M.S. Beagle, which was going on an expedition to
He observed that the pigeons, horses, and dogs were chart the waters of South America.
subjected to artificial selection in order to improve their
breeding

On Galapagos Island in 1832, he spent most of his time

to observe different species

16. Alfred Russel Wallace

Independent of Darwin, also developed ideas that were
very similar to Darwin’s – they presented their ideas
jointly to the public in 1858 (Linnaean Society in London)

F. Application
Compare and Contrast
On a clean short bond paper, compare and contrast
Lamarck's Theory to Darwin’s Theory using Venn
Diagram

G. Generalization
Anyone from the group can generalized our topic for
today? Ma’am Evolution is the change in the characteristics of a
species over several generations. There are different
theories and people that will explain the origins of life
such as catastrophism, creationism and uniformitarianism.
IV. Evaluation
Direction:
Identify the following items.
_______1. He established the modern system of taxonomy
_______2. This Theory explains that if you don’t use it, you lose it.
_______3. He believed that the men arises from fishes.
_______4. This placed all lifeforms in a hierarchical system of existence from lowest to highest.
_______5. Charles Darwin stayed in this place for a long time to observe some species.
B. Using your own words, describe the Evolutionary Theories
a. Catastrophism d. Theory of Use and Disuse
b. Creationism e. Theory of Natural Selection
c. Uniformitarianism
V. ASSIGNMENT
VI. On a short bond paper, make a family Tree of your ancestors
