1. A three phase, 5 hp, 208V, 60 hz induction motor runs at 1746 rpm when it delivers
rated output power. Determine:
(a) number of poles of machine (4)
(b) slip at full load (0.03)
(c) frequency of rotor current (1.8 hz)
(d) speed of rotor field with respect to stator and stator rotating field (1800,0)

2. The following test results are obtained from a three phase, 100 hp, 460V, 8-pole, star
connected squirrel cage induction machine:
(a) No load test: 460V, 60hz,40A,4.2 kW
(b) Blocked rotor test: 100V, 60hz, 140A,8 kw
The average resistance measured by a dc bridge between two stator terminals is 0.152
ohms.
(a) Determine no load rotational loss (3895 W)
(b) Determine parameters of the equivalent circuit(0.076,0.061, 0.1947 , 0.1947, 6.38)

3. A 3-φ, 280V,60hz, 20hp, 4-p induction motor has the following equivalent parameter:
R1 = 0.12Ω, R10 = 0.1Ω,X1 = X20 = 0.25Ω,X0 = 10Ω,Protl oss = 400W , s = 0.05.
Determine:
(a) Motor speed
(b) motor current
(c) stator copper loss
(d) air-gap power
(e) rotor cu- loss
(f) shaft power
(g) developed torque and shaft torque
(h) efficiency

4. A 40 kw, 3-phase slip ring induction motor of negligible stator impedance at a speed of
0.96 times synchronous speed at rated torque. The slip at maximum torque is 4 times the
full- load value. If the rotor resistance of the motor is increased by 5-times, determine:
(a) The speed, power o/p and rotor copper loss at rated torque. Hint:

5. An 8-pole, 3-phase, 600 spread double layer winding has 72 coils in 72 slots. The coils
are short pitched by two slots. Calculate the winding factor for fundamental and third
harmonic.(0.33)

6. A 3-phase, 4-pole, 50 hz, star connected alternator has 60 slots with two conductor per
slot and having armature winding of the double layer type. Coils are short pitched, that
is, if one coil side lies in slot number 1, the other coil side lies in slot number 13. Find
the useful flux per pole required to induced a line voltage of 6.6 kV.(0.9433 Wb)

7. A 3-phase star connected synchronous generator is rated at 1.5 MVA, 11kV. The arma-
ture effective resistance and synchronous reactance are 1.2 and 25 ohms respectively per
phase. Calculate the percentage voltage regulation for a load of 1.4375 MVA at i. 0.8
pf leading ii. 0.8 pf lagging. Also find the pf at which regulation becomes zero. (21.6,
-13.1, 0.99 lead)

8. A 3-phase, 415V, 6-pole, 50 hz star connected synchronos motor has emf of 520V(L-L).
The stator winding has synchronous reactance of 2 ohms per phase and motor develops
a torque of 220 Nm. The motor is operating at 415V, 50 hz. Calculate:
(a) current from supply and p.f (0.767 lead pf)
(b) phasor diagram

9. The constants of on quarter H.P, 230V, 4-pole, 60 hz, single phase induction motor are
as follows:
R1 = 10Ω,R20 = 10Ω, X1 = 10Ω,X20 = 10Ω, Xm = 258Ω, slip = 0.03 at voltage 210 V,
Pi 35.5W Calculate:
(a) input power
(b) shaft power
(c) power developed(171.05 W)
(d) efficiency (0.63)
