Research Assumptions 6

Qualitative research involves interacting with people to understand their perspectives and experiences. It assumes there are multiple realities that can be understood through descriptive fieldwork like interviews and observation. The research design remains flexible as the researcher seeks to understand different viewpoints and verify findings by comparing to participants. Common practices in qualitative research include a flexible design adapted to the field, using field-based textual data rather than numbers, and interpreting varied data sources through different techniques.

Q. What is qualitative research?

The research that is conducted with the purpose of acquiring information about the nature,
behaviours, thoughts, culture of persons is known as qualitative research.

Assumptions of qualitative research.

1. Interaction: Qualitative research assumes that there must be interaction with people
living in society to find out their real conditions. While conducting qualitative research, has
to understand the issue of research from participant's perspective.

2. Fieldwork: Qualitative research assumes that researcher has to visit in field or the place
about where research is being conducted. For that researcher can do survey, interview and
use other direct methods to gather data.

3. Descriptive: Qualitative research is descriptive. It is assumed that descriptive result will

help researcher, outsiders to understand about the result.Organization can easily
generalize it easily for their employees.

4. Inductive approach: Qualitative research is based on inductive approach. It helps to

insist the new concept in existing theory. It does not only cover the propounded theory.

5. Multiple perspectives: Qualitative research covers multiple prespective by including the

ideas of different persons of different situation in research work.

6. Multiple realities:Qualitative research assumes that social events are developed from
different realities. So, researcher should interact with each event to kmow the realities
while conducting research.

7. Verification: Qualitative research believes that the truthness of any information can be
checked up by comparing with the persons who provides information. So, qualitative
researcher draws result by comparing with participants answers.

Common Practices in Qualitative Research

1. Flexible Design: Normally, researcher has to visit in field site for conducting qualitative
research. A pre-set research design will not cover the reality in qualitative research. So
flexible research design should be made by researcher to conduct the research.

2. Field Based Data: Qualitative researcher used field based data that they have collected
from field work in form of diary, newspaper, article, and other past documents.

3. No use of numeric data: Qualitative researchers do not use numeric data. They have to
collect data through survey of focused group, observation, interview, etc.
4. Different Interpretation: Qualitative researcher should use different interpretation
techniques to interpret data because they have collected data from different sources which
have also the different nature.
