and Section E.
(3) Section A contains ten very short answer questions, assertion reasoning, MCQs
of 1 mark each.

equipotential surface of the system. 1

3. Sketch the electric field lines for two-point charges q1 and q2 for q1> q2
separated by a distance d. 1

4. What is the electric flux through a cube of side 1cm which encloses an electric
dipole? 1

5. What orientation of an electric dipole in a uniform electric field corresponds to

its(i) stable and (ii) unstable equilibrium? 1

6. Define Electric dipole moment. What is its SI unit? 1

7. Why do electrostatic field lines not form closed loops? 1

8. Draw an equipotential surface in a uniform electric field. 1

XII-Physics UT 2
For question number 9, 10, two statements are given-one labelled Assertion (A)
and the other labelled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions
from the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) as given below.
a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
b) Both A and R are true but R is NOT the correct explanation of A
c) A is true but R is false
d) A is false and R is also false
9. Assertion(A) : If the distance between parallel plates of a capacitor is halved and
dielectric constant is three times, then the capacitance becomes 6 times.
Reason(R) : Capacity of the capacitor does not depend upon the nature of the
material.
10. Assertion(A) : Two equipotential surfaces cannot cut each other.
Reason(R) : Two equipotential surfaces are parallel to each other.
Section B (Case Study Based Question)
Attempt any 4 sub parts. Each part carries 1 mark.
11. Vivek was studying in his room. Suddenly he observed that the speed of his fan
was going on decreasing from last two days. His father explained that there is a
device in fan which maintain the speed. His father also explained that how the
device is connected in circuit. His father also told that AC circuit becomes
inductive when this device is connected in circuit. A phase difference arises due
to which leads to generate rotating magnetic fields and hence produce torque to
rotor for rotating.
Read the following questions and answer:
(i) Name the device used. 1
(ii) What is the relation between energy stored in these devices and energy?
supplied by the battery, when this device is charged by a battery? 1
(a) Energy stored is greater
(b) Energy supplied is greater
(c) Both are equal
(d) not defined
(iii) What will happen to the energy stored, if we increase the distance between the
charged plates of this device? 1
(a) Increases (b) decreases (c) remain same (d) (a) and (b)
(iv) Capacity can be increases by combining these devices in: 1
(a) Series (b) parallel (c) both (a) and (b) (d) none of these
(v) Which of the following remain same, when these devices are connected in series?
(a) Voltage (b) Capacitance (c) Charge (d) resistance 1
Section C
12. Derive the formula for the force and torque on an electric dipole kept in a
uniform electric field. 2

13. Two concentric metallic spherical shells of radii R and 2R are given charges Q1
and Q2 respectively. The surface charges densities on the outer surfaces of the
shells are equal. Determine the ratio Q1:Q2. 2

14. (a) Define Electric flux. Write its SI unit.

(b) State Gauss law. 2

15. The electric flux over a sphere of radius 1m is ϕ. If radius of the sphere were
