Climate of Thane region
• The climate is tropical in Thane.
• There is significant rainfall in most months of the year.
• The short dry season has little effect on the overall climate.
• The average annual temperature in Thane is 26.9 °C | 80.4 °F.
• The rainfall here is around 2667
mm 105.0 inch per year.
• The climate on the plains at the
foot of the slopes (Kalyan, Bhiwandi,
Ulhasnagar, Ambarnath) and on the
eastern slopes of Sahyadri (Murbad,
Shahapur, Jawhar talukas) is
comparatively less humid
Sun path and wind direction
• The sun moves from
east to west via south.
• The wind direction is
generally from south to
north. The speed is on
an average of 9km/h.
Vegetation
• the vegetation of the district corresponds to the
“southern tropical moist deciduous forests”
• The density of the forest ranges between 0.5 to 0.8.
Water bodies
• The two main rivers flowing through the district are the
Ulhas and the Vaitarna.
• The water of the Ulhas river is used to supply water to the
cities of Badlapur, Navi Mumbai , Kalyan and Dombivali
• The river has many tributaries; the two most important of
them (within the boundaries of this district) are the Bari
and the Bhatia.
• Many small creeks are found all along the western coast, in
which tidal waters flood upstream and fill up much low
ground. In many cases human interference has helped in
converting them into mud flats.
• The bigger creeks are Bhiwandi, Chinghai, and Dachau
Creeks. The Thane Creek is not a creek in the true sense,
but a depression engulfed by the sea
• The Tansa Lake formed across the Tansa River in the hills
north of Bhiwandi behind the dam completed in 1892 CE.
• The Modak Sagar (Lower Vaitarna) Lake on the river Vaitarna
formed behind a dam completed in 1957 CE.
• In the upper reaches of the same river, the Upper Vaitarana
Lake formed behind another dam built in 1972 CE.
• The Bhatsa Lake has been formed in the upper Bhatsa, north
of Shahapur behind a dam built in 1981 CE.
• Tourism Nature lovers proudly call Thane as a “Lake City” or
"city of lakes"
• The district has no natural lakes. Artificial lakes have
been constructed mainly to supply drinking water to
Mumbai.
• The different water bodies in the area are:-
Tulsi lake: 10.9 km away from Talao pali
Mithi river: 19.2 km away from Talao pali

DEMOGRAPHICS
DEMOGRAPHICS
• As per provisional reports of Census India, population of Thane in 2011 is 1,841,488; of which
male and female are 975,399 and 866,089 respectively. Although Thane city has population
of 1,841,488; its urban / metropolitan population is 18,394,912 of which 9,872,271 are
males and 8,522,641 are females.
PSYCHOLOGY OF TEENS

• Teens are undergoing dramatic changes. In

addition to the biological changes of puberty,
they experience cognitive changes that allow
them to think more abstractly. They become
increasingly focused on friends.
• The special nature of the teenage brain means
adolescence is a time to foster the growth of
skills the teen brain is especially primed for like
emotional engagement, social relationships,
novelty seeking, and creativity.
PSYCHOLOGY
OF
SPACE
PSYCHOLOGY OF TEENS

• A changing brain means a changing identity:

Because of all the changes that are occurring in the brain, as well as in their social and
academic world, teens have a deep need to define themselves, to clarify who they are and
what they stand for. As they are losing their pre-adolescent identity, they are desperate for
a new identity.
• Often the new identity is supplied by their peer group, for better or for worse. Because
the teen doesn't know clearly what they want or what they can do, they like to try many
different things. This helps them discover what works for them, what feels right, and who
they are becoming.
• Supervised exploration of new territory should be encouraged. Teenagers need guidance,
not unrestricted freedom. They need novelty, but within bounds.
ACTIVITIES OF TEENS
• Sometimes, it's easy to get so caught up with work, sports, school, and other
outside activities, that there's little time to spend together as a family. Many
teens also aren't interested in spending too much time together as a family. It's
developmentally normal for them to want to be surrounded by their friends and
their own activities as they gain independence.
• Sit down and talk about your teen's day.
• Volunteer together.
• Make dinner together.
• Solve a problem together.
• It could involve a household issue, like how to keep clutter from collecting on
the table, or bigger problems of the world, like poverty.Attend a music festival.
ACTIVITIES OF TEENS
• Cooking.
• Sports (basketball, football, badminton, swimming, cricket)
• Indoor games (carrom, chess, table tennis, pool, cards)
• Dancing, acting, yoga, etc.
• Fitness
• BOATING
• HORSE RIDING
• WATER SCOOTER SERVICES
ACTIVITIES OF TEENS
• Research your family tree.
• Visit your library.
• Do a puzzle and frame it.
• Plant a garden in the backyard or a potted indoor garden.
• Go to a reading by a local author.
• Play catch.
• Have a picnic.
• Go to a museum.
• Learn woodworking together.etc

INTRODUCTION
 Thane is one of the 36 districts in the
Maharashtra state of India. The district is
on the western coast and falls under the
Konkan division of the state
 With history dating it back to 1817, Thane
today offers some stark contrasts. On one
hand, with the ongoing urbanisation Thane
city is dotted with skyscrapers, swank
malls and multiplexes, flyovers and wide
roads, and on the other, barely a few
score km away are some of the most
wretched tribal villages and hamlets in the
hilly forested regions and tiny fishing
villages on the coast
HISTORY
 The ancient city of Thane, capital of the Shilahara
kings of Konkan, was apparently a land grant from
Ankisara Devraja, sovereign of the city of
Tagara.According to European travelers, it was a well
developed port.
 The Portugesecame to the city in 1530 and ruled it for
200 years before it was captured byMarathas in 1739.
The city is known for the first railway line in the
country(Mumbai to Thane in 1853). In 1863, the first
Municipal Council was formed. As a result of growth of
population the status of Municipal Corporation was
grantedto Thane city and surrounding areas in 1982.
LAKES
 Thane was known as city of lakes – with more
than 100 lakes
 At present,TMC has about 35 rain fed lakes
and a few of them have become major
recreational attractions.The overall water
quality of lakes has been found deteriorated
and TMC is making efforts to improve the
state of lakes by undertaking “Lake
Beatification Remediation Program” with the
support of MOEF, GOI.
RECENT HISTORY

 Until 1 August 2014 the district was divided into 15 talukas. However, on that date the
district was split in two with the creation of a new Palghar district, which took 8 of
these talukas, leaving the reduced Thane district comprising Thane, Kalyan, Murbad,
Bhiwandi, Shahapur, Ulhasnagar and Ambarnath talukas

 YEAR-EVENTS
 1340. Ibna-Batula wrote about Thane
 1774. Thane population crosses 9000.
 1835-1836. Civil Hospital built.
 1853. Bombay - Thane Railway Line
 1863. Thane Muncipal Corporation inauguration
 1922. Central Maidan resumed as Play ground
 1972. New Thane Creek bridge joining Sion and Panvel completed.
 1980. Dnyan Sadhana College started
Socio cultural history

 The natives of Thane belong to Agri and Koli communities who still inhabit the
villages scattered in and around the Thane District.
 They have retained their culture and heritage over the centuries and
protected it from the heavy torrents of modernization.
 During the Portuguese and British Rule over India, Thane was also occupied by
Portuguese, English and local (converted) Roman Catholics. The historic phases
in the period of Thane has resulted into various settlements.
 Apart from the predominance of Maharashtrian culture, Marathi people, a
sizable population of North Indians, South Indians, Gujratis and Marwaris are
also settled here.

FLOOD CONDITIONS

 The Talaopali Lake, which is surrounded by

roads that experience heavy traffic spilled over
onto those roads, making them even more
waterlogged.
 When the water spilled across onto the main
road, vehicles were skidding and having
problems with the excess water on the roads
 The shops around the lake had water gushing
inside them, even after they downed the
shutters.
REASON FOR WATER LOGGING
 There were many lakes in the city several decades
ago. Water from Yeoor hills used to flow into these
lakes and fill them up every monsoon. Natural streams
carried the water to these lakes and the creek on the
other side of the city. The lake water was also a source
of water during summer. However, the unplanned real
estate development buried the natural water streams.
The areas around lakes are filled with encroachments
and the boundaries are concretised, leaving no space
for the water to seep into
 There are years of neglect and pollution which has led
to the water pathways being clogged, be it natural or
man-made. There is nowhere the water could go and
that is why it’s overflowing and reaching house .
CONCLUSION

 Thane district has a significant importance as it has been a trade center since
ancient times. It is also the most populated district in our nation
 ActivitiesWe would like to conclude saying that there are major 3 activite in
the lake i.e. Boating, visit to Shiv temple , and visit to the Shivaji Statue.
