Presentation
Do you like bonding with your friends? Do you miss
bonding with your classmates?
What bonding moments do you experience right now
considering that we have the pandemic?
Bonding with other humans is very important for our
social and emotional state.
Do you know that atoms bond as well? What do we Chemical Bonding
call that?
Very Good!
Chemical bonding is a lasting attraction between
atoms, ions or molecules that enables the formation
of chemical compounds.
Today, before you will identify the different types of
compounds as ionic or covalent based on their
properties, let us try to loosen up with the
technicalities of chemical bonds and listen to this
“Chemical Bonding” song. This song may not be within
your genre but it’s a very common song you’ve heard
in your favorite radio stations, videoke bar, or
hummed by you mother. Join this music just for fun.
C. Explain
From the activity, you were able to identify the
different types of compounds according to its
properties.
Can you identify what are these properties of
compound?
What types of atoms are involved in ionic
compounds? How about in covalent compounds?
How do the elements of ionic compounds bond?
How do the elements of covalent compounds bond?
What is the physical state of ionic compounds?
What is the physical state of covalent compounds?
How will you differentiate ionic and covalent bond
according to melting/boiling point?
How about solubility in water?
Which type of compound conducts electricity?
You did great! We can now proceed to our next task.
D. Elaborate
Which of these compounds is found on your kitchen Salt
right now? Na and Cl
What elements comprises the table salt? Ionic Compound
What type of compound is it?
Why are compounds important in our life especially
now that we are experiencing a pandemic?
Aside from salt, what are other important compounds
we have in the kitchen?
You are right! Compounds are very important in our
daily life, these compounds have become an essential
part of our growth and survival especially now that we
are having a pandemic. We encounter these
compounds in the food we eat, the water we drink
and the air we breathe.
E. Evaluate
Let us now check your understanding!
Directions: Choose the letter of the correct answer and place it on the corresponding space before the number.
