As the name suggests, the Online job Application System is a system that gives information
related to job vacancies that are present in various parts of the country. In this case the system
is aimed at developing and building an Online search system for job applicants who are
undergraduates in this case. The system project is an online web application which can be
accessed anywhere only with proper login provided. Job seekers (Undergraduates) should be
able to login and upload their curriculum vitae. Companies or Organizations may also login and
access or search any information uploaded by Job seekers .

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Unemployment is a major problem in Kenya. It has made many young University
graduates/undergraduates demoralized. Unemployment rate has risen so high that in every 10
young people, close to 4 are jobless with requisite qualifications. Successive governments have
done little to arrest the situation.
In Kenya, once an individual is 18years, they apply for national identity card which
symbolizes that they are no longer a minor. Kenyan constitution defines a youth as an individual
in the republic aged between 18-34 years. The greatest concern of youth unemployment in
Nairobi has been on the increase /as many youths usually relocate to the city, to search for
better jobs. Because of the competition that exists among the youth, employment has been
affected by ‘who is presenting your case notion’ thereby rendering many youths who lack
proper network to get jobs.
The main effects of unemployment are crime, corruption, nepotism and favors, high
dependency and drug abuse. Being a job creator rather than a job seeker is the major solution
of unemployment in Kenya. The question here is how this could be made efficient and possible.
The question /problem can be solved by an Online Job application system. Due to this change in
technology ,this system is designed to provide a platform for companies and other cable
graduates (employers) recruit their employees .Job seekers (undergraduates) apply and upload
their curriculum vitae depending on the type of course one has done. The system not only
provide job opportunities for undergraduates but also provide a platform, for learning the
required skills on the course one has done this is through internships and attachment that are
uploaded by the organizations or companies.
The use of internet is also frequent then developing an Online Job application system will be of
great impact to job seekers and employers. The system will be reliable because most Kenyans
are ever using the internet for browsing and entertainment. The online job application system
will use the internet to advertise and find best people for jobs.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Achieving full employment is considered to be one of the essential components of realizing
the economic objectives of a nation, In Kenya, almost all political manifestos promise to
eradicate unemployment and particularly youth unemployment. However, the country faces
significant unemployment levels with young people being the most affected.
Unemployment has brought poor health, increased dependency, lack of adequate income,
rural-urban migration, social isolation, less of self-confidence and esteem depression and
increased divorce cases all which have affected development. In the current Kenya where
technology is also advancing most job recruitment process has a bit changed though some
problems still occur. The problems with this current system include;
1. Its expensive for the Job seeker to submit the application form in person to the
company.
2. Paper work still exist as the application form is downloaded instead of being submitted
online.
3. There is no change of uploading curriculum vitae and also the members cannot update
their profile.
All the above mentioned problems can be solved with development of the Web portal
where job seekers can create their accounts , upload their CV , apply jobs online and
update their profile regularly and wait for a reply Moreover, the job seeker has a chance
to apply the best job that suits his or her specific job skills.

any part of the world using internet connection. Graduates / undergraduates will be able to
apply the best jibs that suits his or her specific job skills. The system will also provide a platform
to Organizations /graduates who want to start their companies to login access and upload any
information on job vacancies and also search any information uploaded by job seekers.
Many people will be helped in job application due to user friendliness of the system. The
system will be a solution to many who were in need of their dream jobs because they will
search for it online and be able to apply online too.
