Theoretical Framework: The Methodological Framework Emerges From The Conceptual Framework

The document discusses the conceptual and theoretical frameworks for analyzing an air conditioning system. It provides background on direct expansion refrigeration systems and their limitations for large buildings. Chilled water systems are presented as better for large, complex HVAC applications. The conceptual framework section describes the initial air-conditioning system used at an office, which utilized air-cooled chillers and manually operated primary/secondary chilled water pumps. Issues with high energy consumption during start-up and summer loads are also noted.

Theoretical Framework

• It defines the relationship of all the variables (key concepts)

Definition of Conceptual Framework

A conceptual framework represents the researcher’s synthesis of literature on

how to explain a phenomenon. It maps out the actions required in the course of the
study given his previous knowledge of other researchers’ point of view and his
observations on the subject of research.

The methodological framework emerges from the conceptual framework

“The methodology section of a research paper answers two main questions: How was the data
collected or generated? And how was it analyzed?”

Theoretical Framework

Centralized Air Conditioning System is the best system to

design from the standpoint of commercial acceptance for a large

space building to be air conditioned. Serving water as its

secondary refrigerant would be wise enough to consider in

making the system works in which these project best describes.

The basic vapour-compression cycle(see fig.1), when applied

directly to the job of building cooling is referred to as Direct

Expansion (DX) refrigeration system. This reference comes from

the fact that the building indoor air that is to be cooled passes

directly over the refrigerant evaporator without a secondary

refrigerant being utilized. While these cooling systems are widely

used in residential, commercial, and industrial applications, they

have application, capacity, and performance limitations that

reduce their use in larger, complex HVAC applications. For these

applications, the use of chilled water systems is dictated.

Figure 1. Basic Vapour compression cycle

Chillers are a key component of air conditioning systems for

large buildings. They produce cold water to remove heat from the

air in the building. They also provide cooling for process loads

such as file-server rooms and large medical imaging equipment.

As with other types of air conditioning systems, most chillers

extract heat from water by mechanically compressing a

refrigerant.
Conceptual Framework

During at first start of operations the air-conditioning

system used at the office was air-cooled chillers, screw type

compressors, manually operated including the primary and

secondary chilled water pumps.

Figure 2. Chilled water system

Every start-up of the chillers, the energy consumption raises

very high especially on summer time when the load requirement

is very high giving no considerable time for the chillers to rest

before it will run again in order to maintain the desired output

being put at the specification of the control system and

sometimes will almost hit to its maximum load capacity because

of using air to condense the superheated gas refrigerant into

liquid prior entering the expansion valve as liquid meeting the

basic refrigeration cycle starts again.
