Logiturn® II
Installation Manual

1.1 Electrical installation overview

1.1.1 General installation guidelines

 In order to comply with EMC guidelines, shielded cables must be used for
connections between the power supply and the control panel.
 The shielding of the connecting cable must only be connected at one point to the
ground potential (PE connection) to avoid equalizing currents via the shield.
Grounding point A (see 1.2.3) in the power supply is preferred.
For details regarding this connection, please see the POWER SUPPLY
INSTALLATION MANUAL.
 The cables between the power supply and the turnstile should be kept as short as
possible to avoid unnecessary drops in potential.

1.1.2 Power supply

The following power supply units are available for Logiturn turnstiles:

Item no. Component Connection

6P920 Power supply 1 turnstile + 1 control panel
24V/100VA
6P930 Power supply 2 turnstiles + 1 control panel
24V/200VA

The output of the power supply (0 V~, 24 V~) must be connected to the power supply
terminals ((0 V~IN, 24 V~IN) of the turnstile control (X01A).
A 2nd turnstile can be connected via the unprotected power output of the control board
(X01B).
The power supply provides a potential-free, low voltage of 24 VAC.
If the power supply is installed outside the turnstile housing, then, for reasons of interference
resistance (EMC) as well as secure data transmission, shielded lines (so-called "SYSTEM
CABLES") should be used.

Logiturn® II
Installation Manual

1.1.3 Protective grounding

If the power supply is located inside the turnstile housing, or another consumer with 230 V~
supply voltage is located inside or in the immediate vicinity of the turnstile housing, then
grounding the turnstile housing is required for safety reasons (contact voltage).
The metal housing of the turnstile should be connected to the ground circuit connector (PE)
by means of an appropriately designed grounding cable.
Indoors, the ground wire (yellow green) included with the supply wiring, with a minimum
cross section of 1.5 mm², is sufficient.
If the turnstile housing is to be set up outside, it should always be connected to a potential
equalization (lightning protection) with a minimum cross section of 6 mm².
Respective national regulations must always be followed regarding this measure.
The ground of the control board is connected with high-resistance (500 k) to the gear unit
and thus to the ground potential.

1.2.1 Connecting operating devices

Up to two Logiturn turnstiles can be connected to one control panel via the RS-485 data bus
line or they can be controlled via a PC using the "Mini-GTC" software package and a
converter. To do this, the data lines RXT+ and RXT- of all devices must be connected
together. In addition, please also ensure that the potentials of the grounding points of all
devices do not exceed a voltage difference of 50V.
We recommend that all devices in one data communications group be supplied by one
power supply unit.
The shield connections of the devices should be connected to one another via the shield
drain wire of the system cable.
The connected turnstile control units must each be assigned a unique device ID (see 2.3.1).

1.2.2 Connecting a "Mini-GTC" software control panel

The software control panel is basically any regular PC/laptop that has the "Mini-GTC"
software package installed.
The PC is connected via an interface converter to the turnstile control unit. The connection
must be made via the RS-485 data interface. There are two converters for this: the RS-232
(V24) or the USB input.
The RS-232 or the USB connection cable between the PC and the converter should not be
longer than 5 m. The other connection from the converter to the turnstile control unit is
made via the RS-485 data line (2P811).
The RS-232(V24) converter requires its own power supply of 24VDC. The USB converter
is powered via the USB side.

Software package: "Mini-GTC"

1.2.3 Connecting control panel hardware:

The control panel is also powered by the 24 V~ low DC voltage generated by the power
supply unit.
The connection cable must be shielded following EMC guidelines.

2 Control unit
2.1 Connection options
Logiturn turnstiles offer simple connection options for card readers, coin accepters as well
as other electronic devices (buttons, key switches, etc.) to access the turnstile.
The four signal inputs are used to integrate safety technology (e.g. fire protection systems).
This enables the turnstile to open when an alarm is triggered.
There are two relay outputs and two transistor outputs for feedback signals (e.g. for release
lights or access counters) as well as one data interface for connecting to the building control
system.

2.1.1 Release connections (card reader, autopay machine, etc.)

Four signal inputs (B, C, E and F) are available for setting releases and one signal input (G)
is available for deleting the release.
All signal inputs are bi-directional, optical coupler inputs. They are lead through with both
LED connections. The inputs B+C and E+F+G are grouped together and can be controlled
potential-free.

Signal inputs block diagram

The switching voltage of the optical coupler has a range of 12V…24V
An internal system voltage of 24VDC is available for the terminal block. This has a max.
load of 800mA.
You can specify the function of the individual signal inputs via parameter entries: (see
parameters 20 to 24).
Some functions require an explicit pulse signal (it only uses the the rising edge).

Logiturn® II
Installation Manual

Peripheral device with potential-free outputs

If the peripheral device has potential-free outputs (e.g., relay or optical coupler outputs), the
COM BC and/or COM EFG terminal must be connected to the ground potential (GND) of
the control unit.
Inputs B and C and E, F and G have separate COM connections available.

Peripheral device with PNP output Peripheral device with NPN output
If the peripheral device does not have any potential-free outputs (e.g. an available signal
voltage or semiconductor switch), then, depending on the type of the output stage, the COM
terminal must be connected to the GND or operating voltage of the reader.
Because of the separated reference potential (COM BC and COM EFG), it is possible to
connect two groups of independently powered peripheral devices to the turnstile control
unit.

2.1.2 Connecting a fire alarm system

Four signal inputs (B, C, E and F) are available for connecting a security system (fire alarm
system, escape route terminal, emergency escape button, etc.). This can be triggered by both
a closer as well as a break contact.

2.1.4 Feedback, counter, error, alarm

There are three transistor outputs on the control board (OUT A, Alarm and Alarm/EM).
They are used for the direct control of electro-mechanical counters and/or electro-acoustical
signal generators.

The output voltage is 24VDC. The output has a max. load of 250mA.

Transistor outputs block diagram

When an error occurs in the turnstile, the AMP1 and AMP2 relays are triggered in a 1
second flashing cycle. They flash when release signal lights are connected.

Peripheral device with potential-free feedback input

By setting the right parameters, relays AMP1 and AMP2 can also be used for feedback
signals to card readers.

These are controlled under parameters 30 – 33.

RM4 can also be wired to a potential-free alarm output via DIP switch 8.
The expansion board is available with four relay contacts or with four optical couplers. In
addition, each expansion board also contains a charge regulator for an emergency power
supply.

2.2 Parameter settings

The Logiturn turnstile control unit and the control panels can be adapted to many component
configurations, operating modes and operating conditions using parameters.
Parameters are saved to EEPROM (non-volatile storage).
Parameters can either be set from the hardware control panel or from a PC via the "Mini-
GTC" program (software control panel). Access to the parameter menu is protected via a
code number (see special description of the hardware control panel or ask our service and
installation technicians).

2.2.1 Description
Input options: Min/Max specifies the input range for some parameters.
The Z column represents the tens digit and E the first digit of the two-digit input value.
The default function is usually selected with the tens digit number. The ones digit enables
you to set individual options.
Some options are only for specific default functions. These can be listed separately in the
tens digit using a dash.
The x entry is a placeholder for all available number combinations in this parameter.

2.3.1 [DIP 1...3] Turnstile ID

Each Logiturn turnstile connected to the control panel (CP) via a RS485 data line (currently
max. 2 turnstiles) must be assigned a unique ID. This ID is then entered in CP parameter 60.
As per BCD coding, the number is defined using the the first three DIP switches:

ID no. DIP1 DIP2 DIP3 Setting: ID1

0 off off off
1 on off off
2 off on off
3 on on off
4 off off on
5 on off on
6 off on on
7 on on on
!!! Important !!!
The same IDs may not be used more than once within a communication branch.
If this is set incorrectly, communication with the turnstile controller over the RS-485
interface is impossible.

2.3.2 [DIP 5] Toggle configuration OG/2-arm, 2-arm/3-arm

The 2-arm and OG turnstile configuration can be switched to the respective lower
configuration level.
With the switch setting ON, a 2-arm turnstile becomes a 3-arm turnstile; an Open Gate
turnstile becomes a 2-arm turnstile.
The turnstile restarts after any configuration change.
The turnstile arm need also be replaced when switching from a 2-arm to a 3-arm
turnstile.

2.3.3 [DIP 6] Direction of rotation

Many turnstile parameters apply to a predefined entry or exit direction. This direction
assignment can be made using DIP switch 6 according to the following diagram. The
definition of the entry and exit direction is usually determined with the entry into or exit
from an access-protected area.
With a mirror-image arrangement of the turnstiles (back to back or arm mechanisms facing
one another) a corresponding symmetrical behavior of the turnstiles can be achieved by
setting the parameters of the two turnstiles identically and setting DIP switch no. 6 opposite.

Direction of rotation settings for access to a Direction of rotation settings for a

protected area mirror-image arrangement
The direction definitions for entry and exit remain even if a turnstile is used only for one
traffic direction, e.g., one of the two turnstiles for the entry and the other for the exit of the
protected area.
When changing the direction of rotation, it must be noted that the contact inputs and
all feedback signals always refer to the actual entry or exit direction and thus must be
appropriately controlled.
This means that the right entry and exit direction for the location must be determined
and DIP switch no. 6 set accordingly.

2.3.4 [DIP 7] Test and initialization runs

The test and initialization runs are executed immediately after activating the turnstile. They
serve to test the function of all components and synchronize the incrementally working
measuring system to the position of the turning arms. If they are interrupted, the turnstile is
prevented from making any movements after switching on. This is desirable if, for example,
a new configuration or a new parameter set must be programmed in or tests performed. For
normal operation of the turnstile, DIP 7 must be activated ("On").

2.3.5 [DIP 8] RM4 = alarm

The feedback relay RM4 (on the expansion board) is synchronized with alarm output 1
when "On." The semiconductor output on the control board as well as the RM4 relay output
are both available for the alarm output.

3 Control panel
The control panel is used to operate the connected turnstile(s) and to display various
feedback signals on the two-part display and also on the function keys via LEDs.
It is also used to change parameters (changes can also be made via the "control panel PC
software").
Code numbers are required to access individual functions (menu, counter reset, etc.) for both
options. Functions are organized in hierarchical levels that are released depending on the
code number.
This enables you to assign operators with different access authorizations, e.g. for deleting
counter values or setting preset values.
For more information, please see the special instructions included with all hardware control
panels.

4.3 Procedure in case of error:

When an error occurs, the turnstile must be switched off and then back on after 15 seconds.
You can also press "RESET" on the operating device to restart. The turnstile then performs
the test (diagnostic) and initialization runs. Please note that the error message must be
evaluated by a visual check in any case. If the error message recurs, proceed according to
the following guidelines (see To-do ID from the error type list).
To-do REMEDIAL ACTION
A Drive defective, must be replaced.
B Repeat initialization run and ensure that the turnstile mechanism can
turn freely.
C General error message during operation. The results of the test run give
more detailed information as to the cause of the error.
D Check the gear belt and replace if necessary.
E Motor causing short circuit, replace drive motor
F The turning arms or gear mechanism is blocked. Switch off the turnstile
and turn the arms manually. If the mechanism is difficult to turn or
locks up, it must be replaced.
G Check the cable connection with the drive motor. If no problem is
found, replace the drive motor.
H Reverse motor cable polarity.
I Check cable connection to magnetic brake, replace drive motor with
magnetic brake if necessary.

6 Troubleshooting
Semiconductor outputs are not functioning: The PROFETs (transistors for counter outputs,
E-magnets) may be deactivated  Check connected devices and wires for short circuit or
overload (max. 0.25A). !

6.1 Problems at turnstile startup

Error messages or unexpected rotations occur during the diagnostic and test runs:
 Check whether the parameter set, particularly the configuration set up in the
parameter set, is correct for the device hardware. Controls can be operated only with
the associated mechanism. If that is not possible, the control must be replaced.
The arms do not remain in the expected zero position, or rotate too slowly or too quickly:
 As above.

6.2 Problems with communication

6.2.1 RS-485 interface

DK offline (turnstile does not respond):
 ID on DIP switch is set incorrectly
 ID on software or hardware control panel is set incorrectly
 Baud rate is set incorrectly
 COM port is set incorrectly
 RS-485 data line connections are reversed (cables must be properly connected to the
right terminals).
 Interface converter or control panel connected with 24 VAC voltage instead of the
data lines.  Correct wiring; the converter or control panel interface may already be
damaged.

6.2.2 Problems with the test runs

Motor test and endurance run are not functioning:
 Turnstile test mode has been canceled (e.g., with a reset). Press the "Read out service
data" button to turn it back on.
