SESSION GUIDE/PLAN FOR REGIONAL ECHO- TRAINING WORKSHOP


FOR GRADE 2 ARTS TRAINERS

Title: Teaching Art in Grade 2


Objectives: In this learning session, participants should be able to:
 provide knowledge and develop appreciation of the basic art elements, principles, and
concepts of art as seen in the different local art products, forms and processes.
 provide examples of different creative and integrative strategies for teaching art as it relates to
the theme of Grade 2 (My Neighbors and my Community)
 develop the teachers’ knowledge of basic art skills in using local materials for
 drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, crafts and mixed media.
 introduce local indigenous artists, and master artists and their works and appreciate their
contribution to the cultural life of the community.
Time Frame : 2 hours
Resources: LCD Projector, Screen, Laptop Unit, Pictures, Art Materials, Adhesive Tape
Overview
Arts or Sining is one of the vital components in the subject MAPEH in elementary level as part of the
K to12 Basic Education Curriculum. It addresses and ensures that learners are able to demonstrate an
understanding of basic processes in arts through appreciation, analysis and performance.
As front liners of the program delivery, they need to encourage creativity and sustain artistic interest
among their pupils. They should continuously gather first-hand information and enrich their learning
experiences in visual art and other forms of arts. Therefore, this session is designed for the participants
to enhance their teaching skills and gain ideas regarding methodology in teaching Arts as well as
familiarize the domains of Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE)

A. Activity (20 mins)


A. Mental Warm-up
B. Group Brainstorming
Within three minutes, be able to realize the task given to your group. Your group is given also three
minutes to show you group work creatively. All members of the group should participate in the
presentation
• Group I – Write a one stanza poem
• Group II – Compose a four-line jingle
• Group III – Draw and Tell
• Group IV – Short Skit/ Situation

B. Analysis (30 mins)


- How did you find the activities?

- What factors contributed to the enjoyment and interaction among the members of the
group (pupils)?

- What should be considered by the teacher to make the teaching and learning of art
successful? Why

C. Abstraction (1 hr)
Discuss the important features of the K to 12 Curriculum highlighting the following points:
Powerpoint Presentations:
1. Parts of the Teacher’s Guide and Learner’s Materials
2. Contents of Arts in Grade 2
3. How to Use the Curriculum Guide, Teacher’s Guide and Learner’s Material

D. Application (10 mins)


With the given competencies, develop a Teacher Guide/s and a Learner’s Materials that will suit to the
level of the pupils and availability of material.
Include the following:
