What do you think is the best way for a student to contribute to environmental policy
making?

Lesson 6.1: Environmental Policy


In the current situation, how can you contribute to the policy making concerning the
issues of the Philippine environment?

Even in this trying hard situation, we the young can be environmental


advocates, there are also opportunities to further educate Filipinos on what we’re
dealing with particularly in combating climate crisis and how it affects our daily lives.

Lesson 6.2: Major Environmental Laws


If given a chance to formulate a law regarding the Philippine environment, what
would it be and why?

If I given a chance to formulate a law regarding the Philippine environment,


that would be Philippine Youth Tree Planting Act. This would bring us awareness
that help to reforestation of our deforested mountain and this brings awareness to
the public and private schools all over the Philippines.

Lesson 6.3: International Environmental Policies


If given a chance to formulate an environmental law that would apply to the rest of
the countries, what would it be and why?

If I given a chance to formulate an environmental law that would apply to the


rest of the countries that would be International Environmental Monthly Awareness
Act, this would bring all the countries to action and combating the problems in our
world and that would simple act through plant, plant and plant action.

Lesson 6.4: What Can You Do?


Aside from participating in campus activities, in what another way can a student (like
you) contribute to environmental advocacy?

In a way that a student can participate in environmental advocacy, that would


be Your Trash, Your Responsibilities Awareness, this could be an opportunity to all

Lesson 6.5: The Challenges of Sustainable Development


As a student, how can a sustainable manner be applied in evaluating lifestyle?
Change your personal behaviours regarding your food, transportation, or
energy choices experiment with alternative solutions as part of your studies, work, or
free-time activities and join collective actions to change the economic, political and
cultural systems we live in.

Learning Task/Activity:
1. Discuss at least 5 international agreements.

The following are the international agreements, 1. International Health


Regulations (2005) The IHR (2005) are an international agreement between 194
States Parties and the World Health Organization to monitor, report on, and respond
to any events that could pose a threat to international public health. The purpose of
the IHR (2005) is to prevent, protect against, control and provide a public health
response to the international spread of disease in ways that are appropriate for and
restricted to public health risks, and which avoid unnecessary interference with
international traffic and trade. (International Health Regulations, Article 2). 2.
International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Exit Icon, IPPC is a treaty
concerned with preventing the introduction and spread of pests to plants and plant
products and currently has 177 government consignees. The IPPC has developed
phytosanitary guidelines and serves as a reporting center as well as an information
source. Seven regional phytosanitary organizations have been established under the
umbrella of IPPC. The North American Plant Protection Organization (NAPPO), for
example, consists of the US, Canada, and Mexico, who participate through APHIS,
the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), and the Plant Health Directorate,
respectively. The European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization
(EPPO) is an intergovernmental organization, also under the IPPC, which is
responsible for cooperation in plant protection among 50 countries in the European
and Mediterranean region. 3. Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI), is a global
effort that aims to stop trafficking of weapons of mass destruction, their delivery
systems, and related materials to and from States and non-State actors of
proliferation concern. Launched on May 31, 2003, U.S. involvement in the PSI stems
from the U.S. National Strategy to Combat Weapons of Mass Destruction issued in
December 2002. 4. Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and
Materials of Mass Destruction (GP) Exit Icon, since its launch by G-8 Leaders at
the June 2002 Kananaskis G-8 Summit, the Global Partnership has worked to
address nonproliferation, disarmament, counterterrorism, and nuclear safety issues
through cooperative projects in such areas as destruction of chemical weapons; the

of fissile materials; and rechanneling employment of former weapons scientists to
peaceful civilian endeavors. And 5. Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) Exit
Icon, the Chemical Weapons Convention prohibits the development, production,
acquisition, stockpiling, and transfer of chemical weapons, including some biological
toxins.
